After last week’s issues that had seen just seven of the ten fixtures completed in the two Ladies divisions of the Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League it is pleasing to report that all ten games in Week Three were completed on Sunday.

Premier Division

In the Premier Division the early league leaders are last season’s Division One champions Marlborough Town who made it three wins from their opening three fixtures with a 3-1 home win over Melksham Town. It was all square at 1-1 at the break but two second half goals for the home side made sure of the points. After scoring five times in Marlborough Town Reserves opening two fixtures Kitty Bevan was given her chance in the first team and continued her scoring form getting one of the three Marlborough goals, the other two goals coming through Sienna Lewis and a third of the season from Lily Wain, Andrea Chludilova with the Melksham goal. With Keynsham “A” without a fixture Marlborough Town are three points clear at the top whilst, despite the defeat, Melksham remained in third place.

Highworth Town are up to fourth spot after they secured their first win of the season, a 2-0 home victory over Swindon Supermarine, bouncing back from last week’s heavy defeat in the FA Cup.  Both Highworth goals came in the first half with Elsiana Wraight scoring both. The opener came from a shot from just outside the box on the right-hand side which deceived the Swindon Supermarine keeper at the near post to find its way into the back of net. The second came when Swindon Supermarine conceded possession midway in their own half allowing Wraight to run at and outpace three defenders before firing into the far bottom corner of the net for 2-0. Wraight was then denied a hat-trick by a fantastic save from the Swindon Supermarine keeper diving to her right. The second half, which was played in atrocious conditions, saw Supermarine grow into the game, but they were unable to find a way back into the game and Highworth were unable to add to their tally as they recorded a deserved 2-0 win to remain unbeaten in the league after two games. Biggest winners on Sunday were Purton Kingsdown who also recorded their first win of the season with a 9-0 away victory at Barford Hornets. The game was effectively over by half time as the visitors scored five unanswered goals in the first half and four more after the break to round off a good afternoon for the Swindon based side. Charlotte Robinson, Katrina Dias and Millie Loveday all scored twice with the other three goals coming through Shannel Baldwin, Alexi Lee and substitute Ellis Dyke.

Another side registering a big score and their first win of the season were FC Abbey Meads. Having been frustrated by the weather last week which had seen their game against Trowbridge Wanderers postponed, there was no danger of the wet weather causing a postponement with the 3G pitch at Moredon. As in the game at Barford Hornets, most of the damage was inflicted in the first half by FC Abbey Meads against opponents Westbury Ladies. Debbie Rose fired FC Abbey Meads ahead on 12 minutes with Emma Skinner then doubling the lead midway through the half. Two goals from Amelia Fowles in the space of eight minutes put FC Abbey Meads 4-0 ahead and then a fifth from Michelle Rich just before half time put FC Abbey Meads in a commanding position at the break. Claire Moreton then made it 6-0 six minutes into the second half and further goals from Mia Wolo and Emma Skinner rounded off a good afternoon for the home side. FC Abbey Meads are set for another frustrating Sunday next weekend as their scheduled County Cup game against Durrington has already been conceded by their opponents Durrington.

The final game of the weekend in the Premier Division saw another side, Calne Town, pick up their first win of the season, a hard fought 4-3 success at home against Trowbridge Wanderers. The two sides turned around at the break all square at 2-2 with all to play for and two further goals for Calne after the break, with just the one for Trowbridge, saw Calne secure the three points. Seven goals in the game with seven different scorers, Ellie Hamill, Abbie Pickett, Milly Price and Hannah Bishop getting the goals for Calne Town, Lauren Gowen, Jenna Sawyer and Isabella Green with the Trowbridge Wanderers reply.

Division One

The early leaders in Ladies Division One are new side Bishops Cannings who made it three wins from three games to start the season with a narrow 2-1 win over Ferndale Rodbourne. A solitary goal from Georgia Brown had given the home side the lead and it remained just the one goal in it until a minute from time when Megan Price doubled Bishops Cannings lead. There was still time for one more goal though as Natalie Mitchell pulled one back for Ferndale Rodbourne right at the death.

There are three other teams with 100% winning records but all three have so far played just two games. Malmesbury Victoria sit second in the table on goal difference after scoring 13 goals without reply at home against Durrington. Emilee Curtis led the way with five goals, Laura Deacon scored four, Emma Sharpe bagged a brace, with the other two goals coming through Lisa Lane and Shona Watt.

The other three games played in the division were much closer affairs. FC Chippenham sit third in the table with two wins from their two games so far after a 3-1 home win over Staverton Rangers. Amy Totterdell put FC Chippenham 1-0 up 12 minutes into the game and then added a second five minutes before the break. Maisie Harris pulled one back almost immediately for Staverton Rangers and there was just the one goal in it at half time. It remained that way until just after the hour mark when substitute Tyler Webb added a third for FC Chippenham to make sure of the three points for the home side.

Salisbury are the third side on six points from two games after a narrow 1-0 win at home against Marlborough Town Reserves, the all-important goal coming from Ellie Tompkins on 36 minutes. Spotting the Marlborough keeper off her line and, using the wind to her advantage, she shot from distance and the ball sailed into the top corner of the net to give Salisbury the lead. In difficult conditions the Salisbury defence, well marshalled by the returning keeper Zoe Barton, then ensured that Marlborough could not get back in the game, with Barton getting a clean sheet on her return to the side.

There was a local derby in Swindon when Purton Kingsdown Reserves entertained near neighbours Stratton at Kingsdown School. It was to prove to be a historic afternoon for the newly formed Stratton Ladies side as they registered their ever first league win thanks to two goals from both Chloe Brown and Sophie Smyth in a 4-2 success, Hope Hedges and Maz Hobbs with the Purton Kingsdown goals.
