Big Win For Bishops Cannings
in County Youth Cup

Nine of the ten teams in the Under 18 Division were in action in the second week of fixtures in the Under 18 Division of the Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League.

The round of fixtures kicked off on Monday night with the game at Kintbury Recreation Ground where Melksham Town were Kintbury Rangers visitors for their first ever game at Under 18 level in the league. It was a close contest between the two sides with Kintbury edging it by the odd goal in three despite being reduced to ten men. On target for the home side Kintbury were Jake Cooper and Alan Hewitt, Harry Messenger with the Melksham goal.

Thursday night saw three games played with the game of the night being at Trowbridge Road, Bradford-on-Avon where the home side Bradford Town and visitors Kingsdown Lions shared six goals and the points. Both sides had lost ther opening games and no doubt both would have been happy with the point to get their season up and running. Iwan Legg scored twice for Bradford Town, Luke Masero with their other goal whilst Josh Atwell, Ethan Lee and Tommy Hellewell replied for Kingsdown, the latter scoring for the second consecutive week.

Last season’s runners-up Royal Wootton Bassett Town had seen their title hopes ended on their last visit to Bremhill View last season and must have been concerned that Calne Town would once again get the better of them as they trailed 1-0 at the break to an Asher Jones goal, with the home side very much on top in the first half. It was a different story after the break as the visitors went in search of an equaliser and were eventually rewarded when Euan Spackman brought them back level. That was to be the end of the night’s scoring as the two sides had to settle for a point and the second drawn game of the night in the division. The point for Royal Wootton Bassett Town was enough to see them go top of the early table.

It was tight game down in Warminster where the home side Warminster Town were playing their first game of the season against last season’s cup finalists AFC Aldermaston who had secured some excellent results at the back end of last season. The two sides turned round at half time with the game still without a goal but the deadlock was finally broken just before the hour mark, Zach Hayton putting visitors Aldermaston ahead. It remained that way until four minutes from time when an own goal doubled Aldermaston’s lead and then a further goal in the final minute of the game from Christian Mubaira made sure of the points for Aldermaston courtesy of a 3-0 win.

Bishops Cannings scheduled league game with Radstock Town was postponed due to Bishops Cannings needing to play their Wiltshire FA Youth Cup First Round tie against Durrington postponed from the previous week. With much of last season’s Devizes Town squad who secured the Under 18 Floodlight Division league and cup double in their ranks, Bishops Cannings enjoyed a comfortable passage into the next round of the County Cup at Green Lane on the 3G as they hit 11 unanswered goals. There were hat-tricks for last season’s two joint top scorers at Devizes, Jack Smith and Caleb Hollow, with further goals from Jack Farion, Danny Bowyer, Harrison Sartin, Harvey Swain and Tyler Moore.
