Wiltshire Senior League
Season 1990-91

The season started on a sad note when Chairman, J R Nunn, who had held that post since the League was formed, passed away in September.  Dennis Kilford took over as Chairman for the remainder of the season.  Doug Perry from Corsham Town and I E Sumbler from Ferndale filled the vacant positions on the Management Committee.  Harry Beattie was made a Life Member for his many years’ service to the League.

The goals of the prolific Dave Coker fired Amesbury Town to their second Division One title, having last won the league back in Season 1979-80.  Amesbury finished four points clear of local rivals Shrewton United in second spot, with Aldbourne Park in third place. Trowbridge Town Reserves withdrew part way through the season. Amesbury did the league and cup “double” beating Sanford 3-1 in the final of the Addkey Senior Knockout Cup. There was also a triumph for the league in the prestigious Wiltshire Senior Cup with Pewsey Vale beating Hellenic League side Swindon Athletic 2-1 in the final at Chippenham Town.

Division Two saw a title battle between the two village sides from Wroughton and Biddestone with Wroughton eventually edging it by three points. Bromham joined Wroughton and Biddestone in being promoted to Division One for the following season.

Near neighbours Sunray Badbury and Chiseldon were involved in a close-run contest for the Division Three title with Badbury eventually coming out on top by two points. Such was the domination of the top two that third placed National Semiconductor were a further eight points behind Chiseldon. At the other end of the table Ferndale Athletic Reserves and Marlborough Town Reserves occupied the bottom two places but both were reprieved from relegation in the end. Sunray Badbury went on to do the double beating Salisbury Manor 2-1 in the final.
Division 4 winners were Ramsbury who finished four points clear of runners-up West Swindon, with Minety in third place.

At the end of season awards at the AGM Melksham Town Res won the E C Mills Sportsmanship Award, A L Wimble of Chippenham Town won the Club Secretary’s Award for the second time and  L A Perkins was presented with the Referees’ Appreciation Award.
