Melksham Maintain Perfect Start,
Redhouse Win Top Clash in North

Redhouse who won the top of the table clash with Cricklade Town

Mid Wiltshire DIvision

The big game at the top of the Mid Wiltshire Division saw league leaders Melksham Town looking to maintain their 100% winning record against another side who had started the season well, new side Durrington.  It was to be the established Melksham side who came out on top as they recorded their sixth straight win thanks to goals from Tom Robinson, James Taylor and Rob Cousins in a 3-0 win that maintained their one point lead at the top of the table.

Chippenham Town’s excellent start to the season continued on Monday night when they took on Winsley, who contain most of Bradford Town’s title winning side from last season, at Melksham Town’s Oakfield Stadium. Two goals from Steve Tweddle were enough to give Chippenham all three points with a 2-1 victory as they continued their unbeaten start to the season, Daniel Reynolds with the Winsley goal. That is now five wins and two draws from their opening seven games, and they certainly look like they are going to have a big say in this season’s Mid Wiltshire Division title race.

Devizes Town are starting to find their form in the division and made it three games unbeaten with a 3-0 away success against Trowbridge Town Tigers at Selwood Academy. Leading 1-0 at the break thanks to a Robert Mitchell goal, second half goals from Chris Evans and a second for Mitchell ensured a second victory of the season for Devizes who remained in eight spot despite the win although they did close the gap to the sides above them.

Corsham Town and Calne Town were involved in a close encounter at Green Lane on Monday night with Corsham eventually edging it by the odd goal in five. Calne led 1-0 at the break but Corsham turned things round in the second half to take the three points courtesy of a 3-2 score line. On target for Corsham were Daniel Harvey, Liam Ralph and Simon Gray, Gary Whitney and Nicholas Alexander with the two Calne goals.

Radstock Town made it three wins from their last four games with a comfortable 10-0 victory over struggling Amesbury Junior Badgers. Jamie Moth and James Billing both hit hat-tricks, Sean Snook bagged a brace and there were further goals from Nathan Farquharson and Dino Yun Chai Lai as Radstock registered their biggest win of the season.

The final scheduled game in the Division between Warminster Town and Westbury United was postponed with Westbury unable to field a side leading to the first match award in the Mid WIlts division this season.

North Wiltshire Division

Just three of the four scheduled fixtures in the North Wiltshire Veterans’ Division went ahead this week with the game between Swindon Rovers and Coate being postponed with Swindon Rovers unable to raise a side.

The three games that did get played included the big top of the table clash between Cricklade Town and Redhouse at the Corinium Stadium on Tuesday evening. Last season Cricklade Town had won both games between the two sides by big margins winning 6-0 in the first meeting between the two sides and then going one better in the return hitting seven unanswered goals. There was to be no repeat of those sorts of scores in this season’s first encounter between the sides with the game being settled by a solitary goal from Redhouse’s David Pratt, his sixth of the season. Cricklade Town had gone 21 games without dropping a single point before Tuesday’s defeat and last season’s champions now trail Redhouse by four points but have a game in hand.

Penhill United continued their good start to the season with a 4-2 victory over Swindon Old Boys at New College also on Tuesday night. The goals were shared around the side with Shane Davis, Ben Jarrett, Lee Hollamby and Tawanda Chizema all finding the net for Penhill, Barry Dickens with both goals for Swindon Old Boys.

The third game that took place in the Division was on Wednesday night at the Gerard Buxton Ground where Royal Wootton Bassett Town and Blunsdon met but unfortunately the game did not go the full duration due to an injury suffered by the Blunsdon keeper with the game cut short with Royal Wootton Bassett Town leading 2-1 at the time. The Management Committee will now decide whether the result stands or the game is replayed. It is pleasing to report that the goalkeeper, after visiting hospital, was able to go home.
