Ryan Withers scored a hat-trick as a dominant performance from Royal Wootton Bassett Town Development sealed a comfortable 6-1 victory against Wiltshire League newcomers Bassett Bulldogs. Bassett were fast out of the gates against the Bulldogs, gaining an early 2-0 advantage as Withers and Ryan Rawlins struck. While a Jason Hudson goal pegged the hosts back, they restored their two-goal lead going into half time as Withers grabbed his second, producing a quality finish with the outside of his foot. His hat trick was completed shortly after the restart before Josh Coombe got in on the act for Bassett's fifth. The rout was completed late on as substitute Rich Clark smashed home a penalty.

Week 7 - Saturday 23 September 2017
It was a good day all-round for leaders Cricklade Town as they hit Marlborough Town for six on their own patch. They then learnt that 2nd place Wroughton had lost to Melksham Town Reserves meaning they had opened up a four-point gap at the top of the table. Star of the show was Devan Bryan who fired a hat-trick for the second consecutive game to take his total to 16 for the season. Matt Bennett also bagged a brace for Cricklade with Tom Price getting the other in the comprehensive 6-0 win.

Wroughton were not at their best for the visit of high-scoring Melksham Town Reserves and lost by the odd goal in a 7-goal match. Sam Long, Tom Dingle and Tyler Wilkinson on target for Wroughton and for once Callum Demkiv took a back seat in the scoring stakes for Melksham as Zac Hillier led the way with two goals, Demkiv scoring once and Luke Ballinger with the other Melksham goal. That is now four wins in a row for Melksham and seven in eight as they move 3rd in the table, four points behind leaders Cricklade but with two games in hand. Wroughton slipped down to 4th place.

Level on points with Melksham but 2nd on goal difference are another form side Kintbury Rangers. Two goals from Luke Johnson and one from Charlie Allsop gave them a 3-0 lead in the first half at Corsham but Corsham Town Reserves hit back with two goals of their own through Matty Legg and James Gardner to make it 3-2 at the break. Three unanswered goals in the second period, two more from Johnson and one from Fabio Pinto gave Kintbury an excellent 6-2 win, improving their goal difference in the process. Like Melksham they also have two games in hand on leaders Cricklade Town.

The weekend’s action had actually got under way on Friday night under lights at Westbury United. With both sides First teams in FA Vase action the next day Westbury United and Malmesbury Victoria Development brought forward their game to the Friday night and were rewarded with an entertaining match that saw the home side edge it 5-2 to the double over the young Malmesbury side this season. Two first half penalties from Ferris Lamrabet set Westbury on their way and further goals from Sean Brereton, Connor McKay and Joe Maloney completed the scoring for the home side. Ollie Evans and Gareth Jones got the Malmesbury goals. Judging by the comments on Twitter from both sides, Friday night under the lights had been a success so perhaps the staging of games on a Friday night will be repeated later in the season. The result temporarily lifted Westbury into 3rd place but they dropped back down to 5th after the wins for Kintbury and Melksham.

Shrewton United are another form side as they hit five without reply at home to Royal Wootton Bassett Town Development to make it three wins on the bounce and moved above their opponents in the table as a result. Scorers for Shrewton were Dan Burton (2), Charlie Utterson, Jake Watson and Tyren Harrington.

Purton found their shooting boots this week away at Bassett Bulldogs hitting four without reply. After missing a host of chances the previous week in their narrow 1-0 win over Trowbridge, they did not leave the result in doubt this week, man of the match Ben Brown scored one for Purton at Beversbrook with Ollie Hawkins, Mani Mesas and Taylor Aitken getting the other Purton goals in their 4-0 win. Purton moved up to 8th in the table as a result.

The final result of the weekend saw Devizes Town Res pick up three points from their visit to Ludgershall Sports. Goals from Cullen Wylie and Ben Jenks secured the points for the visitors, 2-1 the final score here, sub Robbie Owen scoring for Ludgershall.

Week 7 Midweek - Wednesday 27 September 2017
After this week’s games in the U18 Division two teams have 100% records after the opening round of games. Melksham Town sit top of the table with three wins from their first three games. Their latest triumph came at home against Bradford Town where a Rhys Talmarsh hat-trick, which took his total for the season into double figures already, saw them on their way to a 7-0 win. Other scorers on the night were George Bendle (2), Zac Hillier and Jack Baker. Melksham are not only scoring lots of goals but they have yet to concede a goal in the three games to date.

Chippenham Town also have won all their games after they defeated New College 5-1 on their own ground on Thursday evening. Two goals for Aaron Witchell and one a piece for Serkan Kilic, Caine Bradbury and Jack Sterling left them three points behind Melksham with a game in hand.

The other game played on Wednesday evening saw Calne Town make it two wins in three with a 3-0 home win over Laverstock & Ford.

Week 8 - Saturday 30 September 2017
For the second week running leaders Cricklade Town hit their opponents for six and kept a clean sheet at the other end. Their victims this week were Pewsey Vale Development who suffered their biggest defeat in what has been an improved campaign so far this season. The Cricklade player doing the damage was the experienced Matty Bennett who helped himself to four goals. Top scorer Devan Bryan added to his total for the season with Reece Gilliver also getting on the score sheet. The win kept Cricklade four points clear at the top of the table.

Kintbury Rangers stay second after a hard earnt 4-1 success over Royal Wootton Bassett Town Development. Two goals up at half time, Kintbury increased their lead before Ryan Withers got Royal Wootton Bassett back into the game but a fourth for the home side wrapped up the points and kept the pressure on leaders Cricklade. Kintbury’s scorers were Luke Johnson, Shaun Thorp, Liam Thorne and Fabio Pinto. Royal Wootton Bassett Town dropped a place in the table as a result of this defeat and other results going against them.

Melksham Town Res moved into joint 2nd spot level with Kintbury on goal difference after a comprehensive away win at Bassett Bulldogs. Melksham hit 12 goals without reply to make it 44 in their first 9 league games. Jake Sainsbury and Dan Sibley both helped themselves to hat-tricks, leading scorer Callum Demkiv and Shaun Benison both scored twice and Tom Jones and Will Stead got the other Melksham goals in the emphatic win. Hopefully the Bulldogs will rally themselves ahead of another tough fixture next week when they meet another free scoring side in Kintbury.

Wroughton returned to winning ways with an excellent 3-0 home win over an in-form Shrewton United side. Two goals from Shane Hibbert and a Tom Dingle strike ensured the three points for last season’s champions who remain in fourth spot in the table.

Westbury United dropped points and lost ground on the leading four sides but stay in 5th place as they were held 2-2 at Ludgershall Sports. On target for Westbury were Ferris Lamrabet and Conner Mackay, Murat Kvrt with both Ludgershall goals. The point for Ludgershall helped them climb up one place in the league table.

Purton are slowly climbing the table and the anticipated close encounter with Corsham Town Res proved to be just that as a solitary goal from Chris Avery mid-way through the second half was all that separated the two sides.

There was another close game at Devizes where a single goal was enough to give Devizes Town Res the three points at home to Malmesbury Victoria Development. Whilst Devizes are the 2nd lowest scorers in the division they are now unbeaten in their last 4 games and have won two on the bounce and moved up into 10th place in the table.

The final game of the day saw Bremhill and Trowbridge Town share 4 goals and the points. Not for the first time this season the young Bremhiill side conceded a very late equaliser to deny them that elusive first win of the season. Goal scorers for Bremhill were Arnold N’Cube and Edidiong Essien. Trowbridge Town missed a penalty in this one for the second consecutive game but did find the net through Craig Sheppard and Natti Morgan and the point gained lifted them one place in the table.

The big match of the day was at the Weir Field where the home side and reigning champions Wroughton entertained league leaders Cricklade Town. In a game between two of the favourites for the title Wroughton closed the gap at the top to just two points with an excellent 4-2 win. Recent signing Dave Coleman (pictured above) scored twice with leading scorer Shane Hibbert and Tyler Wilkinson adding the other goals. On target for Cricklade were Devan Bryan with his 18th of the season and Reece Gilliver.

Melksham Town Res and Kintbury Rangers remain two points back from Wroughton but with both in cup action this weekend they now have three games in hand on the leading two. It all bodes well for an entertaining title race this season in the Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League.

Shrewton United moved up to 5th with a comeback win away at Bremhill. Leading 1-0 they then conceded three goals to the young Bremhill side scored by Zak Mitchell, Alex Pippard and George Lance and then went down to 10 men. Shrewton then staged a remarkable comeback scoring three unanswered goals in the final 15 minutes to take the three points. Heartbreak for the young Bremhill side who are making a habit of conceding late on to lose games they looked like winning. Shrewton had leading scorer Dan Burton to thank for the comeback win as he scored twice taking his total for the season into double figures, with Josh Somerton and Jesse Walters scoring the other two Shrewton goals.

Purton consolidated 7th position in the table with a hard-fought home win over Pewsey Vale Development. George Drewitt scored the opening Purton goal before being sent-off meaning Purton played the last 15 minutes with 10 men. With a draw looking likely Scott Walduck scored a winner for Purton with a long-range effort to give the Red House side a 2-1 win and all three points.

Royal Wootton Bassett Town Development continued their good form at the Gerard Buxton Sports Ground with a comeback 2-1 win against Devizes Town Reserves. On target for Royal Wootton Bassett Town were Rich Clark and Joe Miller. This win means that five of their six victories to date have come at home.

The final two league games of the day saw just one goal scored, that honour going to Marlborough Town who won 1-0 away at Malmesbury Victoria Development, Valentin Rascanescu with the only goal of the game.  The other game between Trowbridge Town and Ludgershall Sports saw defences on top as the game finished 0-0.

The Fountain Trophies Senior Cup got underway this weekend with games in both the Preliminary Round and the First Round. In the Preliminary Round tie, Melksham Town Res, fielding a number of players from their successful Under 18 side, won 2-0 away at Corsham Town Reserves and will now play Ludgershall Sports in Round 1. Scorers for Melksham were Jake Sainsbury and Zach Hillier.

Kintbury Rangers are the first side through to Round 2 of the competition with a comfortable 9-0 away win at Bassett Bulldogs. Leading the way with hat-tricks were Charlie Allsop and Fabio Pinto, who both moved into double figures for the season as a result, Shaun Thorp, James Mandry and Alex Smith with the other Kintbury goals.

Two games were played this week in the Under 18 Floodlight Division and both result in big wins. Chippenham Town maintained their 100% record and drew level on points with leaders Melksham town following a 6-0 away win at Laverstock & Ford. Two goals from Jack Pearson and one a piece for Serkan Killic, Caine Bradbury and Ethan Gilson-Clarke did the damage.

Also joining Melksham town and Chippenham Town at the top of the table on 9 points are Calne Town who recorded their 3rd win of the season in emphatic style hitting 15 goals without reply at home to Bradford Town. Bradford Town were unable to field a full team but those that did play kept going to the end despite the heavy defeat.

The scheduled fixture between Melksham Town and New college Swindon was postponed. Melksham remain top on goal difference.

Week 10 - Saturday 14 October 2017
There are new league leaders in the Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League tonight as Wroughton, 3-2 home winners over Corsham Town Reserves, took over at the top from Cricklade Town. Goals from Jamie McLaughlin, Craig Bowden and Tyler Wilkinson secured the vital three points for Wroughton which took them to the summit.

Melksham Town Reserves are just two points adrift of Wroughton but have 3 games in hand over the leaders. Saturday saw them win for the 6th consecutive league game and 7th match in all competitions as they hit Marlborough Town for six at their home ground. Two goals from young striker Rhys Talmash plus further goals from Ryan Bole, Emilio Menghini, Dan Sibley and an own goal gave Melksham the comfortable 6-0 victory.

Congratulations to Malmesbury Victoria Development who ended a recent run of defeats with a 3-2 away win at Ludgershall Sports, never an easy place to come away with all three points. On target for Malmesbury were Gareth Davies, Joe Tranter and Lewis Thomas.

Well done also to Bassett Bulldogs, another side to end a run of tough defeats by holding an in-form Devizes Town side to a 2-2 draw ahead of a tough looking Wiltshire Senior Cup fixture this week against Steve Claridge’s Salisbury. Craig Hunt put the Bulldogs in front but Devizes Town equalised. Jason Hudson restored the Bulldogs lead before Devizes scored their second to share the points. The Bulldogs had further chances to win the match but can be satisfied with their point against a side who have secured some good results in recent weeks. On target for Devizes Town Reserves were Joe Merrit and Ben Jenks.

Trowbridge Town are fast becoming the division’s draw specialists as they again shared the points, drawing 1-1 with Pewsey Vale Development. Natti Morgan hit his 3rd of the season for Trowbridge.

The league match between Westbury United Res and previous leaders Cricklade Town was postponed.

Mixed set of results in the various County Cup competitions this weekend but two excellent performances from our sides against higher league opposition. Congratulations go to Kintbury Rangers in the Berks & Bucks Senior Trophy as they defeated Uhlsport Hellenic League Division 1 East side Milton United 3-2 on their own ground thanks to a hat-trick from top scorer Charlie Allsop, Joe Morgan and Callum Stewart netting for Milton. Despite a lot of late pressure from the Hellenic side Kintbury held on to make it through to the 3rd Round.

It looked like extra time was on the cards at the Red House with Purton holding Sydenhams Wessex League side Amesbury Town 1-1 but a winner with the last kick of the game saw Amesbury through to the next round. Chris Avery had put Purton in front before goals from Luke Greenway and Matt Sherfield put Amesbury into the next round. Best wishes to all our other sides who have midweek fixtures this coming week in this prestigious competition.

Week 10 Midweek - Thursday 19 October 2017
Headline makers from the Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League in the First Round of the 2017-18 Wiltshire Senior Cup are the young Bremhill side. Yet to win a game in the league and currently propping up the league table, they defied the odds on Tuesday evening to cause the shock of the First Round when they defeated Toolstation Western League side Devizes Town 3-1 after extra-time on their own ground. Leading scorer Alex Pippard, Alfie Mahon and Edward Cooke with the Bremhill goals.

Another side from the league who were mighty close to causing another upset were league leaders Wroughton who were away at Sydenhams Wessex League Division 1 leaders Laverstock & Ford. In a seven-goal thriller Wroughton led by 3 goals to 2 as the game went into its final 10 minutes, Laverstock & Ford equalised 6 minutes from time and then scored a penalty 2 minutes later to win the tie and break Wroughton hearts. Shane Hibbert was the star of the show for Wroughton firing a hat-trick to give them that 3-2 lead but unfortunately it was not to be.

The only other side from the league to join Bremhill in the Second Round are Trowbridge Town who had a bye in the First Round. All our other sides were unable to cause the necessary upsets against higher league opposition. Second placed Cricklade Town went behind to a Sam Collier goal early on at Royal Wootton Bassett Town but leading scorer Devan Bryan got them back on level terms by half time. However, 3 unanswered second half goals from former Cricklade player Gio Wrona, Adam Corcoran and Aaron Maximen ensured Royal Wootton Bassett Town avoided a defeat to a side 2 divisions below them.

No shock at Salisbury where Bassett Bulldogs were well beaten by Step 4 side Salisbury, 13-0 the final score here. On target for Steve Claridge’s men were Stuart Green 4, Claudio Herbert 3, Eddie Perrett 3, Callum Brockway, Lewis Benson and an own goal.  Whilst suffering a heavy defeat, judging by the Twitter feed and the Salisbury match report the Bulldog players and fans enjoyed their big evening out.

Marlborough Town lost 4-0 away at Toolstation Western League Division One leaders Westbury United whilst Shrewton United were beaten 7-0 at home by Step 2 side Chippenham Town. Josh Smile fired a hat-trick for Chippenham Town and Jordan Ricketts and Will Richards both bagged a brace.

Ludgershall Sports were unable to raise a side for their visit to Swindon Supermarine with the tie being awarded to the current cup holders and Step 4 side.

Week 11 - Saturday 21 October 2017
After their tremendous efforts in midweek in the Wiltshire Senior Cup, when they nearly caused a surprise against Sydenham’s Wessex League Division 1 leaders Laverstock & Ford, leaders Wroughton slipped up in the title race on their return to Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League action. At home to a Royal Wootton Bassett Town Development side which has up to now been impressive on their own pitch at the Gerard Buxton Ground but struggled on their travels, the leaders were involved in a 7 goal game which saw the visitors from Bassett edge it by the odd goal thanks to strikes from Logan Cassidy (2), Aaron Stevens (pictured above) and Jacob Marsh. Consolation goals for Wroughton coming through Dave Coleman (2) and Craig Bowden. The win lifted Bassett one place in the table above Purton whose game with Shrewton was postponed. Wroughton slipped to 3rd due to results elsewhere.

Cricklade Town took advantage of the Wroughton defeat to move back top of the table courtesy of a 3-2 home win over one of the other title contenders Kintbury Rangers. The win came about despite Cricklade being reduced to 10 men. Charlie Allsop put Kintbury ahead on 6 minutes before Cricklade scored twice to take the lead. An equaliser from Liam Thorne on 65 minutes for Kintbury and with the home side having gone a man down the visitors must have been hopeful of all three points. However, it was the home side who scored the winner to move back top of the table. Cricklade’s goals came from Jamie Sheppard (2) and top scorer Devan Bryan.

Melksham Town Reserves moved up into second place with an impressive 6-1 win away at Trowbridge. In Rhys Talmarsh they seem to have found a ready-made replacement for Callum Demkiv as the Under 18 striker hit 4 goals in the win over Trowbridge. The other Melksham goals came from Tom Jones and Emilio Menghini, Sean Horobin with the consolation goal for Trowbridge.

After their midweek heroics in the Wiltshire Senior Cup, bottom of the table Bremhill had been hoping to secure that first elusive league win of the season. Despite scoring three through Alfie Presley (2) and Kyle Pogue-Elms, the home side Ludgershall hit six of their own to take the points and move up to 9th place in the table.

Goals from Adam Mitchell and Aaron Mason gave Corsham Town Reserves the points away at Pewsey Vale Development. The win lifted Corsham up into 10th place in the table.

In the other league game played Marlborough Town returned from their trip to Devizes Town with all three points following a 3-0 win thanks to goals from Aaron Presley, Christopher Deane and Harry Etheridge.

In the Fountain Trophies Senior Cup Westbury United Reserves progressed to the Second Round following a 2-1 home win over Malmesbury Victoria Development.

Week 12 - Saturday 28 October 2017
The top game in the Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League saw 4th placed Kintbury Rangers travel to 5th placed Shrewton United and for the second consecutive week Kintbury were on the wrong end of a 3-2 score line against one of the leading sides. Shrewton’s win showed that they are certainly going to be involved in this season’s title race. Fabio Pinto gave Kintbury the lead on 16 minutes but Shrewton equalised just before half time to make it honours even at the break. Shrewton wrapped up the points with two second half goals with the winner coming from Jake Watson. The two earlier goals for Shrewton were scored by Dean Smith with a penalty and a back-post header by Nathan Jones from a Ronan Clancy cross. Fabio Pinto scored a second for Kintbury, making it 12 for the season so far for the Kintbury striker. The two sides swapped positions in the table as a result of the Shrewton win with United moving to within 6 points of leaders Cricklade Town.

Royal Wootton Bassett Town Development moved up a place in the table to 6th following a 4-0 away success in the “Bassett derby”, doing the double over Bassett Bulldogs in the process. Goals from Harrison Gough, George Staten, Josh Bolton and a Jamie Richards free kick did the damage for Royal Wootton Bassett Town.

In the other league game played it was honours even in the game between Malmesbury Victoria Development and Bremhill. Bremhill are still looking for that elusive first league win but took a share of the points in a 2-2 draw thanks to goals from Serkan Killic and Alfie Mahon and will no doubt be pleased with picking up a point away from home. Bremhill however remain at the foot of the table and Malmesbury Victoria Development are just two places above them. Pleasing to note that the game attracted a crowd of 83 which many sides higher up in the pyramid would be very happy to get.

Three games were played in the Fountain Trophies Cup First Round on Saturday. Games involving both Devizes Town Reserves and Trowbridge Town this season have generally been tight low scoring affairs and so it proved when the two sides met on Saturday. It took until the 90th minute for the deadlock to be broken with Sam Dodds getting the all-important goal which sees Devizes Town Reserves through to the next round.

When Marlborough Town and Wroughton met earlier in the season in the league it had finished 3-3 but on Saturday the current holders of the Fountain Trophies Cup showed they intend to hold onto the trophy with a comfortable 5-2 win at Marlborough. Shane Hibbert hit four for Wroughton, Dane Moulden the other scorer. Josh Connolly and Christopher Deane with the Marlborough goals.

Pewsey Vale Development extracted revenge for their league defeat a couple of weeks ago at Purton by scoring the winner through Tom Pinder with the last kick of the game to progress through to the Second Round. The other two goals for Pewsey Vale coming from Craig Simmons and Taylor Edwards. Purton’s goals were scored by Jack Duckers and Steven Keir.

Week 12 Midweek - Thursday 2 November 2017
The Under 18 Division of the Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League returned to action this week and all three teams at the top of the table secured victories leaving a three-way tie at the top of the table.

Melksham Town U18’s continue to lead the way on goal difference following a 2-0 home win over New College Swindon. Eddie Swain (pictured above) put Melksham on the way and leading scorer Rhys Talmarsh added a second to secure the points. Melksham Town have yet to concede a goal in their four matches to date.

Calne Town have lost just once this season, that defeat coming against Melksham Town. This week a 3-0 away win at Bradford Town means they are level on points with Melksham having played one game more.

The third side on twelve points at the top are Chippenham Town who were made to work very hard for their latest win by Laverstock & Ford. Trailing 4-2 at one point during the second half, three Chippenham goals, including a winner in the dying moments from Alfie Presley ensured Chippenham Town maintained their own 100% record. The other Chippenham scorers were Jack Pearson with a hat-trick and Serkan Killic.

The loss of top scorer Callum Demkiv to Corsham Town has had little impact on Melksham Town Reserves who became the new leaders of the Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League following a 4-1 away win at Corsham Town Reserves. With Cricklade Town’s game with Westbury United Reserves being postponed Melksham took full advantage of Cricklade’s inactivity to go two points clear of the previous leaders. Two goals from William Stead plus strikes from Shaun Benison and Rhys Talmarsh taking Melksham to the top of the table.

Wroughton also moved above Cricklade into second spot following a 3-2 home success over Ludgershall Sports but they were made to work hard for the three points. Wroughton led 2-0 at one stage but allowed Ludgershall back into the game with two goals of their own. It took a winning goal in injury time from the penalty spot to ensure Wroughton secured the points. On target for Wroughton were Shane Hibbert with two, taking his total to 15 for the season, and Jamie McLaughlin, David Cotter and Nathan Strong with the Ludgershall goals.

Shrewton United remain 4th and reinforced their title contender credentials with a comfortable 4-0 home win over Trowbridge Town who are now without a win in seven. Shrewton’s third win on the bounce came courtesy of two goals from Charlie Utterson, taking him to seven for the season, Dean Smith and Dom Jackson.

Royal Wootton Bassett Town Development side made it four wins in a row following a narrow 3-2 away win at Pewsey Vale Development. Royal Wootton Bassett led 2-0 thanks to goals from Ryan Withers and Logan Cassidy and missed a host of chances to put the game beyond Pewsey. However, the young Pewsey side kept going and made Bassett pay for their wastefulness in front of goal by getting themselves back into the game with two goals of their own scored by Harvey Rutherford and Taylor Edwards. Just as it looked as the points would be shared, Royal Wootton Bassett Town scored a controversial winner through Jamie Richards, the goal coming after a possible hand ball in the build-up that went unseen by the officials. The win lifted Royal Wootton Bassett into 5th place in the table.

Devizes Town Reserves climbed one place in the table following an excellent 2-0 away win at Purton thanks to goals from Liam Mortimer and Sam Dodds.

Another side moving up the table were Marlborough Town after a 5-1 home success over Bassett Bulldogs. 3-0 down just after half time the Bulldogs pulled a goal back in unusual circumstances with Jason Hudson scoring direct from a corner, but it was not Bassett’s day as Marlborough scored twice more to make certain of the points. Scorers for Marlborough Town were Aaron Presley with two, Christopher Deane from the penalty spot, Max Etheridge and Luke Connolly.

Two games were played this week in the Under 18 Division of the Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League and Melksham Town maintained their 100% record and also avoided conceding that first goal of the season following a 3-0 home win over Laverstock & Ford. Rhys Talmarsh got them on the way and two further goals from George Bendle secured the fifth consecutive win of the season.

In the other game played between New College Swindon and Bradford Town it was honours even and a useful point to each side as they drew 2-2.

Week 14 - Saturday 11 November 2017
Action in the Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League kicked-off this weekend on Friday night under the lights at Malmesbury Victoria. In front of a bumper crowd of 107 the young Malmesbury side turned in their best performance of the season to hammer a Royal Wootton Bassett Town Development side who, until Friday had been in a rich vein of form. The young Malmesbury side turned on the style scoring some superb individual strikes and also some well worked team goals. They went 1-0 in front when they broke from midfield and a cross come shot from wide on the right wing from Dan Scull sailed over the Bassett keeper to lodge in the very top corner of the net to make it 1-0 to the home side. Soon after it was 2-0 as David Biggs broke free from his markers to score from the edge of the area. Royal Wootton Bassett pulled one back when Harrison Gough headed in from a corner and looked like it was game on. Royal Wootton Bassett were creating more chances than the home side, but the end product was missing as they either shot weakly, tried to overplay and run the ball into the net or were denied by some fine keeping by Travis Wood in the Malmesbury goal. At the other end the contrast in clinical finishing was to be seen as Malmesbury seemed to score with every attack and extended their lead with further goals from Biggs and Scull to make it 4-1 just before half-time. With the clock showing a good five minutes over the normal 45 there was still time for Royal Wootton Bassett to pull one back with Harrison Gough repeating his first goal with a header from another corner. 4-2 at the break to the home side and the potential for a lot more goals in the second half.

However, the goal rush died down in the second period but the best goal of the night did come after the restart and it again went to the home side. Just when Royal Wootton Bassett thought they had cleared their lines to the half way line Scull fired an unstoppable shot from just in the Bassett half which sailed into the top corner of the net to send the home crowd wild and wrap up the points for a buoyant Malmesbury side. To rub salt into the wounds George Stone added a further goal to make it 6-2 to Malmesbury. Royal Wootton Bassett Town continued to create chances of their own but unlike the home side they continued to lack the clinical edge and in the end were well beaten on the night.

Saturday saw just three games played due to waterlogged pitches, two in the league and one in the Fountain Trophies Cup. In the league, leaders Melksham Town Reserves took advantage of others inactivity to extend their lead at the top to four points with a narrow 1-0 away win at Ludgershall Sports thanks to a penalty scored by Will Stead. In the only other league game played, Corsham Town Reserves returned to winning ways with a 4-1 success away to Bassett Bulldogs. Two goals from Matt Purdy and one each for Aaron Masson and Ali Mayoh for Corsham in this one, top scorer Jason Hudson with the consolation goal for the Bulldogs taking his total to five for the season.

In the Fountain Trophies Cup, it was a tight affair as expected between Shrewton and Cricklade Town, two sides near the top of the league table. It was 0-0 at the break and the deadlock was finally broken on 75 minutes when Devan Bryan flicked the ball on for Jamie Sheppard to score his 10th of the season to put Cricklade into the next round.

All other games in the league were postponed due to waterlogged pitches.

The league title race has become a whole lot more interesting following the defeat of leaders Melksham Town Reserves at Shrewton United. Melksham went into the game having lost just once all season, that defeat coming way back in August when they had lost narrowly at Cricklade Town . Shrewton also came into the game unbeaten in their previous three league games and were looking to close the gap to the leaders. The league leaders looked like they would extend their lead at the top when they led 1-0 at half time but an equaliser from Jessie Walters brought Shrewton back into the game and Ronan Clancy added a second to give Shrewton the win and inflict that second defeat of the season on the leaders. Melksham however remain top of the table but their lead has been whittled down to just two points, whilst Shrewton remain 4th but are now just five points adrift of the leaders having played one game more.

Cricklade moved up into second place behind Melksham following a 4-1 home win over Devizes Town Reserves. Leading scorer Devan Bryan scored twice taking his total for the season to 22, a feat which saw him take over as the league’s leading scorer this season. The other Cricklade goals came courtesy of Craig Shand and Franco Michienzi. Wroughton were without a game and dropped to third.

Purton had a fine win at home against Westbury United Reserves. Imman Bains, making his debut for Purton, was the main architect of the victory scoring twice for his new club, Jack Duckers and Chris Avery with the other Purton goals.

Pewsey Vale Development returned to winning ways with a narrow 2-1 away success at Beversbrook against Bassett Bulldogs. Harvey Rutherford had given Pewsey the lead at the break but Adam Foskett equalised for Bassett Bulldogs. A late winner from Cameron MacKenzie sealed the victory for Pewsey and denied the Bulldogs a share of the points.

The other two league games saw wins for Ludgershall Sports and Marlborough Town. Ludgershall were 6-2 winners at home against Corsham Town Reserves, whilst Marlborough had a narrow 3-2 home success over Malmesbury Victoria Development. On target for Ludgershall in their win over Corsham were Lewis Pickernell with two, Nathan Strong, Paul Mowatt, Mike Owen and leading scorer Dave Cotter who took his total for the season to 9.

Whilst they still seek that first elusive league win, Bremhill are certainly specialising in the cup competitions this season. Having already knocked Devizes Town out of the Wiltshire Senior Cup on their own ground they secured another fine cup away win on Saturday, this time in the Fountain Trophies Cup, winning 4-2 at Royal Wootton Basset Town against the Royal Wootton Bassett Development side. Twice Bremhill led only to see Royal Wootton Bassett Town peg them back through goals from George Staten and Harrison Gough, but two further goals in the second half sealed the victory for the young Bremhill side. On target for Bremhill in this cup win were Alex Pippard, Jayden Papy, Edidiong Essien and an own goal. Bremhill will be home to Devizes Town Reserves in the Quarter-Finals.

In outside cup competitions it is congratulations to Kintbury Rangers as the Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League side defeated their Uhlsport Hellenic League Division One West opponents Letcombe in the Berks & Bucks County Cup. The score was 0-0 at the break but both sides scored to take the game into extra time. The tie remained level meaning penalties were needed to settle the game. Keeper Ross Thorne was then the hero for Kintbury as he saved three Letcombe penalties in the shoot-out which enabled Kintbury to win the penalty shoot-out 3-1 and make it through to the quarter-finals of the competition.

Talking of county cup competitions, the two remaining Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League sides in the Wiltshire Senior Cup are in action in midweek. On Tuesday Bremhill play host to Amesbury Town whilst on Wednesday evening Trowbridge Town make the trip to Royal Wootton Bassett Town looking to make it through to the last 8 in the competition, where the likes of Salisbury, Chippenham and Highworth Town are already through.

Week 15 Midweek - Tuesday 21 & Wednesday 22 November 2017
The two remaining Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League sides in the Wiltshire Senior Cup were both in Second Round action this week with mixed fortunes.

The young Bremhill side, struggling in the league and without a win to their name, were once again responsible for the shock of the round. Having already knocked Western League side Devizes Town out in the previous round, on Tuesday night they defeated Amesbury Town, a side from the Sydenhams Wessex league playing two tiers above Bremhill in the football pyramid. It was Kai Whitmore and Harry Rutty who scored the goals for Bremhill, with the winning goal from Rutty coming in injury time and continued Bremhill’s fine form in cup competitions this season.

On a night when the weather left a lot to be desired, Amesbury had taken an early lead on three minutes when Kieran Stephens fired home following good set up play by Jordan Matthews and Luke Greenway. Despite being under pressure for most of the first half Bremhill thought they had equalised when Alex Pippard headed home a cross, but he was adjudged to be in an offside position and it remained 1-0 at the break.  In the second half the rain that had been falling in the first period got heavier and the pitch became boggier making it difficult for both sides. Despite the deteriorating conditions Bremhill equalised on 64 minutes when Kai Whitmore raced clear of the defence, his initial effort being saved by the keeper but he was there to turn in the rebound for a deserved equaliser. Both sides had opportunities to get in front but it was Bremhill, a side who ironically have suffered a number of costly late goals against them this season  in the league, who won the tie when in the third minute of added time a free kick by George Lance was met by Zak Mitchell and the ball fell for Harry Rutty to score and send the home team into raptures.

The other side from the league in Second Round action were Trowbridge Town who fell to a 4-0 defeat away at Royal Wootton Bassett Town on Wednesday night. Playing with a fierce wind behind their back in the first half Trowbridge put in a stubborn defensive performance to restrict their opponents, who are also two levels higher in the pyramid, to a single goal lead at half time. That opening goal came in the twelfth minute courtesy of Lewis Waldon. With the wind behind them in the second half it didn't take the home side long after the restart to double their lead as Steve Yeardley confidently stroked home from the penalty spot. Rory Sproule then added a third with quarter of an hour remaining before completing his brace in the closing stages to complete the scoring. A disappointing result on the night for Trowbridge but a spirited performance against higher league opposition.

