Perfect Ten For Trowbridge Town,
Wroughton, Kintbury & Pewsey
All Win To Stay in Touch

Trowbridge Town who made it 10 wins in 10 games with a 9-0 win over Shrewton United

Trowbridge Town went into their game against Shrewton United having won all of their nine fixtures so far this season. Having won eleven and drawn one of their last twelve games last season the unbeaten run-in fact stretched to 21 games. Shrewton United came into the game on a decent run of their own having won their last two games and being unbeaten in their last four ahead of today’s encounter. However, it was to be a bad day at the office for Shrewton as Trowbridge made it a perfect ten with a resounding 9-0 win. It was a close affair in the opening 20 minutes, but Trowbridge got their noses in front with a goal from leading scorer Scott Baker. Having missed a one-on-one moments earlier, Baker made amends on 13 minutes firing in a low shot past the Shrewton keeper. The league leaders doubled that lead on 23 minutes. A ball into the box from a corner saw Liam Watson react the quickest to get on the end of cross and steer it in for 2-0. After this goal went in, having been a tight well contested affair up to this point, it very much became one-way traffic after the second goal and three further goals in the final five minutes of the half saw Trowbridge with a comfortable 5-0 half time lead. The third was scored by Ben Wickens with a powerful shot into the bottom corner of the net on 41 minutes. Wickens then added his second of the game two minutes later after being found with a pass from Scott Baker for 4-0. Jordan Pinder then got in on the goal scoring act in injury time at the end of the half, powerfully heading in at the far post for that 5-0 half-time lead. The start of the second half saw the goals momentarily dry up but Wickens completed his hat-trick on the hour mark with a header for 6-0. Shrewton’s cause was then not helped by having a player sent off and Wickens added his fourth of the game 17 minutes from time, shooting in after George Bendle’s shot came back off the crossbar. There was still time for two more goals, and both went the way of Bendle, the first a powerful volley in the net and the second a low shot past the Shrewton keeper to give his side an emphatic 9-0 win, their biggest win of the season so far. Next up for Trowbridge is a trip to struggling Melksham Town Reserves whilst Shrewton United will look to bounce back from this heavy defeat when they entertain Stratton Juniors.

With Devizes Town without a game, Wroughton had the opportunity to close the gap to the second placed side and took full advantage of that opportunity against Calne Town Reserves although manager Ben Jarrett acknowledged his side were not at their best this afternoon. They went 1-0 to the good after the Calne's keeper spilled a shot allowing Luke Saunders a simple tap in. Calne Town’s leading scorer Edward Summers brought his side back on level terms, but Wroughton went into the half time break 2-1 ahead when their leading scorer Jonathan Peachey-Score netted for his 13th of the season. After the restart Calne came back again at the home side and got themselves back on level terms from the penalty spot, youngster Caleb Hollow firing in the spot kick to make it 2-2. The trend of Wroughton going in front and then being pegged back by Calne was to repeat itself one more time. David Harmer scored to put Wroughton 3-2 up but Kane Kaupinnen this time equalised for Calne Town Reserves. However, a second of the game from both Peachey-Score and Harmer ensured Wroughton did enough to take all three points and their fourth straight win to move within five points of Devizes Town. Next week they take a break from league action when they play Blunsdon in the First Round of the Wiltshire Senior Cup, whilst Calne will look to end a run of three straight defeats when they entertain Odd Down Development at Bremhill View.

Kintbury Rangers joined Wroughton on 20 points with a 3-0 win over struggling Melksham Town Reserves. First half goals from Kian Alexander-Baker and Owain Wheeler gave Kintbury a 2-0 half time lead. Theo Pennicott-Bowen made sure of the points with the third of the game and his third of the season as Melksham’s poor record at the Recreation Ground continued. That is now three straight defeats on their three league visits to Kintbury for Melksham. There will be a real test of Kintbury’s top three prospects next week when second in the table Devizes Town come to the Recreation Ground looking to complete a league double over Kintbury having secured a narrow 2-1 win at the back end of August.

