North Wiltshire Division

It was a good week for three of the four sides at the top of the North Wiltshire Veterans’ Division of the Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior. The one exception was Cricklade Town who frustratingly saw their home game against Purton Kingsdown postponed at short notice, with Purton Kingsdown unable to raise a side for the second consecutive week.

The other three sides all secured wins to maintain their title challenge although with games now running out Nationwide are very much in the driving seat with a six-point lead at the top of the division. They recorded their 15th league victory of the season with a 4-1 win over Swindon Rovers on Thursday night. Goals from Nathaniel Harrison and Andrew Goodchild put them 2-0 up at half time. Paul Stonehouse then extended their lead three minutes into the second half and whilst Rovers pulled one back through Ashley Davies eight minutes from time, a fourth for Nationwide three minutes later from Adam Devine made sure of the three points for Nationwide.

Penhill United sit second in the table after they recorded a 5-2 win over AFC Swindon. Leading 2-0 at the break thanks to two goals from Chris Allen they added three more in the second half through Matt Horsell, Harry Etheridge and a 24th of the season from the division’s leading scorer Peter Myall to register league win number 12 of the season. The two goals in reply for AFC Swindon were scored by Cameron Alexander and Andrew Copland. Penhill United will go into Friday’s County Cup final against Cricklade Town unbeaten now in their last four games.

It was a much tighter affair for Redhouse this week, a solitary goal from Michael Jones being enough to give them all three points against a much-improved ExIntel side.

The action in the division had got underway on Monday night when Stratton made it two wins on the bounce with a 2-1 victory over Royal Wootton Bassett Town at Moredon thanks to goals from Ian Herring and Vince McMackin, Andrew Huggins with the Royal Wootton Bassett goal.

The other game played in the week saw Chiseldon register their sixth victory of the season, beating FS Stratton 3-1 with Adam O’Keeffe scoring all three Chiseldon goals to move his total for the season onto 15, Tom Brown with the FS Stratton goal. The win for Chiseldon saw them move above Swindon Rovers in the table.

Mid Wiltshire Division

Unfortunately, just one of the three scheduled games went ahead in the Mid Wiltshire Veterans’ Division with Radstock Town calling off their home game against Melksham Town due to pitch conditions and Durrington being unable to raise a side for their game away at Warminster Town.

The one game that did go ahead saw Devizes Town make it a perfect dozen with a 3-1 home win over Calne Town at Nursteed Road. It was a good night for Mark Dolman who scored all three of the Devizes Town goals to take his tally for the season to 13, with George Brown getting the Calne Town goal. The win sees Devizes Town sit three points clear of Melksham Town at the top of the table with both sides having four games to play including a game between the two scheduled for the end of next month. This coming week both will be involved in Veterans’ League Cup semi final action with Melksham Town home to Cricklade Town from the North Wiltshire Veterans’ Division on Monday night, with Devizes Town also home to North Wiltshire Division opponents Nationwide on Wednesday.