Can the Bremhill Wiltshire Senior Cup giant killing continue in Round 3? Alongside them in the last eight of this prestigious competition, which dates back to 1886-87, will be some of the big names in Wiltshire football. Joining Bremhill in the draw will be Hellenic League sides Highworth Town and Royal Wootton Bassett Town, Wessex League Premier Division outfit Bemerton Heath Harlequins, Southern League Salisbury and National League South side Chippenham Town and two teams from Western League Division One - Westbury United and Chippenham Park.

All the Second Round results are shown below.

Just one game was played in the Under 18 Division of the Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League in midweek, but it was a massive game between the two sides with 100% records, so something had to give. Melksham went into the game not having conceded a goal in their games to date but that record, along with their 100% record went as Chippenham ran out 2-0 winners. Aaron Witchell and Harvey Flippance with the goals that ensured the win and Chippenham’s 100% record remained intact.

Week 16 - Saturday 25 November 2017
On a day when two games fell victim to the weather, including leaders Melksham Town Reserves scheduled trip to Pewsey Vale Development, Cricklade Town took full advantage of Melksham’s inactivity to return to the top of the table. A hat-trick form the experienced Matty Bennett did the damage in the 3-1 home win over Corsham Town Reserves, Bennett taking his total to 12 for the season in the process.

Third place Wroughton slipped up going down 2-1 at home to Marlborough Town. The two sides had drawn 3-3 earlier in the season and Marlborough are proving to be a bit of a bogey side for Wroughton this season. Marlborough had Valentin Rascanescu to thank for the win as he scored both of their goals, the winner coming five minutes from time, Shane Hibbert netted the consolation goal, his 16th of the season, for Wroughton who slipped to fourth place in the table whilst Marlborough’s win lifted them up into ninth place.

Shrewton went third in the table as they won their fifth league game in a row, hitting Devizes Town Reserves for six on their own ground. Lee Weeks bagged a brace and there were further goals for Dan Burton, Nathan Osgood, Jesse Walters and Conor Cutler in the 6-2 win. Devizes scorers were Jamie Hall and Adam Bewley.

Royal Wootton Bassett Town Development stay in fifth place after a thoroughly entertaining 3-3 draw at the Gerard Buxton Ground against visitors Westbury United Reserves. The visitors took an early lead when captain Martin Johnson fired home in the fourth minute from just outside the box, hitting an unstoppable shot into the bottom left hand corner of the net. Both sides created chances but it took a stroke of luck for the home side to get back on level terms when three minutes before the break Aaron Stevens shot from distance and his shot took a wicked deflection to give Dave Cardus in the Westbury goal no chance. There was still time for another goal before the break as a cross from the left from Jacob Marsh was met perfectly by the head of Ryan Withers to make it 2-1 to Royal Wootton Bassett. Westbury went straight up the other end and thought they had equalised on the stroke of half-time. A free kick from Otis Young was palmed out by the Bassett keeper to a Westbury striker who fired in only to be denied by an offside flag from the assistant referee. So, it ended 2-1 at the interval to the home side. However, it did not take long for Westbury to get back on level terms after the break, the impressive Otis Young firing home to make it 2-2. The home side went back in front with another bit of fortune when Westbury keeper spilt a shot from Jacob Marsh straight to the feet of Joe Miller who made no mistake to put Royal Wootton Bassett Town back in front. In continued to be end to end stuff and Westbury again got back on level terms when Ferris Lambaret volleyed in from a good cross into the Royal Wootton Bassett box. Otis Young and Martin Johnson both went close for the visitors in the closing stages, but the home side also had a couple of good chances of their own including a fine run from Ben Lodge who was only denied by an excellent defensive tackle. It ended honours even and a fair result in what had been a good match.

Kintbury Rangers were playing their first home game in a while mainly due to their county cup exploits and had not won in the league since back in September. Opponents Bremhill came into the game following their midweek cup giant killing in the Wiltshire Senior Cup looking to secure that first league win of the season. Unfortunately for them they are still searching for that elusive first victory as they were comfortably beaten in the end by a Kintbury side who put in a hardworking performance from start to finish to ensure all three points. Two goals from leading scorer Charlie Allsop and a header from Shaun Thorp gave Kintbury a 3-0 Kintbury a 3-0 half-time lead. Further second half goals from Liam Thorne and Fabio Pinto ensured the three points went to Kintbury but due to other results they remain sixth but have games in hand over the leading sides.

The final game of the day was the mid-table battle between Purton and Ludgershall Sports at the Red House where goals from George Drewitt and Jack Duckers gave Purton a 2-0 home win. The win meant Purton moved above Westbury in the table into seventh place.

Week 16 Midweek - Thursday 30 November 2017
Again there was just one game played in the Under 18 Division this week. Having lost for the first time this season last week, Melksham Town immediately bounced back securing a fine 4-1 away success at New College Swindon. Rhys Talmarsh put Melksham in front before they then had a player sent off. Despite going a man down two goals from Seth Wain made it 3-0 to Melksham before New College themselves had a player dismissed to even matters up. Rhys Talmarsh scored his second of the game to make it 4-0 before New College bagged a late consolation goal to make the final score 4-1. Melksham remained second in the table on goal difference behind leaders Chippenham Town having played one more game than the unbeaten leaders.

Week 17 - Saturday 2 December 2017
For the second week running Matt Bennett fired a hat-trick as leaders Cricklade Town hit near neighbours Purton for six, winning comfortably 6-1 to retain their lead at the top of the table. The other scorers for Cricklade were Recce Gilliver, top scorer Devan Bryan and Oliver Sly.

However, their lead at the top of the table remained just one point as second placed Melksham Town Reserves secured a narrow 1-0 home win over Corsham Town Reserves, Seth Wain, who also scored two in midweek for the Under 18 side, with the solitary goal that secured the three points. Whilst one point behind Cricklade, Melksham still have a game in hand.

Third placed Shrewton United lost ground on the two leaders when they went down 5-3 at Kintbury Rangers who gained revenge for their narrow defeat at Shrewton last month. First half goals from Charlie Allsop, Garth Franklin and Luke Johnson put Kintbury 3-1 up at the break. The two sides then shared four second half goals to leave the final score 5-3 in Kintburys favour, Charlie Allsop getting his second of the match and Shaun Thorp getting the other for Kintbury.

Biggest winners of the day were Westbury United Reserves who smashed eight goals past Pewsey Vale Development. Two goals each for Ferris Lamrabet and Martin Johnson, with George Bendle, Sean Brereton, Jordan Pinder and Joe Maloney also scoring in the 8-1 victory.

Both Bassett Bulldogs and Trowbridge Town went into their game on the back of a tough run of results, Bulldogs were without a win in thirteen games in all competitions whilst Trowbridge had not won in eight. It was Bassett Bulldogs who had the smiling faces come the end of the game as a solitary strike from Jason Hudson, his sixth of the season, was enough to give the Bulldogs their second win of the season. Despite the three points Bulldogs remain second from bottom but have closed the gap to Malmesbury Victoria Development to just two points.

Marlborough Town are the form team in the division as they won their fifth consecutive league game, defeating Bremhill 2-1 at home. Aaron Presley put them 1-0 up from the penalty spot and then headed a second to put Marlborough 2-0 in front. Bremhill got themselves back into the game when Serkan Killic netted ten minutes from time but Bremhill were unable to find the net again and Marlborough took the points to move up to 9th in the table.

Devizes Town had a good win at home against Ludgershall Sports. Ben Jenks put Devizes in front and they had lots of chances to extend their lead but just couldn’t put the ball in the net. They were made to pay for their wastefulness in front of goal when Ludgershall fired in an equaliser. However, they were not to be denied when Ben Jenks scored his second of the game ten minutes from time to secure all three points for the home side.

When they met a couple of weeks back under lights at Malmesbury there had been goals galore as Malmesbury Victoria Development ran out 6-2 winners against Royal Wootton Bassett Town Development but on Saturday the defences were on their game as neither side was able to find the net and the points were shared in a 0-0 draw. The closest either side came to scoring was when Royal Wootton Bassett Town were awarded a penalty but the penalty was missed.

Week 17 Midweek - Thursday 7 December 2017
The two games in the Under 18 Division both saw the two leading sides hit six goals and go nine points clear of third placed Calne Town in the process. Leaders Chippenham won 6-0 away at Calne Town to maintain leadership of the division on goal difference. Star of the show was Harvey Flippance who fired in four goals for the leaders.

Sam Townsend put Melksham Town in front in their game away to Bradford Town, but the home side equalised to make it 1-1. An own goal put Melksham back in front but once again Bradford Town got themselves back on level terms. Sam Townsend, with his second of the game, put Melksham back in front and this time there was no coming back for Bradford Town. Two goals from the prolific Rhys Talmarsh plus one from George Bendle saw Melksham to a fine 6-2 win. Melksham have just two games left to play now, away to both Calne Town and Chippenham Town, with the latter game very much looking like a title decider.

Week 18 - Saturday 9 December 2017
Big game of the day saw the leaders Cricklade Town play host to last season’s champions Wroughton. Cricklade were the form team in the division going into the game having won their previous five games. However, when the two sides had met at Wroughton earlier in the season it had finished 4-2 to Wroughton so the leaders knew they would be in for a tough game and so it proved. Leading scorer Devan Bryan put Cricklade in front with his 23rd of the season and it remained 1-0 at half time. In the second half Wroughton’s leading scorer Shane Hibbert also got amongst the goals when he fired in the equaliser. Just as it looked like the points would be shared, up popped captain Chris Flanagan to score the winner for Wroughton, completing a league double over Cricklade in the process. The win meant Wroughton moved back above Shrewton United in the table and to within five points of Cricklade who dropped to second following the defeat.

The new leaders of the division are Melksham Town Reserves. In recent weeks the goals have dried up for Melksham with their last three games being decided by a single goal, including last week’s 1-0 win over Corsham. On Saturday they well and truly re-found their shooting boots as they smashed eight past a Trowbridge side who are having a real tough period at the moment and are now without a win in ten games in all competitions. Earlier in the season Melksham had won 6-1 at Trowbridge and they went two goals better this time round in climbing back to the top of the table. Fielding a side which included a number of players from their successful Under 18 squad it was the youngsters who were amongst the goals, Seth Wain fired a hat-trick, Rhys Talmarsh scored twice, having also scored two in midweek for the Under 18’s, and there were also goals for Zac Hillier, Dan Watts and Jake Sainsbury. The win lifted Melksham two points clear at the top of the table having played one game less than their nearest rivals. With Cricklade, Wroughton and Kintbury Rangers still to play at home Melksham are very much now in the title driving seat.

Bassett Bulldogs met Kintbury Rangers for the third time this season with Kintbury having won 7-0 in the league in September and 9-0 in the cup back in October, but Bassett Bulldogs came into the game on a high having defeated Trowbridge Town last week in what was probably the best result in their short history. They certainly built on that impressive win and gave Kintbury a real tough game this time round and held their high-flying opponents until the closing stages of the game. However, late goals from Tom Head and Lewis Sopp, the latter scoring on his debut, were enough to give Kintbury all three points. The win saw them moving to within a point of fourth placed Shrewton United but vitally with three games in hand on the three teams immediately above them and two in hand on leaders Melksham. They too will have an important say in the eventual destination of the title this season.

Westbury United Reserves and Bremhill fought out a 1-1 draw at Westbury, Ferris Lamrabet for the home side and Caine Bradbury with the Bremhill goal. The point meant Bremhill closed the gap to Bassett Bulldogs but remain at the foot of the table ahead of Tuesday’s big Wiltshire Senior Cup quarter final against Bemerton Heath Harlequins from the Sydenham’s Wessex League Premier Division. Best wishes to the league’s sole surviving team in the FA’s prestigious competition on Tuesday night.

The scheduled games at Corsham, Ludgershall, Purton and Shrewton were all postponed due to frozen pitches.

Week 19 - Saturday 16 December 2017
The league went into its Christmas break with Melksham Town Reserves sat top of the table two points clear of second placed Cricklade Town. In a first half of the season which has seen Melksham bag 45 points and score 77 goals in the process, their latest points haul came away at Devizes Town Reserves thanks to a 6-1 win. Whilst Devizes sat in the bottom half of the table going into the game their goals against record was that of a top half team their problem this season has been scoring at the other end. On Saturday they conceded the biggest tally so far this season against the league leaders. On target for Melksham were Dan Sibley with two, Shaun Benison, Ethan Cox, James Eatough and Emilo Menghini. Ben Jenks with the consolation goal for Devizes.

Cricklade Town visited Malmesbury Victoria Development looking to get back to winning ways after going down to defending champions Wroughton the previous week and made no mistake this time round, hitting seven without reply to keep on Melksham’s heals. The scorers in the 7-0 win were Devan Bryan with four, taking his total for the season to twenty-eight, Tom McCulloch with two and Franco Michienzi.

The defending champions Wroughton, a week after beating Cricklade Town and getting themselves back into the title race, had a blow ahead of their game with Royal Wootton Bassett Town when they lost leading striker Shane Hibbert to Hellenic League side Highworth Town. Their opponents Royal Wootton Bassett Town game into the game in a bad run of form, not having won in four but, having already taken three points off Wroughton back in October, knowing that a potential double over one of the leading sides was on the cards if they could raise their game. Their home form has been good all season against the leading sides and, so it proved again as Josh Bolton hit a hat-trick in a 4-2 win. The other goal for Royal Wootton Bassett was scored by Joe Miller with Liam Griffiths and Tyler Wilkinson getting the consolation goals for Wroughton who also had two players sent-off for two bookable offences.

Prior to the game at Corsham Town Reserves, Westbury United had won just once on the road, whilst the home side had struggled at home with just one of their five victories before Saturday having come at Southbank. In a tight affair a solitary strike from Adam Pickford ensured a second away win of the season for Westbury. They remain in seventh place in the table three points behind Royal Wootton Bassett Town but with three games in hand.

The scheduled games at Bremhill, Purton, Shrewton and Trowbridge were all postponed due to frozen or waterlogged pitches.

Week 19 Midweek - Wednesday 20 December 2017
The Wiltshire Senior Cup dream is over for another year for the Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior sides. The last time a side from the league won the competition was way back in Season 2003-4 when Trowbridge Town defeated Corsham Town in the final. In the early years the cup often went to sides from the league but in recent seasons invariably the winner has come from either the Western, Hellenic or Wessex Leagues. However, with the addition of teams now from the National League South (in the case of Chippenham Town) and the Southern league (in the case of Swindon Supermarine and Salisbury) the odds of a side from the Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League winning the competition are now going to be even higher. That said the FA Cup is always at its most interesting when the non-league clubs are putting one over their professional breatharian from the Football League and the Wiltshire Senior Cup is a bit like that these days for teams from the Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League.

So it is hats off to the young Bremhill side who have this season brought some additional interest to this prestigious competition with their fine heroic run to the quarter finals. They defeated both Devizes Town from the Western league and Amesbury Town from the Wessex League along the way but were finally defeated on Tuesday evening when they lost 3-0 at home to Wessex League Premier Division Bemerton Heath Harlequins. A credible performance by the young side who will clearly have learnt a lot from the experience. They will be hoping that they can now turn their cup form into the league matches and secure that first league win of the season early in the New Year. All three goals for Bemerton were scored by Jake Rawkins.

In the other quarter final tie played this week a solitary own goal gave Southern league Salisbury a narrow 1-0 away win over Western League side Westbury United.

The previous week Highworth Town and Chippenham Town both progressed to the semi-finals. Highworth had Callum Parsons to thank for their win over Royal Wootton Bassett Town, with Parsons scoring all five goals. The two sides are scheduled to meet again on Boxing Day in the league and then again in January in the Hellenic League Floodlit Cup. In the Chippenham derby, the Town side from the National League South (Step 2) eventually overcome a spirited Chippenham Park side from the Western League Division One (Step 6) who had gone 1-0 in front. On target for Chippenham in their 3-1 win were Alex Ferguson with two and Andy Sandell.

All the Third-Round results to date are shown below.

Wiltshire Senior Cup Third Round

Week 20 - Saturday 6 January 2018
The race for the title in the Premier Division of the Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League is set to be an exciting one in 2018. The New Year kicked off with four league games and one Fountain Trophies Cup quarter-final tie surviving the weather.

Leaders Melksham Town Res kicked off the New Year with what on paper looked a tricky looking visit to Westbury United Res who sat in 7th place in the table. This was the first meeting between the two sides since December 2014 and Westbury certainly gave the leaders a tough work out but eventually Melksham prevailed to take all three points and open up a five-point gap at the top of the table. Neither side found the net in the first 45 minutes but an early goal from Emilio Menghini straight from the kick-off put the leaders in front. Youngster Rhys Talmarsh, who has proved an excellent replacement for the departed Callum Demkiv, extended the Melksham lead and whilst Sean Brereton pulled one back for the home side they were unable to find the elusive equaliser. 2-1 to Melksham the final score and a good day all round for the club as their First Team won in the FA Vase to make it through to the last 16 of this prestigious national competition. With Bradford Town also still in the competition there is the possibility of Wiltshire having two representatives in the last 16.

