This week’s action in the Premier Division of the Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League got underway in midweek when the young Calne Town Reserves side entertained Malmesbury Victoria Development at Bremhill View under the floodlights. Whilst Malmesbury went close early on, hitting the post, that was as good as it got for the visitors as two first half goals and one after the break put Calne 3-0 up before Malmesbury were able to register a late consolation goal, Aaron Sanghera scoring from the penalty spot. Calne’s three goals were scored by Matthew Robinson, Charlie Strickland and Edward Summers. The win saw Calne consolidate their seventh-place position, moving level on points with Wroughton ahead of the weekend’s round of matches.

Saturdays round of games in the Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League saw the teams given the opportunity to pay their respects to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II following her sad passing with a minutes silence observed ahead of the games.

Calne Town Reserves were at home again on Saturday with Shrewton United the visitors. Shrewton went into the game still looking for their first win of the season whilst Calne were looking to build on that midweek win and stay in touch with the leading sides. In a storming first half showing the visitors Shrewton led 4-1 at the break, Taylor Jewell bagging a brace with further goals from Daniel Finnigan and Ben Jenks. Shrewton continued to push for more goals and could have easily put the game beyond their hosts if the chances that came their way had been taken. However, they were nearly made to pay for their profligacy in front of goal when Calne pulled two goals back to make it 4-3 but there was to be no further scoring as Shrewton saw out the closing stages without conceding any more to secure that first win under manager Jesse Walters. Calne Town Reserves goals came from Caleb Hollow, another for Edward Summers following that one in midweek and a third of the season from Kian Fulford.

The top two Trowbridge Town and Devizes Town were both at home with Salisbury FC Development and Frome Collegians their respective visitors. Salisbury FC Development have been struggling for players in recent weeks and were only able to raise nine players for their visit to league leaders Trowbridge Town. Credit to the nine players who put up a spirited performance despite the numerical disadvantage against a side who had won all seven of their games prior to today’s fixture. That record now extends to eight straight wins as Trowbridge put eight goals past their young opponents for their biggest win of the season. Leading scorer Scott Baker led the way hitting another hat-trick to move him onto 13 for the season, two more also for Ben Wickens who is just two behind the Division’s leading scorer, with other three goals coming from Tom Mack, Jordan Pinder and Ryan Baggs.

Devizes Town also recorded their biggest win of the season as they continue to stay on the heels of Trowbridge Town. They were up against a Frome Collegians side whose only defeat of the season prior to today’s game had come in their last outing away at league leaders Trowbridge Town. Devizes best performance of the season saw them put six unanswered goals past Ben Forester in the Frome goal, the closest Frome coming to scoring was when they had a penalty with the score at 4-0, but James Hounsell saw his penalty saved by the Devizes keeper. The Devizes goals were shared around the team with goals from Gabe Costello, Jack Baker, Jack Hopper, Jamie Walters, Jordan Kirk and Kameran Muhid.

There were three draws in the division this weekend and it is no surprise that one of them involved the division’s draw specialists Blunsdon. Their game at Pewsey Vale kicked off early at 1PM due to the Pewsey Carnival and it saw both defences come out on top as, for the second consecutive game Blunsdon, were involved in a 0-0 draw. For Blunsdon that is now five drawn games in their eight fixtures to date.

It was also 0-0 in the game involving the side who started the day in third spot in the table, Kintbury Rangers and bottom of the table Royal Wootton Bassett Town Development. Royal Wootton Bassett Town Development had picked up their first point of the season away at Shrewton United in their last outing and made it two games unbeaten with another good performance on the road. Both teams had chances to take all three points but in the end had to settle for a point apiece.
There was another tight game at the Oakfield Stadium, Melksham where Melksham Town Reserves visitors were Wroughton. In a scrappy game the points went the way of visitors Wroughton thanks to a solitary goal from their leading scorer Jonathan Peachey-Score on 25 minutes, Peachey-Score taking his total for the season to eleven. Wroughton created plenty of further chances but were not able to add to their tally and denied the home side at the other end to secure the three points and move up into third spot in the league table behind Trowbridge Town and Devizes Town.

It was also a tight game at the Lew Hill Memorial Ground in the game between Odd Down (Bath) Development and Marlborough Town. The game was marred by an injury suffered by Marlborough Town player Aaron Presley who was injured in a 50:50 challenge early on and had to be taken to hospital with a suspected broken leg, having only recently returned from another serious leg injury. All at the Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League wish Aaron a speedy recovery from this latest setback. The game was delayed for 20 minutes whilst he received treatment and was taken to hospital. When play resumed Odd Down took the lead in the first half but were pegged back before half time by a Kieran Maidment header to make it 1-1. There were no further goals in the second half which saw Odd Down have two players dismissed for dissent. Marlborough were unable to make the extra men count and Odd Down held out for a share of the spoils as it finished all square at 1-1.

After their midweek defeat at Calne Town Reserves, Malmesbury Victoria Development were looking to get back to winning ways when they entertained Stratton Juniors. Juniors had been beaten 9-2 on their last visit to the Flying Monk and were looking for a much better performance on their return to Malmesbury. It started well for them, Imman Baines putting them one up within a minute of the start. However, Malmesbury were back on level terms five minutes later Matthew Jones seeing his free kick deflected into the Stratton net. The same player then put his side ahead for the first time in the game scoring from the penalty spot for 2-1. Jones then completed a first half hat-trick firing in to give Malmesbury a 3-1 lead at half time. Second half saw Stratton introduce Moses Naisarani as a substitute and he started to cause Malmesbury problems with his pace as Stratton sought to find him with long balls out of defence. Unfortunately the visitors were unable to turn the pressure on the Malmesbury defence into goals and the game was put beyond them when a foul on Sam Brown in the box saw Jones convert a second penalty of the game for his fourth goal of the game and a final score line of 4-1 to the home side.
There were two games played in Division One and they resulted in ten goals. Seven of those goals came at Kingsdown School on the 3G where Kingsdown Lions edged out Kintbury Rangers Development by the odd goal in seven. Veteran Lee Curtis put the home side one nil up with a neat finish on 15 minutes and Jordan Lea then doubled the score three minutes later. Lloyd Pondsford pulled one back for visitors Kintbury before half-time and the teams turned round with Kingsdown holding just a single goal advantage. Kingsdown quickly doubled their advantage at the start of the second half, Ethan Lee scoring his first of the season within three minutes of the restart. Jordan Lea then extended his sides lead just before the hour mark with his second of the game to make it 4-1. Kingsdown had further chances to extend their lead but failed to put them away and then allowed their visitors back in the game in the closing stages. Connor Markou scored to make it 4-2 and then in the final minutes Kintbury were awarded a penalty for a push in the box which Lloyd Pondsford duly despatched for his second of the game to make it 4-3. Kingsdown then survived some anxious moments in the closing stages but held out to take all three points and move second in the table behind leaders Ludgershall Sports. A first defeat of the season for Kinbury Rangers Development who also saw their manager sent from the dugout.
League leaders Ludgershall Sports were at home to Pewsey Vale Development and secured a comfortable 3-0 win over their near neighbours. Nathan Strong set them on their way with the opener before leader scorer Luke Holden doubled their lead. A third from Ben Wyatt made sure of the points as Ludgershall opened up a four point lead at the top of the table.
