Corsham Vets Finding Form in Mid Wilts Div,
No Goals in Big Game in North Div

With it being half term week in Wiltshire there was a restricted programme of games in the Mid Wiltshire Veterans’ Division with just two games scheduled only one of which went ahead in the end, with Winsley calling off their game against Devizes Town. The one game that went ahead saw Corsham Town defeat Chippenham Town 2-0 at Green Lane thanks to goals from Josh Brigham and Simon Gray. Corsham have lost just the one game in their opening seven fixtures and are once again looking serious title challengers having been the first champions of the division back in Season 2020-21. The win on Monday night moved them to within two points of Chippenham with two games in hand.

The big game in the North Wiltshire Division was on Tuesday night at the Corinium Stadium, Cirencester where Cricklade Town entertained Coate, one of two teams still unbeaten in the Division this season. This was the third attempt to stage this specific game with Coate having been unable to play on the two previously arranged dates due to a wedding and then an already arranged game against a side from Exeter. When the game finally went ahead it proved to be the anticipated close encounter between two very strong sides who are definitely going to be in the title mix this coming season. It was to be an evening where the defences came out on top with no goals and the two sides had to make do with a point apiece. Whilst it was the first points dropped by Coate they, along with Redhouse, have dropped the least points in the division from their opening round of fixtures. This coming week Coate will look to play the final outstanding game in the League Cup away to Devizes Town. Having been postponed once already due to a waterlogged pitch if it is postponed for a second time under the cup rules home advantage would move to Coate.

There was one game played in the First Round of the League Cup and it saw Swindon Old Boys progress to the Second Round courtesy of a 1-0 win over Swindon Rovers, Ben Keating with the only goal of the game. Swindon Old Boys will be home to the winner of that Devizes Town versus Coate game.

Back in the league on Wednesday night Redhouse opened up a three-point lead at the top of the table with a 4-0 win over Stratton Juniors. David Pratt scored twice to take his total for the season to five and there were further goals from Ashley Bowes and Leigh Brown.