Shrewton United moved back up into third place in the table, above Kintbury Rangers, with a comfortable home win over Corsham Town Reserves. When the two sides had met earlier in the season Shrewton had just edged it 4-3 but it was much more comfortable this time round as goals from veteran Jesse Walters (2), Nathan Jones, Jake Watson and Connor Cutler gave Shrewton a 5-1 win.

One of the in-form teams in the division had been Marlborough Town, who went into their home fixture with Royal Wootton Bassett Town Development with just one defeat in their previous six games. Royal Wootton Bassett Town came into the game on the back of an excellent win over reigning champions Wroughton just before Christmas and their good form continued into the New Year as first half goals from top scorer Ryan Withers and Logan Cassidy gave them a 2-0 lead at the break. That was to be the end of the scoring as Royal Wootton Bassett Town kept a clean sheet in the second half to take all three points, moving up into 4th place in the table in the process.

The final league fixture of the day saw Pewsey Vale Development make the short trip to Ludgershall to play the Sports. Ahead of the game Ludgershall sat in 10th place in the table, four places above their opponents but Pewsey had taken a point when the two sides had met at the start of the season at Pewsey when the two sides had shared eight goals. It was another close game this weekend with Ludgershall edging it 2-1 to close the gap to Marlborough Town to just one point.

Finally, the big game of the day was in the Fountain Trophies Cup, where second placed Cricklade Town travelled to third placed Kintbury Rangers in the first quarter-final tie to be played. It was a meeting of two of the form sides in the league as Cricklade went into the game having lost just once in their previous seven games whilst Kintbury were unbeaten in their last four. It was also a tight affair when the two met in the league earlier in the season with Cricklade winning 3-2 that day and the game lived up to the pre-match expectations. Two goals from Charlie Allsop for Kintbury and one a piece from Matty Bennett and Devan Bryan saw the two sides level at 2-2 at the break. Unfortunately for Kintbury they had a man sent off in that first period which meant they would be up against it in the second half. However, the two sides again matched each other in that second period, despite Cricklade having the one-man advantage, Devan Bryan getting his second of the game and Charlie Allsop getting a hat-trick goal to send the game into extra time. Unfortunately for Kintbury, having to play for so long with just ten men eventually took its toll and Bryan added a further two goals in extra time. This took his total goals for the season to 32, a figure which easily makes him the top scorer in the league, and took Cricklade through to the semi-finals in the process.

The league games at Trowbridge and Wroughton, where Purton and Malmesbury Victoria Development were scheduled to be the respective visitors, were both postponed due to waterlogged pitches. The Fountain Trophies Cup quarter-final tie between Bremhill and Devizes Town also suffered the same fate.

Week 21 - Saturday 13 January 2018
With Cricklade Town’s game at Bassett Bulldogs being postponed, leaders Melksham Town Reserves took full advantage opening up an eight-point lead at the top of the table courtesy of a 3-0 away win at Pewsey Vale Development. All three goals came in the first half with leading scorer Callum Demkiv scoring the first on his return to the club from Corsham. Dan Sibley and Emilio Menghini added further first half goals to complete the scoring.

Shrewton moved up into third place in the table with an excellent 3-1 home win over a much-improved Marlborough Town. When the two sides met back in August Shrewton had won comfortably 6-2 but knew they were in for a much tougher game this time with Marlborough having put together a great run of results of late. Top scorer Dan Burton led the way for Shrewton with a brace, but the goal of the game was scored by centre back Dean Smith who ran the length of the pitch to place the ball past the Marlborough keeper. The consolation goal for Marlborough was scored by Christopher Deane.

Kintbury Rangers met Devizes Town Reserves for the first time and had the returning Tom Mahoney to thank for giving them the lead in the 13th minute. This was to be the only goal of a close first half encounter. Harry Way extended Kintbury’s lead on 58 minutes and veteran Shaun Thorp stepped off the bench to add a third seven minutes from time to complete the scoring.

A couple of impressive wins against Wroughton and Marlborough Town had lifted Royal Wootton Bassett Town Development into fourth place in the table, but they came down with a bump this week becoming the first side to lose to Bremhill in the league this season and dropping a place in the table as a consequence. With Bremhill having already won 4-2 at the Gerard Buxton ground this season in the cup, the pitch at Royal Wootton Bassett certainly seems to suit their passing style as they did a double of sorts over Bassett and will no doubt tonight be celebrating that first win of the season. On a couple of occasions this season they have conceded late on to deny themselves the three points but made no mistake this week. A long-range effort from Jack Pearson and two strikes from substitute Edidiong Essien did the damage for the visitors, Tom Miller with the consolation goal for Royal Wootton Bassett. The win lifted Bremhill off the bottom of the table.

Purton met Malmesbury Victoria Development for the second time this season and in both games it has been a tight affair with a solitary goal deciding matters on each occasion. When the two sides met back in August at the Red House Purton narrowly edged it 3-2 and the second encounter was also decided in Purton’s favour with the only goal of the game being scored by Chris Avery.

The final league game of the day saw Ludgershall Sports move up a place in the table following a comfortable 4-1 home win over an out of sorts Trowbridge Town. Star of the show was Sam Walsh who fired a hat-trick, Mike Owen getting the other Ludgershall goal. Dom Alllen scored the Trowbridge Town goal.

Wroughton have won the Fountain Trophies Cup in the last two seasons and they are looking to make it a hat-trick of wins this season. They were made to work very hard in their quarter-final tie at Westbury United Reserves with penalties being required to settle it after it finished 1-1 after extra time. Both goals had been scored in normal time with Tyler Wilkinson scoring for Wroughton and Sean Brereton for Westbury. In the shoot-out Wroughton were deadly from the penalty spot scoring all four of their kicks taken and with Westbury missing their last two it finished 4-2 to the holders who progress through to the last four, joining Cricklade Town who won last week. The final two semi-final spots will be taken by either Melksham Town Reserves or Ludgershall Sports, who meet next week, and Bremhill or Devizes Town Reserves.

Week 22 - Saturday 20 January 2018
A combination of waterlogged pitches and cup matches meant that none of the top eight sides were involved in league action this weekend, with just two league matches surviving the weather.

Marlborough Town climbed a place in the league table to ninth following an excellent 3-1 home win at home over Pewsey Vale Development in a local derby encounter played in difficult heavy conditions. Whilst Marlborough had most of the play in the first half the two sides turned round at the break with neither side having found the net. The deadlock was finally broken five minutes after the restart when Andrew Neale fired in a free kick for his first goal of the season. Marlborough extended the lead when Valentin Rascanescu was put through by Simon Neale and made no mistake when one on one with the Pewsey keeper for his fifth goal of the campaign. Marlborough wrapped up all three points when Jordan Ball scored from another free kick. There was still time for Pewsey to score a consolation goal with what was virtually the last kick of the game when leading scorer Taylor Edwards fired in for his seventh goal of the season.

In the only other league game played Bremhill were looking to build on last week’s first league win of the season against Royal Wootton Bassett Town Development when they visit eleventh placed Corsham Town Reserves. When the two sides had met back in August it had finished 2-0 to Corsham but Corsham had won just one of their last six going into the game and a close encounter was anticipated and so it proved. It was the home side who went in front early on in the game from a corner, Emilio Muprak the scorer, and the teams turned round with it 1-0 to Corsham at the break. Bremhill got themselves back into the match when Joel Smedley netted but Corsham regained the lead 20 minutes from time when Josh Bright fired into the left hand corner of the net from the edge of the box to take all three points. Despite a number of good chances Bremhill were unable to get back on level terms as Corsham completed the league double over them.

Leaders Melksham Town Res are safely through to the quarter-finals of the Fountain Trophies Cup after a comfortable 5-2 home win over Ludgershall Sports in their Second Round tie. When the two sides had met in the league earlier in the season it had been a tight affair with a solitary goal deciding matters in Melksham’s favour. Not so close this time though and once again Melksham had the prolific young duo of Callum Demkiv and Rhys Talmarsh to thank for their goals, both bagging a brace. Jake Sainsbury was the other scorer for Melksham. Melksham will now be home to Pewsey Vale Development in the next round.

The games between Devizes Town Res and Cricklade, Trowbridge Town and Shrewton United, Kintbury Rangers and Westbury United Reserves, Purton and Royal Wootton Bassett Town Development plus Malmesbury Victoria Development and Bassett Bulldogs were all postponed due to waterlogged pitches.

Week 22 Midweek - Thursday 25 January 2018
All games scheduled for the Under 18 Division this week were postponed due to the weather.
Week 23 - Saturday 27 January 2018
The wet weather once again decimated the Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League programme with just two games surviving but it wasn’t just the wet stuff that rained down this weekend as the two games that were played also rained goals.

Kintbury Rangers made up ground on their rivals at the top of the table as they moved up a place into third spot in the league courtesy of a second half goal rush against Malmesbury Victoria Development. In the first period Kintbury had most of the play, creating numerous chances and hitting the woodwork twice but, despite all the possession, it took a goal from George Smith just before the half time whistle to finally break the deadlock. Smith firing into the bottom corner from the edge of the box.

Whilst there had been a lack of goals in the first half the floodgates opened in the second period. Shaun Thorp scored the second volleying in after the Malmesbury keeper had saved his initial headed attempt on goal. The third came after leading scorer Charlie Allsop was brought down in the box by the Malmesbury keeper. Allsop picked himself up, dusted himself down and fired in the resulting spot kick. Next on the score sheet was Shaun Thorp again, a player who back in Season 2006-7, had finished Kintbury’s joint top scorer with a certain Charlie Austin. His second of the game and thirteenth of the season was scored following good build up play and made it 4-0 to Kintbury. The fifth was scored when Charlie Allsop was put through following good work from the back and he fired his shot into the bottom corner of the net for his twenty-fifth goal of the season. The sixth goal of the game came courtesy of Luke Johnson after a skilful dink over the top from substitute Fabio Pinto. The scoring was completed by a second goal for George Smith when he fired into the top corner of the net to make it 7-0 to the home side. Following this comprehensive win Kintbury are now twelve points behind leaders Melksham Town Reserves but importantly have three games in hand, with the two sides also yet to play each other this season. Kintbury are certainly going to have a big say in the title race along with Melksham, Cricklade, Shrewton United and Wroughton.

The only other game to be played was at the Gerard Buxton ground where Royal Wootton Bassett Town Development welcomed Ludgershall Sports. When the two sides had met on the opening day of the season it had finished 3-0 to Ludgershall and Royal Wootton Bassett Town avenged that opening day defeat with a comfortable 5-1 win. Harrison Gough opened the scoring for the home side before top scorer Ryan Withers got in on the act, scoring his thirteen and fourteenth of the season to put Royal Wootton Bassett Town 3-0 in front. The visitors Ludgershall got themselves back into the game just before the break but late goals from Ben Lodge and George Lance, who recently transferred back to the club from Bremhill, completed the scoring for Bassett. The win moved them level on points with fourth placed Shrewton United but having played three games more.

The other five games were all postponed due to waterlogged pitches.

Week 23 Midweek - Thursday 1 February 2018
The title race for the Under 18 Division is going right down to the wire following this week’s big game between leaders Chippenham Town and second placed Melksham Town. Chippenham went into their penultimate league game of the season on the back of a 100% record, having defeated Melksham 2-0 in the first meeting between the two sides. However, on Thursday night Melksham avenged that earlier defeat in another tight affair between the top two youth sides in the county. Two second half goals from substitute Seth Wain secured the points for Melksham and stopped Chippenham going all season unbeaten. Alfie Presley scored the Chippenham goal. Both sides still have to play Calne Town in their final games, but Chippenham have the advantage currently having a better goal difference by six goals.  They also play their game against Calne after Melksham so will know exactly what they need to do by the time they play their final game.

Week 24 - Saturday 3 February 2018
The weather once again took its toll with half the scheduled league games being postponed due to waterlogged pitches.

In the three games played, Shrewton United were the big winners of the weekend with a comfortable 8-2 home win over near neighbours Ludgershall Sports. When the two sides met back in August they shared six goals and the points in a tight affair but Shrewton made no mistake this time round. That said it was Ludgershall who went in front but after that it was all Shrewton as they climbed back above Kintbury Rangers and Royal Wootton Bassett Town Development in the table into third place. Veteran Jesse Walters led the way with a hat-trick, helped by some great set up play by Nathan Jones. Walters has now hit 15 goals this season and is now Shrewton’s leading scorer. Nathan Jones himself bagged two in a great individual performance with further goals coming from Charlie Utterson, Dominic Jackson and Lee Weeks, the latter from Weeks being the best goal of the lot. Shrewton have applied for promotion to Step 6 and are looking good to have a big say in the title race and potential promotion.

Royal Wootton Bassett Town Development could not build on last week’s big win over Ludgershall Sports as they lost 2-1 away at Devizes Town Reserves. Alex Surman and Liam Mortimer with the goals for Devizes, Surman with a tap in from close range and Mortimer with a stunning shot on the run from 15 yards out into the top corner of the net. Logan Cassidy with his sixth of the season getting the consolation goal for Royal Wootton Bassett Town. The win kept Devizes in 12th place in the table.

In the only other league game to survive the weather, Corsham Town Reserves picked up three useful points following a 4-2 home win over the young Malmesbury Victoria Development side. Goalscorers for Corsham were Josh Bright (2), Ed McCormack and Matt Legg. On target for Malmesbury in this one were Harrison Archer and Dan Scull.

Kintbury Rangers took a break from league action when they played Saxton Rovers from the North Berks League in the Quarter Final of the Berks & Bucks Trophy. Saxton are currently unbeaten in their league and showed why with a comprehensive 5-0 win leaving Kintbury Rangers to concentrate on the league.

The games between Bremhill and Wroughton, Westbury United Res and Trowbridge Town and Pewsey Vale Development and Cricklade Town were all postponed due to waterlogged pitches,

There was just one game in the week in the Under 18 Division which saw Calne Town consolidate in third place with a 4-1 away win at bottom of the table New College Swindon. Whilst Calne can no longer win the league they will have a big say in where the title resides with both the top two sides, Chippenham Town and Melksham Town, to play in their final three fixtures.

Week 25 - Saturday 10 February 2018
With the top of the table clash between Kintbury Rangers and Melksham Town Reserves being one of six games to fall victim of the weather it was set up for Shrewton United to close the gap at the top of the table in the only game to survive.

Visitors Bremhill arrived at the Recreation Ground on the back of a reasonable run of form which had lifted them off the bottom of the table. They had also pushed Shrewton all the way when the two sides had met earlier in the season, Shrewton eventually winning 4-3 that day. However, it took Shrewton, the league’s second highest scorers just five minutes to break the deadlock, Alistair Carvell scoring his first goal for the club. Carvell then bagged an assist when his long throw was met by captain Dean Smith who scored with a powerful header to put Shrewton 2-0 in front. Bremhill got themselves back into the game when Alex Pippard intercepted a back pass to fire past Shrewton keeper Ben Bissington to make it 2-1. Shrewton regained their two-goal advantage on the stroke of half time when a Dean Smith free kick was parried out but fell to Alistair Carvell who fired in for his second of the game. There was still time for more goals in a frenetic end to the half. The first went to the visitors Bremhill, Alex Pippard getting on the end of a long ball to get his second of the game and make it 3-2. However, this was still not the end of the first half scoring. Carvell was having a great game and deep into first half injury time he completed his hat-trick firing into the top corner of the net from the edge of the box to make it 4-2 at the break.

The goals dried up in the second half as the two defences shut up shop, the only goal of the half coming on 50 minutes when captain Dean Smith scored his second of the game, getting on the end of a ball across the box from Dan Burton.5-2 the final score in favour of Shrewton who move up above Cricklade Town in the table into second place.

The only other game to survive the weather was the match between Devizes Town Reserves and Westbury United Reserves. With both sides in reasonable form a close one was anticipated ahead of the game and so it proved. The two sides sharing four goals and the points with the equaliser for Westbury coming in the last minute from Sean Brereton. Matty Mantay with the other Westbury goal. Martin Mitchell getting both goals for Devizes.

All the other scheduled fixtures were postponed due to waterlogged pitches.

Week 26 - Saturday 17 February 2018
On an afternoon when the rain finally relented, and the county of Wiltshire was hit by a minor earth tremor, there were also a few minor shocks in the Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League with the top two both losing to add interest to the title race.

Last season’s champions Wroughton have fallen off the pace in recent weeks but travelled to play league leaders Melksham Town Reserves looking to halt the leaders relentless march to the title. Melksham had won all of their previous six games, scoring 25 goals in the process whilst Wroughton had only one of their previous four games. The first shock of the day was that Melksham failed to add to their impressive goal haul with Wroughton’s defence becoming the first side this season to keep a clean sheet against the division’s top scorers. Wroughton secured all three points on the back of this impressive defensive performance with a goal of their own from veteran Craig Bowden who scored on 30 minutes with a powerful strike.

Second placed Shrewton United, another side who have been in impressive form of late, could not take advantage of the leaders defeat as they also went down, 3-2 away at Royal Wootton Bassett Town Development in the second minor shock of the day. The young Development side are in fifth place mainly on the back of their impressive home form which has seen them lose just twice at home in 12 league games. They continued this good form at the Gerard Buxton Ground with goals from Logan Cassidy, Josh Bolton and Carl Shepherd securing the three points. On target for Shrewton were Dean Smith and Alistair Carvell.

Third placed Cricklade Town had a frustrating afternoon as they were unable to take advantage of the top two’s defeats, turning up at Corsham Town Reserves to find that the home side were unable to raise a side. The only consolation for Cricklade was seeing two of their main rivals for the title drop points.

No such problems for fourth placed Kintbury Rangers who put their defeat in the Berks & Bucks County Cup behind them with an impressive 5-0 away win at Ludgershall Sports. This win puts them nine points behind the leaders Melksham but, with three games in hand, they can catch the leaders by winning all three. First half goals from Shaun Thorp, Luke Johnson and Charlie Allsop put Kintbury 3-0 up at the break. Further goals in the second half from Jay Gannon and another for Allsop, making it 27 for the season for Kintbury’s leading striker, completed the scoring for the visitors. Kintbury stay fourth one point behind third placed Cricklade Town having played one game less.

A goal on the stroke of half time from Pewsey Vale’s Wesley Lima was enough to give the visitors all three points from their short trip to Devizes Town Reserves. The win lifted Pewsey Vale one place in the table above Trowbridge Town, who went down 2-0 at Marlborough Town, their eighth consecutive defeat in a row in all competitions. Christopher Deane scored both Marlborough goals taking his tally for the season to 9. The win lifted Marlborough a place in the table into 8th place. With nine of their final fourteen games to be played at home Trowbridge will be hoping home advantage can see an uptick in their fortunes.

Another side to win 2-0 were Bremhill thanks to goals from Alfie Presley and George Budge. The win away at Purton lifted Bremhill out of the bottom two. The final game of the day saw a comfortable 3-0 home win for Westbury United Reserves against Bassett Bulldogs.  Goals from George Bendle, Ferris Lamrabet and Grant Gunning securing the three points for Westbury.

Week 26 Midweek - Thursday 22 February 2018
The title race in the Under 18 Division will go down to the wire as Melksham Town secured a come from behind win at Calne Town on Thursday to go three points clear of rivals Chippenham Town. Calne deservedly led 2-0 before Dan Broom pulled one back for the title challengers Melksham to calm the nerves. Rhys Talmarsh put Melksham back on level terms when he scored from the penalty spot and then scored two more to give Melksham a 4-2 win. Chippenham must now beat Calne themselves next week to take the title. If they fail to take all three points then Melksham will be champions.

In the other game played in the division, Laverstock & Ford were held at home to a 1-1 draw by New College Swindon, Max Well with the Laverstock goal and Jake Marsh netting for New College.

Week 27 - Saturday 24 February 2018
Despite the cold snap the good news was that all but one of the scheduled fixtures in the Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League went ahead this weekend.

Headline makers on Saturday evening were Trowbridge Town. Once the top non-league side in the county they have been on something of a bad run this season and it looked as this would continue at home to Pewsey Vale Development when they found themselves 3-0 down at the break thanks to goals from Jacob Garrett, Tom Taylor and Mark Jones for Pewsey. However, a fantastic second half fight-back saw them pick up all three points for their first win in thirteen games. They initially managed to get back on level terms with three goals of their own, but Pewsey went back in front from the penalty spot, Tom Ballard with the fourth goal for Pewsey. However, Trowbridge were not to be denied and two further goals gave them the three points, 5-4 the final score. On target for Trowbridge in the impressive second half showing were Natti Morgan with two, Tom Caldicott, Kieran Taylor and Greg Richardson.

Cricklade Town climbed into second spot in the table courtesy of a narrow 1-0 win over Royal Wootton Bassett Town Development. On target for Cricklade was the Division’s top scorer Devan Bryan who took his total for the season to 33.

Kintbury Rangers also moved up a place in the table into third spot with a come from behind 3-1 home win over Corsham Town Reserves. Trailing 1-0 at the break to an Arron Mason goal for Corsham, second half goals from Shaun Thorp, Tom Mahoney and George Smith gave Kintbury the three points.

Shrewton whose game at Purton was the only one lost to the weather were the side who slipped a couple of places in the table due to the wins for Cricklade and Kintbury Rangers.

After last week’s win over league leaders Melksham Town Reserves, Wroughton picked up another three points with a narrow 2-1 win over a Westbury United Reserves side that sit just below them in the table. Top scorer Shane Hibbert returned from a spell in the Uhlsport Hellenic League playing for Royal Wootton Bassett Town to get both Wroughton goals. Joe Maloney scored for Westbury. The win left Wroughton in sixth spot three points behind Royal Wootton Bassett Town Development but with five games in hand.

Ludgershall Sports had lost their previous four games going into their home match against a Marlborough Town side who sat a couple of places above them in the table. They will therefore be very pleased with a narrow 1-0 win which ended their losing streak and also lifted them a place in the table into 9th spot. The only goal of the game came midway through the first half when a shot from Murat Kvrt was deflected into the path of Nathan Strong who fired in from close range. In a scrappy second half neither side was able to add to the scoring.

Down at the bottom end of the table Malmesbury Victoria Development picked up three vital points away at bottom of the table Bassett Bulldogs, winning by the odd goal in five. Two goals from Gareth Jones, including a penalty, plus a Robin Collier free kick for Malmesbury, consolation goals for the Bulldogs coming from Colin Cochrane and Josh Dimond.

Bremhill have certainly proved themselves to be a cup side this season and they made it through to the semi-final of the Fountain Trophies Cup with an impressive 5-2 home win over Devizes Town Reserves. The game was a lot closer than the final score line would suggest but the young Bremhill side took their chances to make it through to the last four of the competition. Two goals apiece for Joel Smedley and Alfie Presley plus one for Jack Pearson did the damage for Bremhill. On target for Devizes were leading scorer Ben Jenks with his sixth of the season and Lee Himsworth.

Week 28 - Saturday 3 March 2018
Unsurprisingly all games in the Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League are postponed this weekend. Hopefully the weather will improve in the coming week to allow football to resume next Saturday and hopefully Thursday for the Under 18 Division.

Fixture Secretary Phil Cook will be busy re-arranging these games and revised dates will be issued in the in near future, along with the remaining games until the end of the season.

Week 28 Midweek - Thursday 8 March 2018
One of the outstanding fixtures was played in midweek in the U18 Division with Calne Town, who are guaranteed 3rd place in the league, winning 1-0 away at Laverstock & Ford. There are just three games to be played including one this coming Thursday that will see the league title decided when Calne Town travel to Chippenham Town. Chippenham need to win the game to take the title should Calne get a draw or win then the title will be heading Melksham way.

Week 29 - Saturday 10 March 2018
After last week’s snow had melted away and hopefully not to be seen again this season, action in the Corsham Print Senior League recommenced in midweek when leaders Melksham Town Reserves travelled to Malmesbury to play Malmesbury Victoria Development. In a game that was a credit to both sides Melksham extended their league at the top of the table with a 4-2 win. Amongst the goals for Melksham were Rhys Talmarsh and Dan Sibley. Lewis King scored the opener for Malmesbury with Robin Collier scoring the second from a free kick.

Melksham’s scheduled massive encounter with third placed Kintbury Rangers, a game that could go a long way to deciding the title, was one of three games to fall victim of the weather on Saturday. The other two being at Trowbridge, where Bremhill were scheduled to be the visitors, and Westbury where Purton were hoping to see some action.

With Melksham inactive Cricklade Town took full advantage as they once again put plenty of goals past a Ludgershall Sports side who must dread it when the fixtures against Cricklade are scheduled. The 7-0 defeat on Saturday was actually the lowest they have conceded in the last three encounters with Cricklade who have now put 27 goals past Ludgershall in those three matches. Who else but the league’s leading scorer Devan Bryan led the way with a hat-trick, taking his total to 36 for the season. He was joined in the scoring stakes by Matt Bennett, Tom McCulloch, Devon McCalla and Terry Dearing. The win took Cricklade back to within five points of the leaders with a game in hand.

Wroughton have certainly returned to form in recent weeks and that carried on this Saturday with a comprehensive 6-1 home win over visitors Malmesbury Victoria Development, making it two defeats in a week for the young Malmesbury side. Shane Hibbert took his goal tally to 25 for the season and there were further goals for Chris Flanagan, Ollie While and Sam Long. Kyle Witt scored the consolation goal for Malmesbury. The win lifted Wroughton up a place in the table to 4th spot.

Royal Wootton Bassett Town slipped down a place as they were defeated 4-0 away at an in-form Corsham Town Reserves. Two goals from Matt Legg plus further strikes from Nick Chandler and Josh Bright did the damage for Corsham who made it three wins in their last four games and gained revenge for their defeat at Bassett earlier in the season.

Marlborough Town climbed up to 7th place in the table courtesy of a local derby away win at Pewsey Vale against the young Development side. The two sides had met three weeks previously at Marlborough when the home side had won 3-1 and they won by the same score line In completing a quick-fire double over their opponents. Marlborough had gone 1-0 up only to be pegged back by a Tom Ballard penalty for Pewsey. Marlborough then went back in front on the stroke of half time with a free kick and added a further goal in the second half. On target for Marlborough in this one were leading scorer Aaron Presley, taking his total for the season to 13, Jordan Ball and Valentin Rascanescu.

The final game of the day saw Devizes Town reserves pick up all three points in an impressive 4-0 home win over bottom of the table Bassett Bulldogs. Darren Lewis had given Devizes the lead and Robbie Mitchell then made it 2-0. Sam Dodds added a third before Mitchell got his second of the game to complete the scoring. Devizes stay 12th but have increased the gap to the teams below them to10 points.

Week 29 Midweek - Thursday 15 March 2018
The Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League Under 18 Division title was decided in midweek when Chippenham Town defeated Calne Town 7-0 in their final game to win the league on goal difference from Melksham Town. With a better goal difference already ahead of the game just a win was needed to take the title but, in the end, that win was comprehensive, although the actual game against Calne Town was a lot closer than the final score line would suggest.

Chippenham opened the game playing down the slope but found their opponents Calne Town in a resilient mood and they more than held their own. After 30 minutes there was no score but just after the half hour mark Chippenham broke the deadlock to relieve some of the tension and it remained 1-0 at the break.

The crucial second came on 65 minutes from a headed goal to put the title within Chippenham’s grasp. With Calne having played so well up to that point it was just about game over five minutes later when they had a player sent off for a late challenge. Chippenham fully exploited the extra player advantage to fire in five further goals in the closing 20 minutes, the final one coming in injury time at the end. On target for Chippenham on the night were Alfie Presley with a hat-trick, Caine Bradbury, Joel Smedley, Aaron Witchell and Zak Mitchell. Congratulations to Chippenham on taking the title with just one defeat all season that coming at home 2-1 against title rivals Melksham Town. Well done also to Melksham Town who also lost just once all season going down 2-0 at home in the game against Chippenham. The two sides have dominated the league all season and there is a good chance that they will also meet up in the cup final later in the season if games in that competition go to form.

Week 30 - Saturday 17 March 2018
Meanwhile in the Premier Division on a bitterly cold and windy afternoon Melksham Town Reserves kept their march to the title on track with a comfortable 3-0 home win over Royal Wootton Bassett Town Development. Playing with the wind they led 2-0 at the break and added a third in the second half to make sure of the three points. Goal scorers for the leaders were Rhys Talmarsh with his 15th of the season, Seth Wain and an own goal.

Shrewton were narrow 1-0 winners at home against Pewsey Vale Development. Despite having most of the play in the first half it was the young Pewsey side who went closest to breaking the deadlock in the first period when a deflected shot looked destined for the net but a tremendous save from keeper Joe Sheldrake kept the scores level at 0-0 at the break. The deadlock was finally broken in the second half when Craig Stevens fired Shrewton in front. Shrewton continued to dominate but were unable to extend the lead having a couple of goals disallowed. The win lifted them back into 3rd place above Kintbury Rangers whose game at Trowbridge was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

Wroughton moved to within a point of Kintbury Rangers with a narrow 4-3 home success over Bremhill. Wroughton were not at their best and laboured to the three points against an improving Bremhill side. On target for Wroughton were Aaron Maximen with two, Tyler Wilkinson and Jordan Lea, Caine Bradbury bagging a brace for Bremhill and Alfie Presley with the other. Bremhill remain second from bottom but with 10 home games to come in their final 12 fixtures will be looking to climb the table.

Marlborough Town gained revenge for their narrow local derby defeat at Ludgershall Sports last month with a comfortable 3-0 home win. They remain in 7th place in the table but have closed the gap to the sides above them. Goals from Robert Harland, Aaron Presley and Elliott Smith did the damage for Marlborough.

It was honours even in the game between Malmesbury Victoria Development and Devizes Town Reserves at the Flying Monk Ground, Kyle Witt scoring for the second consecutive game for Malmesbury and Martin Mitchell from the penalty spot for Devizes.

Corsham Town Reserves won 4-0 at home for the second week running defeating bottom of the table Bassett Bulldogs. On target for Corsham in their latest win were Emilio Mudrak with two and joint top scorers Adam Mitchel and Aaron Masson with one a piece. The win lifted Corsham a couple of places in the table into 9th spot.

The penultimate league fixture in the Under 18 Division saw New College Swindon climb off the bottom of the table after a comfortable 6-1 home win over Laverstock & Ford. New College moved above Laverstock & Ford and Bradford Town as a result of the win and they will meet Bradford Town in the final league fixture of the season.

With the league action coming to a close, games have now commenced in the Group stages of the cup competition. There was a shock in the opening game in Group A when league champions Chippenham Town, fielding a number of their younger players, were beaten 5-3 by an improving Calne Town side. On target for Chippenham were Adam Bloomfield with two and Harris.

In Group B, league runners-up Melksham Town made no mistake at home to Bradford Town. Hat-tricks from Seth Wain and Rhys Talmarsh helped Melksham to a 7=2 win, Owen Pearce completing the scoring on the night for the home side.

Week 31 - Saturday 24 March 2018
Melksham Town Reserves were pushed all the way by Westbury United Reserves this weekend with Melksham edging it by the odd goal in three to open up an 11-point lead at the top of the table. Goals from Emilio Menghini and Tom Mack were enough to give them a narrow 2-1 win over Westbury United Reserves, Paul Gittens with his first of the season for Westbury United Reserves.

Second placed Cricklade Town were once again left frustrated when their trip to Calne to meet Bassett Bulldogs was postponed, one of two games to be lost to the weather, the other being at Trowbridge where Malmesbury Victoria Development had been the intended opponents.

Kintbury Rangers took full advantage of Cricklade’s inactivity moving up into 3rd place and to within a point of Cricklade with a come from behind win at home against Devizes Town Reserves. Kintbury scored all five of the goals on the day as an own goal put Devizes in front but strikes from George Smith and Shaun Thorp gave Kintbury a 2-1 lead at the break. Further second half goals from Alex Smith and Harry Way ensured Kintbury took all three points. Kintbury how now won eight league games in a row and are 12 points adrift of the leaders Melksham with four games in hand. Win all four and they would be on level points with the leaders so there is still all to play for in the title race but with points in the bag Melksham must be feeling confident. Cricklade Town are also still very much in the title race but are going to have to deal with a lot of midweek away fixtures in their run in.

Biggest winners of the day were Wroughton who made in five straight wins with a 5-1 away success at Ludgershall Sports. For the second week running Aaron Maxiimen bagged a brace and there were further goals for leading scorer Shane Hibbert, Ollie Wile and Tom Dingle.

After two big wins Corsham Town Reserves came unstuck away at Marlborough Town who themselves are in a rich vein of form. A 2-1 win for Marlborough was their fifth in their last six games and they had goals from Tom Mooney and Christopher Deane to thank for their latest success, Ali Mayoh with the consolation goal for Corsham.

The final game of the day saw derby action at the Red House in Purton with Royal Wootton Bassett Development the visitors in the first of two meetings between the two sides this week. Goals from Andrew Bilko, Jack Duckers and former Royal Wootton Bassett Town player Scott Walduck gave Purton the points following a 3-1-win, Nick Mason with the consolation goal for Royal Wootton Bassett. The two sides meet again this coming Wednesday evening.

