Premier Division

After starting the season with ten straight wins, Swindon Supermarine Development have finally lost their perfect record after they fell to a 4-0 defeat away at second placed Larkhall Athletic Development on the 3G at Plain Ham on Saturday. Larkhall started the game strongly as they looked to reduce Supermarine’s four-point lead at the top of the table and they went close to the opener with just five minutes on the clock, Matt Bowman missing a glorious headed chance. They didn’t have to wait long for the first goal though as, moments later, Matt Morris skipped passed his full back and delivered a delightful curling cross which Arlo Stone headed home for 1-0 to the home side with just eight minutes gone. Larkhall made it two just before the half-hour mark when Swindon Supermarine were caught over playing at the back and James Horrocks fired home at the second attempt for his eighth goal of the season. The closest Swindon Supermarine came to a goal in the first half was when Evan Black hit the outside of the post with an excellent strike on the stroke of half time. It remained 2-0 with limited chances at both ends in the second half until just after the hour mark when James Okell had a glorious chance to seal the game for Larkhall but saw his side foot effort go wide of the post. The miss seemed to spark Swindon Supermarine into life, and they began to have more possession as they sought to get back into the game. However, having avoided conceding during this period when their opponents were on top, a counterattack on 75 minutes from Larkhall saw them effectively seal the points, Bowman playing in Horrocks, who rounded the keeper and chipped to the ball to the back post where Bowman headed home for 3-0. Swindon Supermarine best chance of the half came when they had a penalty appeal which was turned away and in the confusion that followed, Larkhall keeper Kit Bond made a point blank save to preserve his clean sheet for the home side. Larkhall added a fourth goal three minutes from time to compound Swindon Supermarine’s miserable afternoon, Angus Williamson finding substitute Farley McDowell who fired home for 4-0. In injury time Larkhall nearly added a fifth, Ben Whitson hitting the crossbar with a stunning volley form 20 yards. The win for Larkhall saw them move to within a point of Supermarine at the top of the table with Supermarine having a game in hand which is this coming Wednesday when they entertain Purton Kingsdown.

The action in the division had got underway on Friday night when Shrewton United entertained Calne Town Reserves, the game having been brought forward to the Friday at the request of the visitors who made a contribution towards staging the game under lights. The game drew a large crowd to the Recreation Ground with the fans witnessing a stunning first half performance from George Plank’s side which saw them lead 4-0 at the break. They went in front with just five minutes on the clock, a ball in from Sanjay Samuda finding Kian Tydeman at the back post who controlled the ball before firing home for 1-0. Two minutes later Shrewton scored again, Lewis Elshaw scoring his first Shrewton goal with a powerful strike into the top corner of the net giving the Calne keeper no chance. It remained that way until 30 minutes in when Tydeman bagged his second of the game hitting a powerful shot from outside the box to give his side a 3-0 lead. Five minutes later Shrewton’s leading scorer had his hat-trick, netting from the penalty spot for 4-0. Seven minutes into the second half Tydeman had yet another, firing a free kick into the top corner for 5-0 and his 16th goal of the season. To their credit the young Calne Town Reserves side rallied and pulled a goal back on 73 minutes through Liam Brown. There was to be one more goal on the night and it went the way of Shrewton, Samuda setting up Morgan Aldridge for his second goal of the season as it finished 6-1 to Shrewton, the fourth time this season they have scored six goals in a game as they moved third in the table for the evening ahead of Saturday’s games.

Melksham Town Reserves moved back into third place the following day after a 3-0 home victory over Cricklade Town. Two goals for Oliver Farrell saw him take his total for the season to six, with Leon Hardman also on the score sheet for Melksham who maintained their one-point advantage over Shrewton after this weekend’s games but having one game more than Shrewton.

Royal Wootton Bassett Town Development remain in fifth place after their 3-0 home win over Bemerton Heath Harlequins Reserves on the 3G at the Gerard Buxton Sports Ground. All three goals for the home side came in the second half, with Max Spackman, Morgan Lowe and a third of the season from Matt Capel securing the points for the home side.

The all-important goal came from Kyle Bowyer 19 minutes into the game, the pacy winger beating his marker before firing home from a tight angle. Faringdon remain in eighth spot in the table level on points with Pewsey Vale.

Shrivenham are finally starting to find their form under their new management team, and they climbed three places into the top half of the table with their second win in a row, a 3-1 away success against Purton Kingsdown at the Red House. Shrivenham led 2-0 at the break thanks to first half goals from Kieran Sutton and Marshall Thompson. The first game when Sutton got behind the Purton Kingsdown defence and fired in from just outside the box. The second from Thompson came after a break down the right flank saw Brad Hirst put in a great ball that Thompson just had to guide into the net for 2-0. Purton Kingsdown got themselves back into the game in the second half, Ollie While scoring from the penalty spot with his third of the season after he himself had been adjudged to have been brought down in the box. The home side then pushed for an equaliser but they were caught on the break late on by the visitors, Sutton finding Hirst with a diagonal ball that put him in the clear and saw him finish in style with a shot into the top corner of the net making sure of the three points with a third goal for Shrivenham. Division One

With leaders Fairford Town Reserves in County Cup action, the other teams in Division One of the Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League had the chance to close the nine-point gap at the top of the table. Second placed Marlborough Town seized that opportunity with a comfortable 7-2 defeat of Redhouse in what had looked to be the top match of the day in the division but, in the end, turned into something of a one-sided affair with Redhouse missing several key players. Oliver Marland scored twice for Marlborough, with the other goals being shared around the team with one apiece for Kieran Maidment, Jake Davies, Harry Womersley and Dan Burke, with the other coming courtesy of an own goal. On target for Redhouse were Kieran Butler and Finlay Mowe.

Kintbury Rangers Reserves climbed one place into third spot after a comfortable 5-0 home win over Faringdon Town Reserves. Luke Conner led the way for the home side bagging a brace, a ninth of the season from Charlie Allsop plus further goals from Aiden Maycock and Gavin Richards did the damage for Kintbury. They remain two points behind Marlborough Town with a game in hand.

Level on points with Kintbury having played the same number of games are Bishop's Cannings who won 4-0 away at Stratton in Swindon. Two more goals for Harry Drewitt in this one taking his tally for the season to nine, with further goals from Tom Sharples and Thomas Buckle.

Bradford Town Reserves  dropped a couple of places in the table to fifth place after they were held to a 0-0 draw by Purton Kingsdown Reserves  on the 3G at Kingsdown School.

With it being so tight in the table below leaders Fairford Town Reserves, Great Western climbed four places in the table to sixth spot with a narrow 2-1 away win at Lambourn Sports thanks to goals from Adam Rudman and a second of the season from Arnold Sibanda, Sam Broadbank with the reply for Lambourn Sports. Great Western have a game in hand over all five teams above them in the table and could yet turn out to be one of the main challengers for honours this season.

Gloucestershire County Cup

In the Gloucestershire Senior Amateur County Cup, Division One leaders Fairford Town Reserves  progressed to the Second Round with a 1-0 win at Barnwood Utd, leading scorer Alec Gawthropp with his eleventh goal of the season enabling his side to make it through to the next round. With withdrawals from the competition Fairford Town Reserves have been given a bye in the Second Round meaning their scheduled league game against Pewsey Vale Development on 18th October is not impacted.
