Premier Division

There were just three games played in midweek in the Premier Division of the Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League, with Larkhall Athletic Development and Shrivenham securing home victories and Wroughton picking up three points on the road.

The win for Larkhall Athletic Development on Wednesday night came at the expense of a Trowbridge Town side who have not made the best of starts this season. Larkhall Athletic started brightly and thought they had gone ahead in the first minute when James Okell had the ball in the back of the net only to be denied by an assistants’ flag. The same happened again on  ten minutes but Larkhall eventually did score one that counted, James Horrocks with a well-placed header for his fourth of the season. Larkhall continued to push for more goals but found Trowbridge keeper Jordan Gullis in fine form, the keeper pulling off a string of good saves to deny Larkhall a second. A second did eventually come ten minutes into the second half, Matty Morris squaring for Ben Wickens to sweep the ball home against his former club. The game was put beyond the visitors when a stunning move culminated in Angus Williamson hitting a right foot volley into the roof of the net for 3-0. Gullis continued to deny Larkhall, pulling off three more terrific saves to deny the home side further goals. However, he was eventually beaten again 12 minutes from time, Martin Smith scoring with another volley to complete the nights scoring. To their credit Trowbridge Town never stopped and hit the bar late with an excellent free kick but in the end were well beaten on the night. The win for Larkhall saw them move up to third place in the table whilst Trowbridge remain in the bottom four with just one win from their opening four games.

The same night Shrivenham picked up their second win of the season with a 3-1 home success over promoted Down Ampney. Brothers Brad and James Hirst both scored for Shrivenham, with Jack Rockett getting the other goal for the home side, Charlie McCuish with his third of the season in reply for Down Ampney.

The previous night Wroughton had also registered their second win of the season with a 2-1 away success against Park United at the Secure Stadium, home of Corsham Town. On target for Wroughton were the experienced Jonny Davoille and their recent signing from Stratton, Aaron Dale, Zach Bruce with the solitary goal for Park. The win for Wroughton saw them climb out of the bottom four.

Division One

Division One league leaders Bradford Town Reserves moved a point clear at the top of the table following a 1-1 draw away at Malmesbury Victoria Development. Both goals came in the first half, Joe Tranter put Malmesbury ahead before Bradford Town’s leading marksman Kieran Balchin levelled matters up ten minutes before the break. The draw sees Malmesbury sit eighth in the table but just three points behind the leaders in what is a tight top half of the table.

Bishops Cannings are up to second spot following an impressive 5-2 home win over Great Western, the first points that the Swindon based side have dropped all season. That is now three straight wins for Bishops Cannings with them scoring 19 goals in the process of securing those three victories. Ethan Howard led the way with a hat-trick taking his total for the season to eight, both Szymon Raczek and Harry Drewitt were once again amongst the goals and the three Bishops Cannings players now all feature in the top four scorers in the division. The two goals in reply for Great Western were scored by Ethan Miller and Joshua Ukoha.

Fairford Town Reserves and Redhouse met at the Acorn Property Group Stadium and with both teams having started the season in decent form a close encounter was anticipated, and it proved to be just that. A solitary goal from Fairford Town’s Thomas Chamberlain was all that separated the two sides. The win for Fairford saw them move level on points with their beaten opponents with Redhouse in third place ahead of Fairford on goal difference only, with Fairford having a game in hand over all the three teams above them in the table.

There was another tight affair at Tucker Park where Faringdon Town Development picked up their first league win of the season on a tricky pitch due to the lack of rain in recent weeks. In the end a goal from Faringdon’s Kyle Wootton secured the three points for the home side against Shrivenham Development. The win for Faringdon saw them open up a four point gap over the two bottom sides as a result of the win.

Purton Kingsdown Reserves are up to sixth place in the table after a 3-0 away win at Stratton in their local derby encounter. An own goal set them on the way before further goals from Ben Payne and Nicholas Wilkes made sure of the three points. After a good start to the season Stratton have now lost three in a row.

Biggest winners in midweek were Kintbury Rangers Reserves who defeated near neighbours Lambourn Sports 5-1 at the Recreation Ground. Due to cricket Lambourn are yet to play a home game but will be hoping their form picks up once they are back on home turf. Jake McQuilkin scored twice for Kintbury with the other goals coming through Luke Conner, Charlie Adams and Aiden Maycock.

Unfortunately the game between Westbury United Reserves and Pewsey Vale was postponed with Westbury once again unable to field a side. They have assured the league that they will fulfil their fixtures from here on but once the discipline process has been completed they are likely to be well adrift of the rest of the division.
