Ladies Premier Division

The four games played in the Ladies Premier Division on Sunday saw 40 goals scored with two of the games being very much one-sided affairs. There was, however, a close encounter in the game at Oakfields between Melksham Town and Westbury Ladies. When the two sides had met at the start of the season it had been another close affair as the two sides fought out a 2-2 draw but there was to be a winner on this occasion in the return fixture, with Melksham Town taking all three points courtesy of a 1-0 win. The game was ultimately decided in Melksham’s favour by the narrowest of margins, an early own goal being all that separated the sides, as too evenly matched sides cancelled each other out for the rest of the game. The win for Melksham saw them move to within three points of league leaders Marlborough Town who were without a game following the withdrawal of Trowbridge Wanderers from the league.

An improving Calne Town side picked up their second win of the season with a 4-1 away win at Highworth Town to climb one place in the table to sixth spot thanks to two goals from Milly Price and one from both Megan Godwin and Sophie Shine, Molly Joyce with the Highworth Town reply.

Keynsham Town “A” proved too strong for struggling Barford Hornets, scoring 19 without reply. Brooke Stirrup scored eight of the Keynsham Town goals, Lola Kondorosi hit five, both Jenna Bakehouse and Robyn Prince scored twice, with further goals from Lauren Gregory and Gracie Reed. Keynsham remain in third spot but with games in hand over the two sides above them in the table.

Last season the two local derby games between what was then Kingsdown and Swindon Supermarine had been tight affairs with both sides winning their respective home fixtures. That pattern of home wins continued in the first meeting between the sides this season, but this game at the Red House was to be another game that turned into a one-sided affair with Purton Kingsdown scoring 15 times without reply. Credit to the Swindon Supermarine side, who played the whole game with just ten players, for battling to the end but Purton Kingsdown were clinical in front of goal in registering the big win. Katrina Dias led the way scoring four of the Purton Kingsdown goals, Millie Loveday, Steph Quince, Amy Hards and Whitney Milhench all scored twice, with goals from Imogen Maguire, Amelia Sharp and Charlotte Robinsn completing the scoring.

League Cup

There were also several big scores in the Preliminary Round of the Ladies League Cup, this despite the Management Committee having given byes to ten of the eleven Premier Division sides with five of the six games played being all-Division One affairs. The one Premier Division side playing in the Preliminary Round, FC Abbey Meads,  proved too strong for Purton Kingsdown Reserves scoring 21 unanswered goals highlighting the big difference in standard between the top of the Premier Division and Division One. There was a double hat-trick for Rebecca Wakley, Michelle Rich scored five, Summer Dennis scored four, Hannah Attewell registered a hat-trick, Chloe Neate scored twice with Millie Swift getting the other goal. Credit to the Purton Kingsdown players for playing the game rather than conceding the tie as some might have done in the circumstances, and they can go forward in the knowledge that they will not play such a strong side again this season. FC Abbey Meads will be away to fellow Premier Division side Highworth Town in the next round.

Although all the other ties were all-Division One affairs, there were still another 40 goals scored in the five games. Malmesbury Victoria had won 13-0 earlier in the season in the league against Durrington and the south Wiltshire side had another difficult afternoon in the north of the county in their Preliminary Round tie as Malmesbury ran out 18-0 winners on a heavy pitch at the Flying Monk ground to make it through to the last 16. Leading scorer Emilee Collier added four more to her total, Rhianon Stidever, Lisa Lane and Karma Kabbani all scored hat-tricks, Laura Deacon added two more to her tally for the season with Amberlie Miller and Karen Marshall also amongst the goals.  Malmesbury’s reward for the win is another home tie, this time against Premier Division opposition in the shape of Keynsham Town A.

When Salisbury had met Stratton in Swindon in the league earlier in the season, they had returned home with all three points following a 4-0 win. They had a more comfortable afternoon in completing a league and cup double over Stratton scoring nine goals without reply. Leading scorer Nicole Webster led the way adding four more to her total to take her tally for the season to 14, the rest of the goals were shared around the team with Samantha Deacon, Angela Collins, Lucy Pearson-Motley and Melissa Penn all scoring one apiece with the final goal in the 9-0 win coming courtesy of an own goal. Salisbury will now be home to fellow Division One side Blunsdon in the next round.

FC Chippenham were another side who carried their good league form into the cup competition and were a third side completing a league and cup double, with Bishops Cannings their victims. Having won 6-3 in the league there was this time a four-goal margin of victory, a hat-trick from leading scorer Lily Aylan plus further goals from Amy Totterdell and Mollie Cavaciuti securing the a 5-1 win, Lucy-Anne Skinner with the consolation goal for Bishops Cannings. The win effectively sees FC Chippenham through to the quarter final as they had been drawn against Trowbridge Wanderers in the next round and will consequently now get a bye as a result of Trowbridge withdrawing from the league. Blunsdon were yet another side completing a league and cup double on Sunday having won 4-0 on their last visit to Staverton Rangers, they repeated that scoreline on Sunday thanks to two goals from Laura Gammon and one each from Jody Nicholls and Danielle Tuck. As noted earlier, they will be away to fellow Division One side Salisbury in the next round.

The final tie of the Preliminary Round saw two teams who had met in the league the week before, Marlborough Town Reserves and Ferndale Rodbourne up against each other. In the league encounter at Marlborough the home side had run out 3-0 winners and they repeated that score line for a second consecutive week, two goals from Daisy Cox and one from Kerry Ash securing the cup win. Marlborough Town Reserves will be home to Premier Division side Barford Hornets in the next round. Full details of the draw for the First Round and the Preliminary Round results are shown below:
