Advantage Nationwide in North,
Disappointing Week in Mid Wilts

North Wiltshire Division

It is now very much advantage Nationwide in the North Wiltshire Veterans’ Division of the Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League after this week’s round of matches. Nationwide maintained their recent good run that has seen them lose just once in their last 19 games in all competitions with a 2-0 win over Royal Wootton Bassett Town on Thursday night at Moredon. Adam Devine gave Nationwide an early lead and a second from Pul Stonehouse six minutes from time made sure of the three points for the league leaders.

Earlier in the week Cricklade Town had fallen to a 1-0 home defeat at Cirencester against Penhill United in a rehearsal for the Wiltshire County FA Veterans’ County Cup, Mathew Bugden getting the only goal of the game eleven minutes from time to strike a major blow for Cricklade’s title defence. The win for Penhill saw them move level on points with their beaten opponents having played one game more. The result means both Cricklade and Penhill now trail Nationwide by six points with five games remaining for both Nationwide and Cricklade, with Penhill having four to play.

Redhouse who remain in second place, one point ahead of Cricklade and Penhill, have five games remaining after their scheduled game against Stratton was postponed with Stratton unable to raise a side.

FS Stratton maintained their recent great run securing a narrow 2-1 win over Purton Kingsdown to make it six games unbeaten, Tom Brown with both the FS Stratton goals and David Gee getting the Purton Kingsdown reply.

ExIntel won the battle of the bottom two sides in the division, defeating AFC Swindon 3-0 thanks to goals from James Joyce, Andrew Phipps and Matthew Gumm.

The other game this week was a high scoring affair at New College where Chiseldon and Swindon Rovers scored eight goals between them, Chiseldon running out 5-3 winners. Adam O’Keeffe scored a hat-trick for Chiseldon with Dean Hart and Daryl Herring getting the other two Chiseldon goals, with Lee Wilson (2) and Lee Holland getting the Swindon Rovers goals.

Mid Wiltshire Division

It was a very disappointing week in the Mid Wiltshire Veterans’ Division with just one of the four games getting played with two teams, Barford Hornets and Durrington being unable to raise a side for their games and the pitch at Warminster Town once again not being playable.

The game that did go ahead saw Melksham Town move level on points with Devizes Town at the top of the table thanks to a 3-1 home win over Calne Town with Gary Higdon getting all three Melksham goals. Higdon got the first, with a penalty but Calne equalised with virtually the last kick of the half with a headed goal by Ian McDermid from close range. It remained a tight affair in the second half but Melksham eventually broke Calne down with ten minutes remaining, Gary Higdon with two quickfire goals to complete his hat trick.
