Wroughton Bid To Make
Wiltshire Senior Cup Final
For First Time

Jonathan Peachey-Score who has scored 5 of Wroughton's 7 goals so far in the Wiltshire Senior Cup

Everyone from the Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League wishes Wroughton all the best for the big Wiltshire County FA Senior Cup semi-final against Toolstation Western League side Warminster Town this evening.

Ben Jarrett and Nathan Hall’s side have made it through to the last four with wins against fellow Wiltshire Senior League sides Blunsdon and Pewsey Vale. In the First Round a hat-trick from Jonathan Peachey-Score plus one from Fraser Little secured a 4-0 for Wroughton over Blunsdon at the Weir Field. Wroughton had home advantage again in the Quarter Final against Pewsey Vale. Peachey-Score was once again amongst the goals scoring twice in a 3-0 win, Luke Saunders with the other Wroughton goal. Warminster Town have reached the semi-final having played just one game after being given a bye in the First Round. In the Quarter Final they met another Step 6 side Malmesbury Victoria from the uhlsport Hellenic League who they defeated 3-1.  The winner of tonight’s tie will meet either Downton, the current cup holders or Amesbury Town in the final.

Warminster Town have won the Wiltshire Senior Cup on three occasions, all three victories coming at the start of the 20th Century. Their first cup success came in 1900-01 when they defeated Even Swindon in the final. They made the final again two seasons’ later where they met Wootton Bassett Town. A replay was needed to settle matters on this occasion after it finished 0-0 in the initial meeting between the sides, Warminster winning the replay 3-1. Their final cup success was also over 100 years ago when they lifted the cup again in 1910-11, defeating Salisbury City in the final. As well as the three wins, Warminster have also been runners-up on five occasions, the last one being in 2008-09 when they were beaten 2-1 by Highworth Town in the final. In contrast Wroughton, if they win tonight, will be playing in the final for the very first time.  Whilst Wroughton sit third in the table, Warminster are in mid-table in Division One of the Toolstation League and Wroughton are more than capable of a cup upset tonight, hopefully history can be made.

The good news for next season is that, following a request from the Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League, the Wiltshire FA have confirmed that Reserve and Development sides playing in our Premier Division of our league will be permitted into the Wiltshire FA’s Senior Cup, aligning the position with neighbouring counties where for example Odd Down (Bath) Development and Larkhall Athletic Development already play in the Somerset Senior Cup. This will give a much-needed boost to the Wiltshire Senior Cup, the oldest and most prestigious of the Wiltshire FA’s cup competition, after the number of teams entering the competition was reduced following the decision a few season’s back for sides at Step 5 to play in the Wiltshire Premier Shield.
