Top Two in Premier Made
To Work Hard To
Maintain Winning Runs
The top two teams in the Premier Division both were made to work hard to maintain their unbeaten records this afternoon, but both dug deep to record yet another win in what is already turning into a ‘two-horse race’ for the title. League leaders Trowbridge Town were away to a struggling Melksham Town Reserves, but Melksham belied their lowly position in the table to push the leaders all the way. In front thanks to a penalty from Adam Mitchell against his former club, Melksham gave Trowbridge a real scare and it was only in the final 20 minutes of the game that Trowbridge got themselves back into the game and then made sure of all three points thanks to a hat-trick from leading scorer Ben Wickens who moved onto 18 goals for the season and remains the division’s top scorer.

Devizes Town were also given a scare away to Kintbury Rangers who started the day in fourth place. Goals from Bradley Passey and Jamie Wallin gave Kintbury a 2-0 half time lead, but it was a different story after the break as Devizes got themselves back into the game and then went on score a winner to run out 3-2 winners. Two goals for Jack Coward and one from new signing Rhys Talmash ensured Devizes maintained their unbeaten record and meant they did not lose further ground to the league leaders, remaining five points behind Trowbridge but with a game in hand. Kintbury dropped one place in the table to fifth as a result of the defeat.

Pewsey Vale climbed a couple of places in the table into third spot with a convincing 4-0 home win over Frome Collegians. Star of the show was Andy Rossiter who fired a hat-trick to take his tally for the season to five and a further goal from Haydn Amor completed a good afternoon’s work for Darren Tapper’s side. Pewsey also kept their fourth consecutive clean sheet in securing a seventh league win of the season that sees them remain six points behind Devizes.  For Frome Collegians that is now five straight defeats and they will be hoping to end that dismal run when they visit Salisbury FC Development next week.

Wroughton who had started the day in third place were taking a break from league action and were up against Blunsdon in the Wiltshire Senior Cup. Wroughton had beaten Blunsdon 3-1 in the league at Sutton Park back in August and they completed an early league and cup double over their opponents as they hit four unanswered goals to progress to Round 2 of the prestigious County Cup competition. Leading scorer Jonathan Peachey-Score bagged a hat-trick to take his tally for the season to 17, one behind Ben Wickens. The fourth Wroughton goal was scored by Fraser Little.

Calne Town Reserves went into their game with Odd Down (Bath) Development having lost three on the trot, but they returned to winning ways with a convincing 4-0 win. Josh Bright led the way bagging a brace with further goals from Brett Fairclough and Ryan Flynn. The win saw Calne climb a couple of places in the table into sixth spot.

Also moving up a couple of places in the table into ninth spot are Stratton Juniors who came away from Shrewton Recreation Ground with all three points for the second consecutive season thanks to a 4-2 win. The goals were shared around with one apiece for Ryan Cooper, Corey Cullen, Steven Keir and Chirac Bogden, Charlie Utterson and Lee Weeks replying for the home side Shrewton United.

Malmesbury Victoria Development also moved up two places in the table to tenth spot courtesy of a 3-1 home win over manager-less Marlborough Town who had their Development manager in charge for the afternoon. Malmesbury led 2-0 at the break thanks to goals from James Archer and Joe Tranter but Marlborough pulled one back in the second half from the penalty spot through Luke Little. Malmesbury then thought they should have a penalty of their own but this time the claims were waived away by the referee, and it remained just the one goal in it until five minutes from time. Malmesbury made sure of the three points when 17-year-old Ollie Leonard scored his first goal in senior football, firing in after Gareth Jones shot came back off a post to make it 3-1 to the home side.

The final game in the Premier Division was at the Sustain Stadium at the Gerard Buxton Sports Ground where much improved Royal Wootton Bassett Town Development were hoping to maintain their recent good form that had seen them unbeaten in their last four and maintaining a clean sheet in each of their last three games. Today's visitors were Salisbury FC Development. Both games between the sides last season had been tight affairs and this one was no different. On an afternoon that saw defences on top the home side were able to extend both records but were unable to find the net at the other end as the two sides shared the points following a 0-0 draw.
There were three games in Division One and league leaders Ludgershall Sports bounced back from last week’s defeat at the hands of Kingsdown Lions to extend their lead at the top of the table to six points after a convincing 6-1 win over bottom of the table Purton. The goals were shared around the side. Aaron Joseph set them on their way with the opener after good work from Marcus Read. Adam Campbell then doubled their lead heading in from a Luke Holden cross. Purton then pulled one back and once again it was Harrison Bennett the scorer, Bennett having scored all of Purton’s goals so far this season. Gavin Richards restored Ludgershall’ two goal advantage before Marcus Read got himself on the score sheet, Luke Holden once again the provider. Further goals from Ben Wyatt and Jordan White completed a second big win of the season over Purton for Ludegrshall.

The reason Ludgershall were able to extend their lead at the top of the table was due to second placed Pewsey Vale Development falling to a 3-1 defeat away at Larkhall Athletic Development. In a close game between two in-form teams goals from Angus Williamson, captain Charlie Saunders and Marley Carpenter secured the win for Larkhall, Jay Roden with the consolation goal for Pewsey. The win saw Larkhall retain their 100% winning start to the season as they look to play catch up with the top three over whom they have two, four and five games in hand respectively.

Devizes Town Reserves were playing their first home game of the season hoping to move back up into the top three but in the end had to settle for a point following a 1-1 draw with Kintbury Rangers Development with both goals coming in the first half, Dan Chamberlain with the Kintbury goal and Tyler Smith replying for Devizes with his fifth goal of the season. Devizes had keeper Thomas North to thank for ensuring a share of the spoils the keeper pulling off a fine save to deny Kintbury a winner right at the end of the game.

Kingsdown Lions were in Wiltshire Junior Cup action but their game with Shield & Dagger was abandoned with the score at 1-1.