Pewsey Vale also stayed in touch with the sides above them with a comfortable away win over Salisbury FC Development. Darren Tapper’s side's win could have been even bigger but for the efforts of Salisbury keeper Dan McCarthy who twice saved penalties from the visitors. Wayne House put the visitors 1-0 up, with Max Vines then doubling their lead before the award of the first penalty. Connor Marsden took the spot kick but saw his effort saved by McCarthy with his feet. Captain Liam Edmonsdon then scored twice for the visitors doubling his total for the campaign in the process before the award of the second penalty. This time the spot kick was taken by Wayne House who had been fouled for the award of the penalty, but his spot kick was at a nice height for keeper McCarthy who once again pulled off the save. Pewsey rounded-off a good afternoon’s work with a fifth goal from James Salkead as they stayed within a point of Wroughton and Kintbury Rangers. Next up for Pewsey Vale is a home game against Frome Collegians whilst Salisbury travel to play last season’s champions Royal Wootton Bassett Town Development.

Whilst Blunsdon had made a decent start to life in the Premier Division of the Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League they went into their game with Marlborough Town having gone seven games since their one and only win. They finally brought that run to an end with what in the end was a comfortable 6-2 win although it was certainly a close match in the first forty-five minutes. Last season’s leading scorer Lee Toomey set Blunsdon on their way, heading over the keeper into the net after a number of his colleagues had spurned the opportunity to score. Marlborough Town got themselves back into the game from the penalty spot, Luke Little putting the spot kick away. Toomey restored Blunsdon’s lead with his second of the game before Eliot Wheatley made it 3-1 to the home side, scoring with one of his trademark free-kicks for his fourth goal of the campaign so far. Marlborough pulled one back before the break through Harry Gibson to make it 3-2 to Blunsdon at half time. The second half, however, very much belonged to Blunsdon. Lee Toomey completed his hat-trick to make it 4-2 and it was the perfect hat-trick as the Blunsdon striker scored one with his left foot, one with his right foot and one with his head. Danny Hale added a fifth with a header at the back post before getting his second of the game with a tap in at the back post to complete what in the end was a resounding win for the home side. The win saw them climb a couple of places in the table to seventh spot.
After a tough start to the season Royal Wootton Bassett Town Development have certainly found their form in recent weeks and returned from Odd Down today with all three points and their third consecutive clean sheet following a 5-0 win over Odd Down Development. Manuel Mesas bagged a brace and there were further goals from Kevin Lartey, Bruno Martins and Ben Spackman. That is now four games unbeaten for Mark Simpkins young side ahead of next week’s encounter with Salisbury FC Development.

There were two games in Division One with the top match being league leaders Ludgershall Sports trip into Swindon to play Kingsdown Lions. It turned out to be a disappointing day for the leaders as they fell to their second and biggest defeat of the season going down 4-0 against a well organised Kingsdown side. The damage was done in the first half as Kingsdown scored three unanswered goals and it could have been a lot more. Josh Barnfield scored the first two goals and a third from Aidan Miller meant Kingsdown went into the half time break three goals to the good. Whilst the goals dried up in the second half Kingsdown made sure they did not concede at the other end, and they made sure of points ten minutes from time when veteran Lee Curtis scored with his first touch of the game after coming on as a substitute to make the final score 4-0. Next up for Kingsdown is a Wiltshire Junior Cup tie next week against Swindon & District League side Shield & Dagger. The win saw Kingsdown move up into third spot in the table, four points behind leaders Ludgershall with two games in hand.

The other game was at Pewsey where Pewsey Vale Development side were up against the Development side from Kintbury Rangers. When the two sides had met earlier in the season at Kintbury, Rangers had edged a tight game 2-1 and goals from Tom Holdstock and player-manager Kierron Kiff ensured Pewsey avenged that earlier defeat with a 2-0 win. The win for Pewsey saw them move up to second place in the table just three points behind leaders Ludgershall Sports and with a game in hand.
It was a day of mixed fortunes for our sides in the Somerset Senior Cup. Joining Odd Down Development, who won 4-1 in their game against AFC Whitchurch last month, in the next round are Larkhall Athletic Development who defeated a strong Wincanton Town Reserves side 3-0. Captain Charlie Saunders set them on their way with the first goal, firing in after the ball had rebounded to him. The same player made it 2-0 from the penalty spot after Ben Riccio, who was running the show in midfield for Larkhall was brought down in the box on 65 minutes. Larkhall then made sure of progress into the next round ten minutes later, Finn Norris lobbing the keeper from a Jack Kelsey through ball.

Unfortunately, our other side from Somerset, Frome Collegians, exited the competition, going down 4-2 at home to Hengrove Athletic Reserves, Max Biddiscombe with both Frome goals. After a promising start to the season that had seen them unbeaten in their first five games, winning four of them, that is now four straight defeats for the Collegians who have another tough looking game next week with that away trip to Pewsey Vale.
