 Devizes Close In,
Wroughton Into
Semi Final Of WSC
First of all, before going into the round-up of the action today in the Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League, huge congratulations from all at the Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League to Chippenham Town on their historic win over Lincoln City in the FA Cup today.

Turning to today's action, with Premier Division leaders Trowbridge Town supposedly in Fountain Trophies Cup action, Devizes Town had the chance to close the gap at the top of the table. Unfortunately, Trowbridge’s cup game did not take place in the end, as scheduled opponents Kintbury Rangers Development were unable to raise a side, and Trowbridge were left kicking their heels without a game. Devizes made the short journey to near neighbours Calne Town Reserves with many in both the management and playing squads of the two teams having been with their opponent last season, adding extra intrigue to the local derby. After losing last week against Trowbridge, Calne Town Reserves were keen to put in a better performance against the other of the two title challengers and the young Calne side certainly did that pushing Devizes all the way. In the end a solitary goal from Devizes Town’s leading scorer Derek Wheeler was all that separated the two sides, the win seeing Devizes close in to within two points of the leaders. The only blemish on the afternoon was a couple of bad injuries picked up by Devizes players Jack Hopper and Jack Coward. All at the Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League wish both players a speedy recovery. Devizes are back in action on Tuesday night when they travel to Downton in the Quarter Final of the Wiltshire Senior Cup looking to give the Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League a second team in the semi-final of the Wiltshire FA’s most prestigious competition.
Third place Kintbury Rangers were also looking to close the gap to the league leaders and it started well in their game against Blunsdon, a goal from leading scorer Aidan Maycock, with his seventh of the season, seeing them lead 1-0 at the break. However, Blunsdon were back on level terms early in the second half, Nick Craft getting on the end of an Eliot Wheatley free kick to make it 1-1. It remained that way until three minutes from time when Harry Bailey restored Kintbury’s lead with what looked like it would be the winning goal. However, Blunsdon had other ideas and with just about the last touch of the game Jack Hargreaves headed in from a Calum Courtney free-kick to ensure the points were shared. It was no more than Blunsdon deserved with both teams commenting after the game that the draw was the right result in what had been an even contest between the two sides. For Blunsdon, who remained in sixth place in the table,  that is now six draws in their opening 14 games and with just three defeats so far in those 14 games they have certainly adapted well to their first season of Senior football.
Fourth placed Wroughton and fifth placed Pewsey Vale were up against each other at the Weir Field in the quarter final of the Wiltshire FA’s Senior Cup. When the two sides had met recently in the league it had finished all square with one goal apiece and another close encounter was anticipated between two sides who were separated by a single point as well as that one place in the table. Wroughton went in front on 20 minutes, and it was the usual source of goals this season with the opener, Jonathan Peachey-Score getting on the end of a Sam Long cross from the wing, firing into the top corner to make it 1-0. There were to be no more goals in that first half and the teams turned round with it all still to play for. Wroughton gave themselves breathing space in the game when they extended their lead on the hour mark, Peachey-Score going from scorer to provider, setting up Luke Saunders for his fourth goal of the season. Wroughton continued to dominate the half and any chance Pewsey had of getting back into the match was ended 20 minutes from time when Peachey-Score scored his second of the game to make it 3-0 to Wroughton and taking his total for the season to 22. So it is Wroughton who progress to the semi-final which is scheduled for March next year and they now await to see who else will join them in the draw with the other three games set to be played on Tuesday night, including that trip to Downton for Devizes Town.

Two teams moved up a place in the league table this weekend, the first being Royal Wootton Bassett Town Development who climbed to seventh place. They went into their game at Stratton Juniors on the back of an eight game unbeaten run and that run was extended to nine games as they returned from Swindon with all three points courtesy of a 2-0 win in difficult conditions at Merton Fields. The 2-0 score was a repeat of the result when the two sides had met at the Sustain Stadium back in September. Star of the show was youngster Kevin Lartey who scored two excellent first half goals. The first saw Lartey pick up the ball on the half way line and then proceed to dribble past a whole host of Stratton players to reach the edge of the 18-yard box and then fire in at the near post to make it 1-0. He then made it 2-0 ten minutes from half time, firing in from a similar spot to the first goal although there was no mazy dribble on this occasion. Lartey could well have completed his hat-trick late on in the game but in the end he had to settle for the two goals and his side extending that unbeaten run with their seventh clean sheet in their last eight games.

The other side moving up a place in the table are Frome Collegians who were 4-1 winners at home against Shrewton United to move up to eighth spot. The win was largely thanks to a hat-trick from Jack Newman who had gone five games without a goal before this afternoon's encounter. The hat-trick took his tally for the season to eight, the other Frome goal coming through George Holland who notched for the second week running.

The final game of the weekend that was played in the Premier Division was at Elcot Lane where Marlborough Town’s visitors were Melksham Town Reserves. After a torrid run of ten straight defeats Craig Kent's side had finally ended the run of defeats last week with a 2-2 draw at home to Malmesbury Vics Development. They travelled to Marlborough in the knowledge that their record against Marlborough was a good one with eight wins in the previous 14 league meetings with just two for Marlborough. However, the two sides had drawn both games last season 2-2 and whilst there was a different score line in the first meeting this season it was once again honours even as they shared the points following a 1-1 draw, Tom Dowell with the Melksham Town Reserves goal and Luke Little netting for Marlborough with his fifth of the season.

The other scheduled game in the Premier Division between Malmesbury Vics Development and Salisbury Development was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch at The Flying Monk Ground.
Odd Down Development were in County Cup action playing away to Somerset County League Division One side Saltford. In a tight contest with plenty of goals it needed penalties in the end to settle matters after it finished 3-3 at the end of ninety minutes, the Odd Down goals coming through Perez Nedale (2) and new signing Khaled Harwood on his debut. It was the Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League side who emerged victorious, progressing through to the last 16 courtesy of a 5-4 win in the spot kick contest.

Unfortunately, they will not be joined by our Division One side Larkhall Athletic Development who were not at their best this afternoon, going down 3-0 to another Somerset County League Division One side Ashton & Backwell United Reserves.
Two other Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League sides were also in County Cup action with both Purton and Ludgershall Sports playing in the Wiltshire Junior Cup with mixed results for the two sides from our league. Purton’s difficult season continued as they were beaten 4-0 by Swindon & District League Premier Division side Nationwide. However, there is one side from the league through to the next round with Ludgershall Sports having a comfortable 8-0 away win over Trowbridge & District League side Staverton Rangers. Aaron Joseph led the way helping himself to four goals, Thomas-James Finn bagged a brace and there were further goals from Luke Holden and Keir Doherty to round off a good afternoon for the Division 1 league leaders who retained their interest in the County Cup alongside their attempt to get promoted back to the Premier Division.

With all the County Cup games there was just the one game in Division One this week and it saw Devizes Town Reserves close the gap to the top three with a narrow 2-0 win over Pewsey Vale Development, the two goals coming through Ben Tylee and leadings scorer Tyler Smith.