The midweek action kicks off on Tuesday night when Bassett Bulldogs visit Bremhill and Westbury United Reserves travel to Pewsey Vale Development. On Wednesday as well as the Royal Wootton Bassett Town and Purton return match, Corsham Town Reserves entertain Devizes Town Reserves.

Week 31 Midweek & Week 32 - Saturday 31 March 2018
Just as we see the back of the snow we have then had a week of heavy rain that has drenched already saturated pitches and more games have been postponed as a result. Already facing a heavy backlog of fixtures, it is certainly going to be a busy April for some teams, with Purton having 14 games still to play and Kintbury Rangers, who are involved in the title race, still having 13 games to get in between now and the end of the season.

Despite all the rain there were a handful of games that went ahead, including a number of midweek games as sides seek to catch-up with the backlog. The midweek action kicked-off on Tuesday with a battle of the bottom two in the “Calne derby”. Bremhill’s results have improved of late and they climbed out of the bottom two with a comprehensive 6-0 home win over visitors Bassett Bulldogs. Bremhill dominated the game from start to finish and were clinical in front of goal. Alfie Presley led the way firing a hat-trick to take his total to 9 for the season. Alex Pippard also got on the scoresheet to deny Presley joining him as top scorer for Bremhill, firing in his 10th of the season. Further goals from Edidiong Essien and Freddie Porter completed the scoring for Bremhill. The defeat left Bulldogs six points adrift at the bottom of the table.

There was also Tuesday night action at Pewsey where Westbury United Reserves were the visitors. Goals from Sean Brereton, with his 8th of the season, and Jamie Hughes did the damage for the visitors in a 2-0 win that saw Westbury do the double over their opponents this season. Westbury remained in 8th place as a result of this latest win but have games in hand over the two sides immediately above them in the table.

The following night it was the second leg of the local derby between Purton and Royal Wootton Bassett Town Development which had seen Purton win the first leg 3-1 on Saturday. Royal Wootton Bassett Town Development were up against it on Wednesday night when they had a player sent off in the opening 10 minutes of the game giving Purton a one-man advantage for most of the game. However, despite being a man down it was Royal Wootton Bassett Town Development who went in front on 21 minutes when Dale Richards scored. Purton were finally able to take advantage of the extra man 10 minutes from time when Scott Walduck, son of the Royal Wootton Bassett Town Chairman, scored his second of the week against Bassett to salvage a point for his side. If they had taken all their chances it could easily have been all three points and the double, but it was not to be as the 10 men of Royal Wootton Bassett held out for a share of the points.

On Saturday just one game survived the weather and ironically it was at the side who are most advanced with their fixtures, and probably least needed to get their game played, Royal Wootton Bassett Town. Whilst the home side now have just two games to play visitors Trowbridge Town with 12 still to play after Saturday’s game were relieved to see some action for the first time since 24th February and they certainly enjoyed their afternoon as they ran out impressive 4-1 winners. It was the second time this season they have hit four goals past the Bassett defence. Trowbridge led 2-0 at the break thanks to goals from Elliott Caldicott and Ben Ryder, the second coming when Ryder got on the end of a free kick into the Bassett box. Rich Clarke pulled a goal back for the home side after the restart before Trowbridge hit another two themselves through Kieron Taylor and Dan Sandford to make sure of all three points. The best goal of the day went to Sandford who ran from the half way line and beat the whole of the Bassett defence before firing into the bottom corner of the net to seal the points. That is now two wins on the bounce for Trowbridge who have put their bad run behind them and with games at home to teams below them in the table scheduled in the next week they will be keen to extend that winning run further. Hopefully the rain will finally stop allowing the scheduled midweek fixtures in the league to go ahead.

Week 32 Midweek  - Thursday 5 April 2018
Finally, the rain stopped allowing action to resume for a number of sides in the Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League. On Tuesday night two of the five scheduled games survived the weather and two massive games in the title race they were too.

Result of the calendar year so far goes to Marlborough Town who went to leaders Melksham Town Reserves and returned with all three points following a fantastic 3-2 win. Marlborough went into the game on the back of a fine run of form which had seen them win five of their previous six games but few, even amongst their most ardent supporters, would have expected them to lower the colours of the league leaders and title favourites. Goals from Tom Mooney, Christopher Deane and an Aaron Presley penalty, his 15th goal of the season, gave Marlborough the three points, Tom Mack and Shaun Benison with the Melksham goals. This result will no doubt have been celebrated in Cricklade and Kintbury, Melksham’s two biggest rivals for the league title as it threw the title race wide open.

Shrewton United, playing their first game for a couple of weeks, made it six wins from their last seven games with a convincing 6-1 win over visitors Devizes Town Reserves. Shrewton didn’t have it all their own way with keeper Joe Sheldrake being forced into making a couple of good saves but Shrewton were in form in front of goal with Jesse Walters bagging a brace taking his total to 17 for the season and there were further goals from Charlie Utterson, Ronan Clancy, Joey Weeks and Craig Lewis with his first of the season. Liam Mortimer with the consolation goal for Devizes. The win lifted Shrewton up into second place 10 points behind Melksham Town Reserves with both sides having played 24 games.

More midweek action on Thursday night starting at the Red House where Purton met bottom side Bassett Bulldogs. Chris Avery gave Purton an early lead on 3 minutes firing in after good work from Robert Lincoln. Purton extended their lead a minute later when Scott Walduck continued his rich vein of goal scoring form when he scored his 3rd in as many games. Chris Avery then scored his second of the game with a 20-yard strike on 36 minutes making it 3-0 at the break to Purton. Purton took their foot off the gas a little bit in the second half but were able to add a fourth when William Backhouse scored on his debut to make it 4-0 on the night and extend Purtons’ unbeaten run to three games. They remain in 9th place in the table but have several games in hand on the sides above them.

Biggest win of the night and their biggest win of the season went to Westbury United Reserves who inflicted a heavy defeat on visitors Ludgershall Sports. Westbury led 7-0 at the break but they eased off in the second half, although still managed to add a further four goals to make the final score 11-0. This is the second time this season that Ludgershall have lost by this score line on their travels, the first such defeat coming back in August at Cricklade. There were hat-tricks for Westbury from both Sean Brereton and Martin Johnson, Jordan Pinder bagged a brace and there were further goals for Matt Mantay, Ferris Lamrabet and Ian Groves.

In the other game played Devizes Town Reserves lost for the second time in the space of a couple of days, going down narrowly 3-2 away at Corsham Town Reserves. Matt Legg was the star of the show for Corsham scoring twice, Josh Bright adding a third. Leading scorer Ben Jenks scored his 7th of the season for Devizes with Luke Enderby scoring his first of the season for Devizes to complete the scoring.

Week 33 - Saturday 7 April 2018
Following Melksham Town Reserves defeat in midweek it was the turn of their closest rivals to drop points on Saturday as the league title race took more twists and turns. Having scored 11 times in midweek and playing a Cricklade Town side who were averaging four goals a game going into their trip to Westbury the anticipation was that the game between Westbury United Reserves and Cricklade Town would be full of goals. However, it proved to be exactly the opposite with both defences on top with the game finishing in a rare 0-0 draw at this level. Never and easy place to visit Cricklade will be probably still be viewing this as two points dropped rather a point gained in the quest to close the gap to leaders Melksham Town Reserves at the top of the table. The point was enough to lift Cricklade back up into second spot in the table.

The reason for Cricklade moving up a place was down to Purton’s fine 4-1 home success over Shrewton United who had previously sat in second spot. All the action in this one came in the opening 45 minutes. Sam English put Purton in front on 20 minutes, William Backhouse extended the lead on the half hour mark before Shrewton pulled one back. Two minutes later Chris Avery restored the two-goal advantage before Jack Duckers extended the lead further on the stroke of hour time to make it 4-1 at the interval. That’s how it stayed with Purton continuing their excellent run of late which has seen them go unbeaten in their last four games, winning three of those four games.

Another key game in the title race saw an in-form Wroughton side take on title chasing Kintbury Rangers. When the two sides had met earlier in the season Wroughton had edged it 2-1 and it was another tight affair at the Weir Field. Twice visitors Kintbury Rangers led thanks to goals by leading scorer Charlie Allsop and twice they were pegged back by the home side, Tom Dingle and Jordan Lea with the Wroughton goals. The two goals from Charlie Allsop took his total for the season to 29 as he closed in on leading scorer Devan Bryan of Cricklade Town. As with Cricklade, this was probably viewed as two points dropped by Kintbury rather than a point gained in the race to catch leaders Melksham. Just two points now separate the team in 2nd place, Cricklade Town. from 5th placed Wroughton.

The other two games played in the Premier Division were also tight affairs. Trowbridge Town finally were able to play a home fixture and shared four goals and the points with visitors Corsham Town Reserves. Matthew Legg scored the first Corsham goal with a volley from outside the area and Josh Bright scored the second five minutes from time. Both Trowbridge goals were scored by leading scorer Natti Morgan. In the final league game of the day Bremhill kept up their recent good form with a narrow 2-1 home win over Ludgershall Sports, Alex Pippard with his 11th of the season and Alfie Presley with his 10th of the season doing the damage for Bremhill.

League leaders Melksham Town Reserves were involved in Fountain Trophies Cup quarter-final action this weekend and made it through to a semi-final date with Bremhill following a comfortable 5-2 home win over Pewsey Vale Development. Since his return to Melksham from Corsham Town Callum Demkiv has found goals more difficult to come by but he found his scoring boots again on Saturday netting a brace to take his total to 27 for the season. Further goals from Alex Churchyard, Seth Wain and an own goal completed the scoring for Melksham. The semi-final tie against Bremhill is scheduled for Tuesday 24th April at the Oakfield Stadium.

Week 33 Midweek News - National League System Restructuring
A planned FA restructure of the English National League System is intended to be implemented with effect from the start of next season (2018-19 season). The Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League currently operates at Step 7 in the English Football Pyramid and will remain a Step 7 League under the new proposals.

The main thrust of the changes is that the FA intends to create two new divisions, one at Step 3 and one at Step 4 in an attempt to reduce travelling at that level. In order to implement this, the FA have decided that all Divisions from Step 3 to Step 6 will be reduced to 20 clubs per Division. Step 7 divisions, such as the Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League, will be permitted a maximum of 16 teams per division from next season. As the League currently has 17 sides it means the league will be required to reduce its complement of sides by one next season.

At the end of this season, all Step 5 Division champion clubs across the country (14) will be promoted to a Step 4 Division, and the 12 runners up across the Step 5 Divisions with the best points per game ratio will also be promoted. However, with a number clubs currently operating at Step 4 and above announcing that they will be seeking voluntary relegation it now looks likely that all of the 14 runners-up will be promoted, and that promotion may possibly also be offered to one or two sides finishing 3rd. The club finishing bottom of the 6 current Step 4 Divisions will be relegated to Step 5 (6 in total). That will give the required number of Clubs to form the two new divisions.

The FA have advised clubs that it may be necessary at the end of the current season to consider the lateral movement of clubs between leagues at the various Steps within the National League System, including Step 7, to ensure the various leagues have the required number of sides as envisaged under the new blueprint for the National League System.  The FA have stressed that owing to the restructure, it is likely that there will be more clubs than usual that will be laterally moved in the System.

As noted above, the Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League currently has 17 teams in our Premier Division and, with no teams applying for promotion to Step 6 and, provided all intend carrying on next season, one team will have to be relegated to a District League.  In this instance, League Rule 12(B) will be applied, and the lowest ranked Reserve or Development team will be relegated. The position as outlined above does not take account of any teams applying for promotion from a District League nor any being relegated from a Step 6 League (League Rule 12(D).  If this were to arise, then the League would be forced to relegate additional Reserve or Development teams (in addition to the lowest ranked one). With the ground grading requirements for Step 6 being strictly applied it is unknown what the impact is going to be to leagues at both Step 6 and Step 7 from all these changes. All will become clearer once the current season is completed and the promoted and relegated teams and their geographic location are known.

So whilst the main prize of the current season remains the Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League Premier Division title there will be a few Reserve and Development sides at the other end of the table keen to put more points on the board in case the league are forced to relegate a side come the season end.

Week 33 Midweek - Tuesday 10 April & Thursday 12 April 2018
The big game in midweek took place on Thursday night when fourth placed Kintbury Rangers travelled to Melksham to take on the league leaders. Although down in fourth place and eleven points behind Melksham Town Reserves ahead of the game, Kintbury had four games in hand and this game was massive in terms of the race for the title. As expected it was a tight affair in the first half between two sides who play attractive passing football and whilst both sides created a couple of half chances they got to half-time with the two defences on top and without any goals. That changed three minutes after the restart when Lewis Sopp fired the visitors Kintbury in front. Soon after Melksham had a strong shout for a penalty when a ball into the box appeared to strike the hand of a Kintbury defender, but the referee waved play on, denying the chance to get back into the game from the penalty spot. With both sides continuing to play football of a high quality, Kintbury extended their lead when veteran Shaun Thorp got on the end of free kick into the box to convert on the half volley. They then had the chance to make it 3-0 almost immediately after when George Smith was put through one-on-one with the keeper, but the Melksham keeper pulled off a superb save to keep his side in the game. Kintbury were now putting the home side under tremendous pressure and went close again when, following a quickly taken free kick, the fall into the box was met by a Kintbury head and looked goal bound until a great defensive header kept the score at 2-0. They were not to be denied for long though as Alex Smith outpaced the Melksham defence to a ball through the middle and coolly slotted the ball away to make it 3-0 to the visitors. Melksham still kept playing and looking to get back into the game and had their best chance of the half five minutes from time when the ball was cleared to the edge of the box and unfortunately for the home side the volley back in sailed just over the bar. Kintbury’s George Smith, who had gone close on a couple of occasions, finally got himself on the score sheet in the closing minutes when he headed in from a Jack Lee cross to make it 4-0 to Kintbury. All in all a stunning second half performance from the visitors that lifted them into third spot in the table, now just eight points behind leaders Melksham but crucially with four games in hand. That said, there is still a long way to go in the title race with Kintbury still having to play Melksham again, Cricklade Town and in-form sides Purton (twice) and Marlborough Town but this result could prove very important in the final reckoning.

Purton’s fine run of late continued with two midweek victories to extend their unbeaten run to six games, the last four of which have yielded 12 points. On Tuesday night when they made the short trip across the M4 Motorway to play Wroughton, another side who had been in a rich vein of form ahead of the game. In a tight first half a solitary strike from Steve Keir had given visitors Purton a 1-0 lead at the break. Wroughton’s leading scorer Shane Hibbert got the home side back on level terms early in the second half when he scored from the penalty spot, this was his 27th of the season. Wroughton were then awarded a second penalty with a similar result as Hibbert fired Wroughton into a 2-1 lead and his 28th of the season. Tom Dingle then added a third for Wroughton and it very much looked like Wroughton would be the side to continue their unbeaten run. However, a determined Purton side got themselves back into the game with a Sam English goal and were back on level terms when pacy substitute Lewis Chatwin scored his first of the season to make it 3-3. The game was finally settled from the penalty spot with the visitors being awarded a spot kick of their own which was duly dispatched by William Backhouse for his third goal in three games, 4-3 the final score in what sounded like an exciting affair at the Weir Field.

There were also seven goals in the Tuesday night game between Pewsey Vale Development and Bremhill at the other end of the table. Pewsey lifted themselves back above Bremhill in the table courtesy of a 4-3 win, all the Pewsey goals coming from players scoring their first Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League goals of the season, Michael Martin, Liam Edmondson, Ryan Thomas and Lee Smith the Pewsey scorers. Bremhill replied through Jack Sterling, Joel Smedley and leading scorer Alex Pippard.

On Thursday night Bremhill hosted Purton as both sides continued their busy week of action. Bremhill had started the game well but it was Robert Lincoln who scored for Purton against the run of play to make it 1-0 to the visitors. Top scorer Chris Avery then put Purton 2-0 up before having to go off injured. A third from Andrew Bilko put the result beyond doubt but Bremhill were rewarded for their efforts on the night with a consolation goal from Aaron Witchell. The win continued Purton’s great run but Bremhill had certainly made them work hard for all three points on the night.

Another game played on Tuesday night was also full of goals and for Shrewton United huge damage was done to any remaining title aspirations they had as they lost 4-2 at home to Westbury United Reserves. The result meant Westbury completed the double over Shrewton having won 1-0 at home back at the start of the season. On target for Westbury in their latest win were Sean Brereton, Ferris Lamrabet, Jordan Pinder and Ben Howlett. Whilst Westbury are not in the running for the title they could still have a big say in the final outcome as they visit both Cricklade Town and Kintbury Rangers in their final two fixtures of the season.

