Premier Division

There were just three midweek fixtures in the Premier Division as teams caught up with fixtures which for one reason or another had been pushed back from the earlier weeks of the season. On Tuesday night Pewsey Vale made the trip into the city of Salisbury to play Bemerton Heath Harlequins  looking to move up into the top five. Unfortunately for them things did not quite go to plan as Nick Edwards young Bemerton side secured their third victory of the season with a narrow 3-2 success thanks to two goals from Harry Guy and one from James McSorley. That is now eight goals for Guy so far this season. Pewsey Vale’s Josh Fowler has one more than Guy after he netted for the ninth time this season, Finlay Kiddle with the other Pewsey Vale goal.

The same night Royal Wootton Bassett Town Development  entertained Letcombe at the Gerard Buxton Sports Ground. The last time the two sides had met towards the end of last season the game had finished 0-0 mainly due to the efforts of Royal Wootton Bassett Town keeper Adam House and he was at it again on Tuesday night on his return to the Development side after a short stint covering for first team keeper Lewis Clark whilst he was overseas on holiday.  The first real chance of the night fell the way of the home side, former Wroughton striker Kassa Anderson seeing his shot easily gathered by Harry Whitehead in the Letcombe goal. Letcombe’s Calum Hendry then went close at the other end with a well struck shot from distance that went just wide of the post. Prince Nyongolo, Royal Wootton Bassett Town Development's lively young striker,  then went close for the home side with an effort at the near post, his powerful shot just going the wrong side of the goal although Whitehead probably had it covered if it had been on target. The next player to go just wide of the post was Letcombe’s Oscar Griffiths as the two sides continued to create chances at either end. A last-ditch tackle on Royal Wootton Bassett Town’s Nyongolo saw him go down in the box, but the recovering defender made contact with the ball just before the man when clearing the danger and there was to be no penalty. It was then the turn of House, as he had done last season, to once again frustrate Letcombe. He initially did well to save at the feet of Griffiths when the Letcombe striker was through in on goal and then saved a second time, this time with his feet, when the ball was recycled and fell to Griffiths who shot hard and low to the keeper’s right. House then did well to save from Letcombe’s leading scorer Jordan Davies, as the visitors pushed hard for the opener. Just before half time Letcombe’s Hendry was the latest player to see a shot go just wide of the post as the teams turned around with the game still without a goal despite multiple chances at both ends. The second half continued in a similar vein to the first. House once again denied Griffiths with an excellent save whilst at the other end Letcombe’s keeper Whitehead did well to turn over a free kick from Sam Case. Whitehead was soon to go from here to villain though, getting his marching orders from the referee for something he said, and Jack Heggie had to take over in goal for Letcombe. Despite being a man down Letcombe created a golden chance late on, a defence splitting pass from Kieran Kerby put substitute Kyle Cross in on goal, but he shot wide with possibly the best chance of the night. The home side didn’t really take advantage of the extra man in the closing stages,  the closest they went in the was when Flynn Walters, on his return to the club after starting the season at Calne Town, blazed well over when cutting in from the left, as it finished 0-0 and the two teams had to settle for a point apiece. Royal Wootton Bassett Town remained in fifth spot in the table, one point and one place ahead of Letcombe. The following night it was top versus bottom when Swindon Supermarine Development hosted Trowbridge Town at the Imagine Cruising Stadium. Visitors Trowbridge held the visitors at bay until just after the half hour mark, a defence splitting pass put Casey Spencer-Harding in the clear, Trowbridge keeper Jordan Gullis blocked his initial effort but the ball fell kindly to Spencer-Harding who made no mistake at the second attempt to score his second goal of the season. Six minutes later the league leaders doubled their lead, Regan Lach heading home unchallenged from a corner for 2-0. It became 3-0 four minutes before the break, Trowbridge's Harvey Frisby firing into his own net giving Gullis no chance when attempting to clear the danger, a strike his teams forwards would have been proud of if at the right end of the pitch. Evan Black had scored twice for Supermarine in Saturday’s 5-2 win at Royal Wootton Bassett Town Development and was once again on target adding a fourth on 65 minutes with a fine individual goal, firing low into the far corner of the net.  Regan Lach made it 5-0 ten minutes from time with his second of the game, firing home from the penalty spot. Moments later Trowbridge keeper Gullis was sent off for a second yellow card on what was turning into a night to forget for the visitors. Trowbridge’s miserable night was complete when substitute Tom Pitt made it six when he slid the ball into the net after the stand-in Trowbridge keeper was only able to parry an initial shot straight into Pitt’s path and he got to the ball just ahead of the recovering defender to make the final score 6-0. A perfect ten out of ten wins for Matt Roberts side  who went four points clear at the top ahead of Saturday’s big game against their closest challengers at the top, Larkhall Athletic Development.

Division One

There were also three scheduled games in Division One of the Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior but in the end only two of them would take place with the heavy rain on Sunday and at the beginning of the week seeing the game between Malmesbury Vics and Kintbury Rangers Development  postponed with the pitch not in a playable condition.

On Tuesday night Faringdon Town Development  took on Marlborough Town at Tucker Park. The visitors Marlborough opened up a three-goal lead before a late rally from the home side almost brought them a share of the points. Leo Carter-Francis pulled one back for Faringdon just before the hour mark and then in injury time Jamie Arlott added a second for the home side. Unfortunately for the home side there was no real time left for them to complete the comeback as Marlborough edged home 3-2 to move up to second place in the table behind Fairford Town Reserves.

The following night the leaders Fairford Town Reserves  were themselves in action when they entertained Great Western. It was to prove to be another good evening for the league leaders as a hat-trick from Alec Gawthropp took his total for the season into double figures as his side ran out 5-1 winners on the night, goals also coming from Miles Arnold and Ashton Wallace, Ethan Miller with the goal for Great Western. The eighth win in nine games for Fairford saw them open up a nine-point lead over Marlborough Town at the top of the table.

Wiltshire Junior Cup

In the one outstanding Wiltshire Junior Cup First Round tie, Westbury United lost heavily against Trowbridge & District Division One side Warminster Town Reserves, going down 6-1 at home, veteran Wayne Wheeler with the Westbury goal before then getting himself sent off.
