AFC Brislington who got the point they needed at Highworth on Sunday to secure runners-up spot

The final two games in the Ladies Divisions of the Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League were played on Sunday and the game played in the Premier Division saw the final honours for the season in the two Ladies divisions decided.

Premier Division

In the Premier Division the one matter to be decided was who would finish as runners-up behind champions Bemerton Heath Harlequins. The two teams battling out for that second spot were up against each other on the final Sunday of the season, with Highworth Town entertaining AFC Brislington at the Elms Recreation Ground. AFC Brislington went into the game a point clear of Highworth knowing that a draw would be sufficient to give them that runners-up spot. The first half saw two evenly matched sides cancel each other out and create little by way of any clear cut chances, and the two sides turned around at half time with the game still looking for its first goal.

The game came to life early in the second half though, AFC Brislington's Megan Wiltshire pouncing on hesitation in the Highworth defence to fire her side ahead. The lead would not last long though, as Highworth Town hit back almost immediately. A ball into the box saw Highworth's leading scorer Bethan Harris challenge for the ball in the air with a Brislington defender and keeper, the defender impeding her own keeper which saw the ball fall kindly for Harris who had a simple tap in to level matters up at 1-1. Whilst there were chances at both ends, Highworth who needed the win to pip Brislington, didn't really test the visiting keeper and there were to be no further goals which meant AFC Brislington secured that runners-up spot behind Bemerton. The runners-up medals were presented to the AFC Brislington players by League Chairman Brian Busson at the conclusion of the game.

Development Division

The one outstanding game in the Development Division, which is set to be re-branded as Division One next season, saw Blunsdon entertain South Newton & Barford Hornets after the Wiltshire FA dismissed Blunsdon's appeal against the re-staging of the game which had been abandoned with Blunsdon leading at the time of the abandonment. It started well for the home side Blunsdon on Sunday as first half goals from leading scorer Lyndsey Plant and Danielle Tuck saw Blunsdon lead 2-0 at the break. However, visitors South Newton & Barford turned things around in the second half, Kaelani Hayes scoring twice to level matters up at 2-2 and give South Newton & Barford a point which was enough to see them secure third spot behind champions Marlborough Town and runners-up Trowbridge Town Wanderers. South Newton & Barford finishing just that one point above both Salisbury and Malmesbury Victoria. It is pleasing to report that all fixtures were played in this division this season.