Talking of Cricklade Town they kept their own quest for the title on track on Thursday night with a 4-1 away win at bottom of the table Bassett Bulldogs. A hat-trick from Matty Bennett and a goal from Tom McCulloch securing the win which put Cricklade to within seven points of leaders Melksham Town Reserves but again with three games in hand in what is turning into a fascinating title race. Jason Hudson scored the consolation goal for the Bulldogs.

Week 34 - Saturday 14 April 2018
League leaders Melksham Town Reserves bounced back from the midweek defeat against nearest rivals Kintbury Rangers with a comfortable 5-0 win over bottom of the table Bassett Bulldogs. Having lost 12-0 at home to Melksham this was a massive improvement for the Bulldogs side who have definitely improved as the season has progressed. First half goals from Lee Fielding and top scorer Callum Demkiv with his 28th of the season gave Melksham a 2-0 lead at half time. Second half goals from Jake Sainsbury, Tom Jones and Seth Wain completed the scoring for Melksham who are now just two goals short of 100 for the season in the league, whilst the Bulldogs have now conceded 100 league goals in their 25 matches to date.

Kintbury Rangers have certainly enjoyed the second half of their two games in the past few days. On Thursday they hit four second half goals to defeat the league leaders and found themselves being held 0-0 on an unsurprisingly heavy pitch at Malmesbury given the recent flooding against Malmesbury Victoria Development. They once again turned it on after the break hitting six goals without reply. On target for Kintbury were George Smith, Alex Smith, Shaun Thorp, Dee Rowswell and Tom Mahoney completed the scoring with a brace.  This latest win lifted Kintbury up into second place in the table, eight points behind Melksham but crucially with four games in hand.

Cricklade Town, who had been in second placed prior to their trip to Shrewton United, slipped up when they lost 2-1. Their cause was not helped when their keeper suffered a breakdown on his way to the match meaning managers son Terry Dearing was forced to don the gloves as their stand-in keeper. Home side Shrewton found their scoring boots after two recent defeats and went in from on 25 minutes when Craig Lewis rounded Dearing to fire Shrewton in front. The second goal came before the half time break when Josh Sommerton chipped Dearing in the Cricklade goal to make it 2-0 to the home side. The League’s top scorer Devan Bryan pulled one back for Cricklade in the second half, taking his total for the season to 37, but the equaliser eluded them. Cricklade dropped down to third place whilst Shrewton remained in fourth spot.

Fifth placed Wroughton got back to winning ways after two games where they had not tasted victory to stay in touch with the leading pack.  After a tight first half Wroughton over powered the home side Bremhill after the break running out 4-1 winners. Goals in this one for Aaron Maximen, Tyler Wilkinson and Gareth Davies (2) for Wroughton, Freddie Porter with the Bremhill goal.

Corsham Town Reserves recent good run continued with a 4-0 home win over Pewsey Vale Development. After their midweek win against Bremhill Pewsey were hoping to go on a bit of a run themselves but came unstuck as Corsham as the home side scored through Aarron Masson (2), Josh Bright and Adam Mitchell.

The final game of the day saw Westbury United Reserves climb into sixth place in the table after a fine 2-1 win away at in-form Marlborough Town. Christopher Dean netted with his 12th of the season for Marlborough, Ferris Lamrabet and Conner McKay with the winning goals for Westbury who have now won four of their last five games, drawing the other matching their best run this season which came in their first five games at the start to the season.

Week 34 Midweek - Tuesday 17 April 2018
Another busy week of midweek action in the Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League as teams seek to catch up all the games lost to the weather in the early part of the calendar year. The top two, Melksham Town Reserves and Kintbury Rangers were both in action and, as on Saturday, both recorded wins. League leaders Melksham Town Reserves were made to work hard for the points by visitors Ludgershall Sports, eventually edging it by two goals to one, Ash Barnett and Tom Jones putting Melksham 2-0 up before Ludgershall pulled one back late on through Luke Soulby to make the final score 2-1. The two goals meant Melksham were the first side to score 100 league goals this season.

Kintbury Rangers are becoming something of a second half specialist side. For the third consecutive game they turned around goal less at the break and then once again, as they had done at Melksham and Malmesbury in their previous two games, they turned on the style in the second half to wrap up all three points.  Dee Rowswell put them 1-0 up following a defensive error. Alex Smith then made it 2-0 with a headed goal. Marlborough Town got themselves back into the game when top scorer Aaron Presley scored from the penalty spot. Another Alex Smith header restored the two-goal advantage before Luke Johnson made it 4-1 to Kintbury to make sure of the points. However, there was still time for Marlborough to score a second, again the goal came from an Aaron Presley penalty, taking his total for the season to 17. So it is as you were at the top of the table with Melksham Town Reserves leading Kintbury Rangers by eight points but with those four games in hand still and with the two sides still to meet at Kintbury.

Wroughton moved back into the top three for the first time in a while with a comprehensive 9-0 home win over bottom of the table Bassett Bulldogs. Jordan Lea fired a hat-trick, whilst there were braces for both Aaron Maximen and top scorer Shane Hibbert, taking his total for the season to 30. Richie Saunders and Sam Long completed the scoring for a rampant Wroughton side.

One of the current form sides in the division are Corsham Town Reserves. On Tuesday evening they were playing their 600th game in the top division of the league and celebrated the occasion by making it four games unbeaten with a  2-1 win over Purton, a side who themselves had been on a great run of form having gone six games unbeaten before Tuesday’s game. On target for Corsham were Ben Wilkins and top scorer Aaron Masson, Andrew Bilko with the Purton goal.

At the other end of the table the two lowest placed Reserve/Development sides met at Pewsey Vale and it was honours even as the two sides shared four goals and the points. Wesley Lima had put Pewsey Vale Development in front before goals from Sam Brown and Harrison Archer put visitors Malmesbury Victoria Development in the lead. James Turner then scored the equaliser for Pewsey, 2-2 the final score.

The game between Bremhill and Cricklade was postponed by Bremhill.

Week 34 Midweek - Thursday 19 April 2018
Another busy night of midweek action in the Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League saw the pendulum swing back the way of league leaders Melksham Town Reserves in the title race.  Melksham won 5-0 away at Bremhill whilst their two nearest rivals, Kintbury Rangers and Cricklade Town dropped points as they both drew on the night.

At Bremhill a goal from Lee Fielding set the leaders on their way. Emilio Menghini doubled the lead on 24 minutes before Jake Sainsbury made it 3-0. In a productive first half there was still time for leading scorer Callum Demkiv to get in on the act, scoring a fourth on the stoke of half time. With the game as good as won at the break the leaders took their foot off the gas in the second half and a second for Callum Demkiv was the only reward for their second half endeavours. Demkiv moved onto 30 for the season as a result of his two goals.

Second placed Kintbury Rangers lost ground when they were held to a draw by visitors Purton. For the fourth consecutive game Kintbury turned around 0-0 at the break and the only difference with the three previous games was that they were unable to find their goal scoring boots in the second half and the game finished 0-0 with the points being shared. Purton have improved as the season has progressed and with Melksham Town Reserves and Kintbury still to play at the Red House could have a big say in the final destination of the title. The draw left Kintbury 10 points adrift of Melksham with four games in hand.

Third placed Cricklade Town’s title aspirations suffered a blow when they could only draw 2-2 away at another much improved side of late, Corsham Town Reserves. Devan Bryan was both hero and villain for Cricklade scoring both Cricklade goals, taking his total for the season to 39, but also missing a penalty. Cricklade went two up but goals from Josh Bright and Connor McCarron pegged them back to ensure a share of the points.

At the other end of the table Malmesbury Victoria Development picked up three vital points with a 1-0 home win over Trowbridge Town. The game was decided three minutes from time by a 20-yard free kick from Josh Hughes. The win lifted Malmesbury above Bremhill in the table and moved them to within a point of both opponents on the night Trowbridge Town and Pewsey Vale Development.

Bassett Bulldogs looked like they would secure their first win in a long while when Jason Hudson, with his 8th of the season, fired them in front against visitors Marlborough Town. Marlborough had possession for long periods of the game but excellent defensive play from the Bulldogs, led by keeper Jordan Brooks who pulled off a series of excellent saves, looked like securing the points for Bulldogs. However, a Jordan Ball equaliser in the closing stages of the game denied the Bulldogs that elusive third win of the season.

Week 35 - Saturday 21 April 2018
The race for the title realistically is now between Melksham Town Reserves and Kintbury Rangers after this weekend’s round of matches. League leaders Melksham Town Reserves made no mistake at home to Pewsey Vale Development running out 4-0 winners thanks to goals from Luke Bellinger (2), Rhys Talmarsh and Dean Flockton. The win took Melksham onto 72 points with 3 big games to play against Kintbury Rangers, Cricklade Town and Purton. Before that they host Bremhill in a cup semi-final on Tuesday evening.

It was a weary looking Kintbury Rangers side that arrived at the Gerard Buxton Ground,  fielding a team that seemed to be carrying a few knocks from the heavy toll of games in recent weeks. Luckily for them they found a Royal Wootton Bassett Town Development side in a generous spirit to their opponents, gifting a couple of goals to the visitors in what was a tight game. Kintbury went in front on 8 minutes when a defensive error allowed Luke Johnson to get a shot away that he wasn’t really entitled to and Bassett keeper Alex Bowers could not hold onto the shot and the ball ended up in the back of the net. Royal Wootton Bassett Town got back on level terms on 24 minutes when a good one-two between Ryan Withers and Logan Cassidy put Cassidy clear through on goal, but the striker managed to hit the post but fortunately the hard-working Josh Bolton had followed the ball in and was able to tap in for the equaliser. Both sides created chances but just as it looked like the two sides would turn around level at the break the Bassett keeper, in looking to clear a back-pass, only managed to hit Kintbury striker George Smith with his attempted clearance and the ball rebounded into the Bassett net. There was still time for Kintbury to have another glorious chance before the break when Harry Way was put through clean on goal, but the chance went begging. Within a minute of the restart Royal Wootton Bassett Town had a great chance to level matters when Logan Cassidy was put through, but he fired the chance high over the bar. Royal Wootton Bassett Town were then made to pay for not taking their chances when another defensive slip up from a ball over the top allowed George Smith to go clean through on goal and he showed how to finish with a clinical strike to make it 3-1. Royal Wootton Bassett Town Development came back at the title chasing visitors and created a number of good chances. They finally took one of these when Dale Richards fired in with a low and powerful shot from the edge of the box to make it 3-2. The game continued to ebb and flow with Bassett keeper Alex Bowers pulling off a couple of good saves to deny Kintbury from extending their lead whilst Bassett continued to push but were unable to find that elusive equaliser. Kintbury knew they had been a tough match but a win is a win and kept them on the tail of the leaders Melksham. Kintbury remain 10 points behind the leaders but still with those four games in hand.

Cricklade Town started the day in 3rd spot knowing that they could not afford to drop any more points if they were to remain in the title race and their quest is all but over for this season after they lost 2-0 away at Trowbridge Town. Goals from Quentin Head and Saul Johnson did the damage for Trowbridge in an impressive performance from the home side. Cricklade slipped a place in the table as a result of the defeat.

Wroughton had started the day in 4th place and also dropped a place in the table after a heavy defeat away at Shrewton with Shrewton climbing two places in the table as a result of their stunning 7-2 win against a side who had been in good form of late. It started well for Wroughton as they went in front on the half hour mark with a free kick from outside the box from leading scorer Shane Hibbert. However, they only held the lead for a couple of minutes before Craig Lewis turned a Wroughton defender and bent the ball around the Wroughton keeper for the equaliser. Two minutes later Jake Watson beat two defenders and squared the ball to Craig Lewis who beats the Wroughton keeper again for his second of the game. Charlie Utterson extended Shrewton’s lead five minutes before the break when he hit a half volley from 20 yards out beating the keeper at his near post. There was still time for Wroughton to get themselves back into the match from the penalty spot, Shane Hibbert again the scorer  taking his total to 32 for the season, to make it 3-2 at the break. The game remained close for the first 25 minutes after the restart. With 72 minutes gone Lee Weeks hit a powerful shot from 25 yards out which the Wroughton keeper was equal to pulling off a great save, tipping it over the bar for a corner. A lofted ball from the resulting corner was met at the back post by the head of Charlie Utterson to make it 4-2 to Shrewton. Shrewton put the game beyond their visitors five minutes later when Matt Western headed in a Craig Lewis cross to make it 5-2. In the closing stages of the match both Charlie Utterson and Craig Lewis completed their hat-tricks. Utterson got his third with another header from yet another Craig Lewis cross who then in injury time fired in his own third of the game to make it 7-2 to a rampant home side.

Westbury United Reserves are ending the season strongly. They came into the game against Purton on the back of a five-game unbeaten run, four of which had been won. They extended the unbeaten run to six with a 3-0 win over a Purton side that themselves had been in good form in recent weeks. Two goals from Conner McKay and one from George Bendle in this latest win for Westbury.

Another side who are ending the season strongly are Corsham Town Reserves who extended their unbeaten run to six games with a 4-2 home win over Ludgershall Sports. Top scorer Aaron Masson led the way with a hat-trick, taking his total to 12 for the season, Emilo Mudrak completing the scoring for the home side. Dave Cotter and Lewis Pickernell with the Ludgershall goals.

The game between Bremhill and Devizes Town Reserves was postponed.

Week 35 Midweek - Tuesday 24 April 2018
League leaders Melksham Town Reserves took a break from league action when they met Bremhill in the first of this week’s Fountain Trophies Cup semi-finals. They certainly carried their league form into the cup competition as they inflicted a heavy defeat on a side in Bremhill who have often saved their best form for cup competitions. Seth Wain set Melksham on their way to the final as early as the 2nd minute. The same player made it 2-0 on 15 minutes before leading scorer Callum Demkiv then got in on the act on 34 minutes netting his 31st of the season. The same player made it 32 for the season and 4-0 on the night before Rhys Talmarsh completed the scoring, 5-0 it finished, the second time Melksham have beaten Bremhill by that score in the last week. In the final Melksham will meet either Wroughton or Cricklade Town who meet in the other semi-final this coming Thursday at the Weir Field.

Back in the league top match of the evening saw 2nd placed Kintbury Rangers host 4th placed Cricklade Town looking to close the gap to the leaders as they played the first of their four games in hand. Kintbury are making a habit in recent weeks of turning around at half time with the game poised at 0-0 and so it proved again on Tuesday night. Whilst usually they have then found their scoring boots in the second half this did not prove to be the case against a solid Cricklade side who, like Purton last week, denied the free scoring Kintbury strikers that vital goal needed to keep the pressure  on Melksham. Whilst both sides created chances, none were taken with the points being shared. The point gained by Kintbury moved them to within 9 points of the leaders, still with those three games in hand, and with the two sides still to meet at Kintbury it is all still to play for in the title race.

Third placed Shrewton United made it three wins in a row with a narrow 2-1 away win at Trowbridge Town. Ben Ryder scored for the home side, Craig Lewis and Charlie Utterson with the goals for Shrewton.

Wroughton started the evening in 5th place and were looking to bounce back after Saturday’s heavy defeat at Shrewton ahead of that cup semi-final. Shane Hibbert took his total for the season to 34 with another brace with Jordan Lea getting the other goal in a 3-1 win over Devizes Town Reserves, meaning they will go into the cup game with Cricklade in good spirits.  Devizes goal was scored by Alex Surman. The win lifted Wroughton a place in the table to 4th spot above Cricklade.

Purton and Marlborough Town went into their game at the Red House with almost identical records in the last seven games. Both had won four in a row only to then fail to win in their next three. It was Purton who were smiling come the end of the evening as they won 3-1 to also avenge the 4-1 defeat to the same opponents back at the beginning of September. Gianluca Costabile was the star of the show firing a hat trick for Purton, two coming from the penalty spot and the third coming from a well taken finish. Christopher Deane scored the Marlborough goal.

Royal Wootton Bassett Town Development, after a recent run of poor form, put that behind them to complete their fixtures for the season with a 5-1 home win over Pewsey Vale Development. On target for the home side were Josh Bolton and Ben Gerrish with two a piece, Logan Cassidy getting the other goal in a comfortable win for the home side. The win lifted Royal Wootton Bassett Town Development two places in the table, up to 8th spot.

At the bottom end of the table Malmesbury Victoria moved up a place in the table, and crucially moved above Pewsey Vale Development, courtesy of a last-minute winner from Robin Collier against Bassett Bulldogs, Collier scoring with a 35-yard free kick to deny a spirited Bulldogs side a share of the points. This is the second game running that Bulldogs have dropped points right at the death, having been denied all three points against Marlborough last week by another late goal. The other two Malmesbury goals in the 3-2 win came from Sam Brown and Sam Jenner. On target for the Bulldogs were Craig Hunt and Colin Cochrane.

