Club History
Cricklade Town FC were formed in 1897 playing Sunday Football at the local primary school. Having played a lot of the early years in the Sunday Leagues, Cirencester & District League and Swindon & District League, Cricklade moved into the Wiltshire League in the early 1980’s joining Wiltshire County League Division 4 in Season 1980-81.
After thirteen seasons of generally finishing towards the bottom end of the table Season 1992-93 saw them finish 3rd out of 17 teams and gain promotion to Division 3 of the County League. That first season at the higher level was relatively successful as they built on the momentum of their promotion campaign to finish in 5th place in their inaugural season. Their second season in Division 3 was not quite so successful as they finished in 14th place but they responded well the following season to finish runners-up to Chiseldon and gain promotion to Division 2 for Season 1997-98. They were to spend just one season in Division 2 as they achieved promotion to the Premier Division at the first attempt finishing just one point behind champions Melksham Town Reserves and thirteen points ahead of 3rd placed GPS. They also made the Addkey Senior Cup final for the first time, eventually losing to Shrewton United in the final.
Cricklade very quickly adapted to life in the Premier Division with top three finishes in each of their first three seasons, as well as making the cup final in all three seasons. After two final defeats they finally lifted the Addkey Senior Cup in 1999-2000 defeating Raychem in the final. After two 3rd place finishes, Season 2000-01 saw them lift their one and only Wiltshire League title as they finished a point ahead of runners-up Shrewton United. They also retained the Addkey Senior Cup beating Devizes Town Reserves in the final. After a run of successful seasons, the side broke after they were denied promotion to the Hellenic League due to ground grading criteria and the following season saw them finish bottom of the Premier Division. However, they rebuilt and two seasons of gradual improvement in terms of league placings saw them go into the 2004-05 season determined to once again have a go at achieving promotion having carried on work at the ground to meet the ground grading requirements for entry to the Hellenic League. A 3rd place finish in Season 2004-05 was enough to see them elevated to the Hellenic League, Division One West.
Cricklade Town were to spend eight seasons in the Hellenic League Division One West where the highest position they achieved was 7th in both Seasons 2010-11 and 2012-13. Season 2012-13 was in fact to be their last season in the Hellenic League as on the eve of the 2013-14 Season Chairman Alisdair Ross revealed that the 116-year existence of the Stones Lane side had come to an end. The first team were due to open their Division One West campaign against visitors Lydney that coming Saturday, but the game never went ahead. With Ross stepping down as chairman and club secretary the club had been unable to find people to step up and take on the various roles and tasks that would be required for the club to continue at the Step 6 level.

The club remained dormant for two further seasons before reforming in the Wiltshire Senior League Premier Division in Season 2016-17. Under manager Albert Dearing they had two successful seasons finishing 6th in their first season back before following that up with a 3rd place finish and Fountain Trophies Cup final appearance, where they lost narrowly to Melksham Town Reserves. Season 2018-19 saw them drop down to 8th place.
The two Covid impacted seasons saw the side managed by Craig Kent and in both seasons the side sat in mid-table at the time the season's were curtailed. Kent's departure to manage Melksham Town Reserves saw Cricklade forced to drop out of the Wiltshire Senior League, joining one of the Hellenic League Division 2's. The side were to have a torrid season finishing bottom of the table with just one win all season. Another change of league saw them playing in the Swindon & District League in Season 2022-23 and the side were to have a much better season finishing in fifth place.
With the expansion of the WIltshire Senior League Division One, Cricklade Town returned to the Wiltshire Senior League for Season 2023-24, securing a mid-table finish on their return to the league.
Season 2024-25 under manager Mani Roper was to prove to be a hugely successful season with Cricklade Town securing a unique treble of Wiltshire Junior Cup, the Fountain Trophies Cup and the League Division One title. The first trophy secured was the County Cup, Cricklade edging a close game against Laverstock & Ford Reserves from the Hampshire Combination & Development League at the Gerard Buxton Sports Ground. Cricklade went two up before Laverstock & Ford pulled one back late on to cause a few anxious moments, but Cricklade saw out the closing stages to lift the cup for a second time, the one previous win had come way back in Season 1967-68 when they had defeated Stockton & Codford in the final. Cricklade had led Division One right from the off registering some big victories in the early stages of the season and eventually secured the league title on the final day of the league season with a win over Shrivenham Development although in reality , given their much superior goal difference, they would have won the title even if they had lost that final game. In the end a much closer title race that had looked earlier in the season with Cricklade finishing three points clear of runners-up Devizes Town Reserves. The third leg of the treble was secured with victory on penalties in the Fountain Trophies Cup against Bemerton Heath Harlequins. Trailing 2-1 with the game moving into the final minute a late equaliser meant penalties were needed to decide matters with Cricklade keeper Will Gage proving the Cricklade hero with a series of penalty saves to ensure it was Cricklade who lifted the cup for a third time.
