 Chasing Pack Close In,
Tigers Secure First Win

Last season's cup winners, Cricklade Town, who moved to within 3 points of Redhouse with a 2-1 win over Swindon Rovers

The wet weather this week meant just two games were played in each of the Veterans’ Divisions and in both divisions, with the divisional leaders inactive, it gave the chasing pack the chance to close the gap at the top.
In the North Wiltshire Division on Tuesday night, Cricklade Town completed a quickfire double over Swindon Rovers, the two sides having brought forward a fixture and secured the use of a ground the previous week. A solitary goal had decided the first fixture between the two sides, and it was another tight contest in the return at New College on Tuesday. In the end goals from Mike Solan and Phil Corcoran were enough to give Cricklade the points following a 2-1 win. The victory saw them move to within three points of leaders Redhouse and they still have a game in hand.

Whilst Tuesday night was a close contest this was not the case on Wednesday when Royal Wootton Bassett Town recorded their biggest win of the season, putting seven unanswered goals past AFC Swindon who were not at their best on the night. Two goals for both Chris Head and Steve Howse plus one each for Brady Lilley, Nick Mason and a fifth of the season for Jeremy Newton. The win for Royal Wootton Bassett Town saw them move up to fourth spot, six points behind Cricklade with two games in hand and nine points behind Redhouse with three games in hand on the leaders.

The action in the Mid Wiltshire Division started on Monday night with a game at the bottom end of the table between Trowbridge Town Tigers and Amesbury Junior Badgers. The Tigers went into the game still looking for their first win of the season, but they have brought that unwelcome record to an end with a 10-1 mauling of the Badgers. There were hat-tricks for both Clifford Sakyi and Phil Lewis plus further goals from Lee Ritson, Kieran Prince, Nick Rose and Stu Mclachlan, Andreas Francis with the consolation goal for Amesbury Junior Badgers ten minutes from time. The win saw Trowbridge climb two places in the table above both their beaten opponents and Radstock Town.

The following night Devizes Town went into their game against Radstock Town knowing that if they recorded a win and scored sufficient goals, they could climb five places in the table to takeover second spot. They indeed scored the requisite number of goals, two from both Rhys Schell and Jamie Mullings plus one from Stephen Campbell in a 5-0 win seeing them move into that second spot, five points behind leaders Melksham Town but with two games in hand.