Week 35 Midweek - Thursday 26 April 2018
There will be a different name on the Fountain Trophies Senior Cup this season as Wroughton narrowly failed in their bid to make the final and win the cup for the third consecutive season. At home to Cricklade Town on Thursday night they went down 2-3 in a close contest between two of the top sides in the league. Top scorer for Wroughton Shane Hibbert hit his 5th goal in the competition, taking his total in all competitions to 35 for the season, Tyler Wilkinson added a second for the home side but it was not enough as Cricklade Town hit three of their own through Matty Bennett, Reece Gilliver and Anthony Packer to make it through to the final. Cricklade will meet Melksham Town Reserves in the final at Corsham Town a week on Saturday. Both sides will go into the final looking to win the cup for the third time, Cricklade Town last won it back in Season 2000-01 whilst Melksham Town Reserves last lifted the trophy in Season 2014-15.

League action on Thursday night saw second place Kintbury Rangers move to within six points of leaders Melksham Town Reserves with a comprehensive 13-0 thrashing of Bremhill. They did their goal difference the world of good in the process, which in the end could become the deciding factor in the close title race. After a very busy period of fixtures and ahead of Sunday’s Wiltshire County Youth Cup Final involving a number of the Bremhill side who represent Chippenham Town in that competition, Bremhill made the decision to rest several players and give senior debuts to four players against the title chasing Kintbury side. Kintbury took full advantage to become the third side this season to notch over 100 goals. Leading scorer Charlie Allsop was back amongst the goals for Kintbury, having recently returned to the side following injury he banged in five to take his total for the season to 34. The other eight Kintbury goals came from Dee Rowswell (2), Harry Way (2), George Smith (2), Liam Thorne and Steven Blunt. This coming Saturday sees the big game between Kintbury and Melksham which could well decide the final destination of the league title for this season.

Westbury United Reserves welcomed Trowbridge Town to Meadow Lane for their final home game of the season. In what turned out to be a tight affair neither side was able to find the net and the points were shared. Interestingly this was the third time that Trowbridge had been involved in a scoreless game this season, this is out of a total of just nine games that have ended that way in the whole division. Westbury United now finish their season with four games on the road whilst Trowbridge Town still have seven to play, five of which are at home.

With Westbury dropping a couple of points Purton took full advantage to move above them in the table courtesy of a 4-0 away win at Pewsey Vale Development. Scott Walduck led the way with a brace, taking his total for the season to six, whilst leading scorer Chris Avery bagged his ninth of the season and Andrew Bilko rounded-off the scoring for the visitors with a late goal.

Week 36 - Saturday 28 April 2018
Kintbury Rangers took a massive step towards winning the title with a narrow 1-0 home win over Melksham Town Reserves. It is often fine margins that determine champions and it took a penalty from leading scorer Charlie Allsop to separate the two leading sides in this season’s premier division. It came in the second half and meant that Kintbury completed the double over Melksham and are now unbeaten in 17 league games. The goal from Allsop took his total in all competitions to 35 for the season. The win took Kintbury to within 3 points of Melksham at the top of the table with Kintbury having two games in hand. Melksham have just two games to play, home to Cricklade before finishing with a trip to Purton, both tricky looking fixtures. Kintbury’s four remaining fixtures also includes a trip to Purton, home games against Pewsey Vale Development and an in-form Westbury United Reserves, before finishing with a trip to Trowbridge Town. All still to play for but this latest win for Kintbury definitely makes it advantage Kintbury.

Shrewton United stay third after a narrow 3-2 win over visitors Purton. Twice Purton led through goals from Robert Lincoln and Andrew Bilko only to be pegged back twice and for Shrewton to then fire in a winner in the closing stages. Jake Watson scored the first of Shrewton’s three goals, Dom Jackson netted the second equaliser and Matt Western got the winner for Shrewton five minutes from time.

Wroughton quickly put the disappointment of Thursday evening’s cup semi-final defeat to Cricklade behind them smashing six goals past a Trowbridge defence that only two days earlier had kept a clean sheet against Westbury United Reserves. No surprise that leading scorer Shane Hibbert was the main architect of the big win smashing a hat-trick to take his total to 38 for the season, goals from Liam Griffin, Jordan Lea and Ollie While completed the scoring in the 6-2 win.

Cricklade Town continued where they left off on Thursday with a comfortable 5-1 away win at Pewsey Vale Development. Leading scorer Devan Bryan took his total for the season in all competitions to 41 with a brace, the other goals coming from Billy Sly, Tom Price and Jamie Sheppard. Cricklade stay fifth but have games in hand over the sides above them in the table.

Westbury United Reserves are ending the season in style. They took their unbeaten run to eight games courtesy of a 7-0 away win at bottom of the table Bassett Bulldogs. There were hat-tricks in this one for both George Bendle and leading scorer Martin Johnson, Johnson taking his total for the season to 16 in the process. Matt Mantay got the other goal for Westbury. The win lifted Westbury back above Purton in the table.

After going five games without a win Devizes Town will be pleased to have brought the unwanted run to an end with a 4-2 away win at Bremhill. Ethan Gilson-Clarke scored both Bremhill goals whilst Alex Surman, Darren Lewis, Sam Dodds and Ben Tylee were on target for Devizes.

The game between Malmesbury Victoria Development and Ludgershall Sports was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

Week 36 Midweek - Tuesday 1 May 2018
Another big night of action in the Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League saw Kintbury Rangers edge closer to the title on a night when their only rivals for the crown, Melksham Town Reserves, were dropping points in their cup final dress rehearsal against Cricklade Town. Cricklade Town led 1-0 at the break at Melksham thanks to a free kick from the league's top scorer Devan Bryan, but Lee Fielding equalised for title chasing Melksham. Both sides were unable to add to their solitary goal and the points were shared, the first time this season that Melksham have drawn a game.

Kintbury took full advantage of Melksham dropping points with a win against Pewsey Vale Development. Top scorer Charlie Allsop set them on their way with a goal on the stroke of half time, his 36th of the season in all competitions.  Further second half goals from Tom Mahoney, George Smith and Steve Blunt gave Kintbury a 4-0 victory as they moved to within a point of Melksham at the top of the table with two games in hand. Melksham have just one game to play now, an away trip to Purton. Kintbury’s final three games are against Westbury United, Purton and Trowbridge.

Shrewton United in third place completed their home fixtures with a comfortable 7-0 home win over bottom of the table Bassett Bulldogs. Shrewton have certainly hit form as the season draws to a close, this was their fifth straight win. Top scorer Jessie Walters led the way with a brace, taking his total for the season to 20, Charlie Utterson hit his 17th of the season with Ben Bissington, Connor Cutler, Jake Watson and Lee Weeks getting the other goals.

Corsham Town Reserves are finishing the season in style and, along with Shrewton and Kintbury are one of the form sides in the division. They took their unbeaten run to seven games with an excellent 3-1 home win over a good Wroughton side thanks to goals from Adam Mitchell, Max Whittaker and Matt Purdy. Although they lost Wroughton became the 4th side this season to hit the 100-goal mark in the league. Not surprisingly the goal they scored came courtesy of Shane Hibbert who took his total for the season in all competitions to 39.

Devizes Town Reserves made it two wins in a row with a narrow 2-1 home success over Trowbridge Town. Alex Surman scored for the third game running for Devizes, Martin Mitchell with the other Devizes goal, Ciaran Taylor with the Trowbridge goal.

Week 36 Midweek - Thursday 3 May 2018
Four games were played last night in the Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League. Cricklade warmed up for Saturday’s cup final in style with a 6-0 home win over Marlborough Town, the second time this season they have defeated Marlborough by that score line. Reece Gilliver had a good night netting four times for the home side, Devan Bryan added another to his total and there is every chance that he will get to 50 by the season end, his latest strike taking him to 43 for the season in all competitions. The other Cricklade goal was scored by Billy Sly. The win lifted Cricklade up into fourth place in the table, three points behind Shrewton United with two games in hand.

Bremhill have had a tough time of things of late but turned on the style in their home game with Westbury United Reserves, ending Westbury’s eight game unbeaten run thanks to a stunning 5-1 win.  Two goals for Alfie Presley plus strikes from Alex Pippard, Caine Bradbury and Jack Sterling did the damage for Bremhill. Jordan Pinder scored the consolation goal for Westbury.

Purton moved above Westbury in the table into sixth place after a narrow 2-1 away win at Trowbridge Town. Trowbridge took the lead on 30 minutes when Ben Ryder steered the ball home past the keeper’s outstretched hand. Purton got themselves back on level terms straight after the interval with a stunning goal from Rob Lincoln, lifting the ball from an acute angle over the home keeper's head and just inside the far post. Purton’s winner came on 77 minutes when Lincoln fired in the winner. Trowbridge had their chances to equalise, but Purton managed to hold on to claim all three points.

The final game of the night saw an entertaining goal fest at Malmesbury where the Development side shared eight goals and the points with Corsham Town Reserves in front of a healthy crowd of 95 which many games at Step 5 would be envious of. The two sides came into the game showing their best form of the season, Malmesbury were unbeaten in three and Corsham were unbeaten in seven, having won their previous four games. At the end of the night both had maintained those unbeaten runs and it meant Corsham ended their season with an eight-game unbeaten run. Whilst Malmesbury went in front four times they were pegged back on each occasion by Corsham in a highly entertaining game for the large crowd. Sam Jenner and Harrison Archer both scored two goals each for Malmesbury; Nick Chandler, Aaron Masson, Ben Wickens and Pat Kapelka.with the Corsham goals. Corsham stayed in eighth place in the table whilst Malmesbury remained in 14th place but moved to within a point of Trowbridge Town with three games to play.

Week 37 Cup Final Preview Saturday 5 May 2018
This Saturday (5th May 2018) sees the final of the Fountain Trophies Senior KO Cup. We are most grateful to Corsham Town FC for hosting the final at Southbank, for the 25th successive season.  The excellent facilities at Corsham make it an ideal venue for our Finals.

The League Officers, Management Committee and Member Clubs express their thanks to Paul Sebastianelli of Fountain Trophies who are sponsoring of the Senior Cup for the third successive season after 24 seasons as sponsors of the Junior KO Cup.  A truly remarkable, long-standing partnership for which we are extremely grateful.

Cricklade Town FC and Melksham Town FC Reserveswill contest this weekend’s final, which kicks off at 3.00pm. Referee for the final is Malcolm Tinkler from Salisbury.  He will be assisted by Patrick Butler from Swindon and Paul March from Marlborough.  Tim Bunt from Bulford will be the Fourth Official.

How They Made It to The Final
One Preliminary Round tie was required this season in the competition and Melksham Town Reswere required to play in it making the trip to Southbank to play the Reserve side of the hosts for the final, Corsham Town. Goals from Jake Sainsbury and Zac Hillier saw Melksham safely through to Round 1.

In getting to this season’s final, Cricklade Town have had the much tougher passage to the final and were involved in the stand-out tie of Round 1 of this season’s competition when they met Shrewton United at Shrewton. In a tight affair a solitary goal from Jamie Sheppard resulted in a 1-0 win for the visitors.  Melksham Town Res had a more comfortable journey to the next round with a 5-2 win over Ludgershall Sports, the victory coming thanks to two goals each from the prolific young pairing of Callum Demkiv and Rhys Talmarsh, Jake Sainsbury with the fifth. Elsewhere the Cup holders Wroughton progressed to the quarter-finals by the same score at Marlborough Town, Bremhill progressed to the last eight with a 4-2 win at Royal Wootton Bassett Town Development, Pewsey Vale Development defeated Purton 3-2 on the own ground, whilst there were home wins for Westbury United Res and Devizes Town Res, Westbury defeating Malmesbury Victoria Development 2-1 and Devizes beating Trowbridge Town 1-0.

The quarter-finals saw Cricklade Town given another difficult away tie at Kintbury Rangers but they triumphed with a 5-3 victory after extra time.  Devan Bryan was the star of the show that day smashing four goals for Cricklade with Matty Bennett adding a fifth. Melksham Town Res recorded another 5-2 score in their win over Pewsey Vale Development, Callum Demkiv once again scored a couple of goals, the others coming from Seth Wain, Alex Churchyard and an own goal. In the other two quarter-final ties, Wroughton needed penalties to progress to the semi-final at the expense of Westbury Utd Res, whilst Bremhill progressed to the last four thanks to a 5-2 home win over Devizes Town Res.

Cricklade Town continued their run of tough draws in the semi-finals when they were drawn against last season’s cup winners Wroughton but came away from Wroughton with a 3-2 victory. For once  the Premier Division's top scorer Devan Bryan was not on the score sheet, the goals coming from Matty Bennett, Reece Gilliver and Anthony Packer.   Melksham Town Res progressed to the final by hitting five goals again, this time against Bremhill, who failed to reply. Callum Demkiv scored two again for the third round running to take his total to six goals in this season's Fountain Trophies Cup competition and he is currently equal top scorer with Kintbury’s Charlie Allsop in this competition. Seth Wain also bagged a brace with the other goal coming from Rhys Talmarsh.

This will be a 7th final appearance for Melksham Town Res, having won the cup in 2009 and 2015. Their First Team also won the competition back in 1994. Between 2006 and 2009, they contested four successive finals.  Last season, they moved to a super new ground and their First Team are set to be promoted to the Southern League at the end of the season having as good as secured second spot in the Premier Division of the Toolstation Western League with a win tonight.

Like Melksham Town Res, Cricklade Town have also achieved the feat of reaching four successive finals, doing so in the years 1998 to 2001, winning the latter two before leaving to play in the Hellenic League.  This is their second season back in the Wiltshire Senior League.

Melksham currently lead the Premier Division and it’s a straight fight between them and Kintbury Rangers for league honours.  Cricklade can still finish in 3rd place in the league but need to win their games in hand to move above Wroughton and Shrewton.  The two sides have already met twice in the league. Back in August, Cricklade won 3-2 thanks to two goals from Matty Bennett and one for Jamie Sheppard, Callum Demkiv with both Melksham goals that day. The second game was on Tuesday night this week in a dress rehearsal for the final and it finished honours even with one goal for each side, Devan Bryan putting Cricklade in front with a free kick in the first half, but Melksham got back on level terms after the break with a Lee Fielding effort.

It should be an exciting and close final if the two league games between the sides are anything to go by. If scores are level at the end of 90 minutes on Saturday, extra time will be played.   Should scores still be level at the end of extra time, the tie will be decided by the taking of penalty kicks. Reminder again that the game kicks-off at 3.00PM at Corsham Town FC.

What had been already been a very good week for Melksham Town, with their first team winning promotion to the Southern League in the week, continued on Saturday with their reserve team lifting the Fountain Trophies Cup and then hearing that their main rivals for the Corsham Print Wilshire Senior League title had lost after going 18 games unbeaten in a dramatic twist in the title race. A report on the cup final follows after a quick round-up of the days league action.

That dramatic twist in the title race at Kintbury came about as Westbury United Reserves, surprisingly beaten at Bremhill in midweek after going eight games unbeaten themselves, bounced back to inflict what could prove to be a costly defeat on the home side. Kintbury went into the game knowing that a point would send them top of the league on goal difference, but they remain second tonight as they went down 3-2. Two goals for Joe Maloney and one from Ian Groves secured the win for Westbury, Alex Smith and Tom Mahoney with the Kintbury goals. Kintbury travel to Purton on Tuesday night and then finish their season at Trowbridge Town on Saturday knowing that four points from those two games would secure the title while Melksham know they must win their last game against Purton on Saturday and hope Kintbury drop three points. Whatever Kintbury do on Tuesday we know the title will only be decided on the last day of the season.

Elsewhere, Wroughton who had lifted the Faringdon Memorial Cup in midweek, when they defeated North Leigh United from the Hellenic League in the final, completed their league fixtures with a 2-2 draw away at Pewsey Vale to finish 5th in the table. Shane Hibbert scored his 32nd and 33rd league goals of the season for Wroughton taking his total in all competitions to 41, an impressive total. Liam Edmondson and Ethan Fishlock scored for the home side who also finished their games for the season and will finish in 16th place.

A point from their last two fixtures against the title challengers will guarantee Purton a 6th place finish in their first season back in the Wiltshire League after a 4-1 away win at Devizes Town Reserves. Two goals from Rob Lincoln, his second double in the space of 48 hours helped Purton to their latest win, Chris Avery and Mani Mesas with the other Purton goals, Martin Mitchell with the Devizes goal.

Three games impacting the bottom of the table saw wins for both Ludgershall Sports and Trowbridge Town and Bremhill picking up a useful point at home to Marlborough Town. Ludgershall had lost their last seven games prior to the visit of Bassett Bulldogs, who were without a win in 14, and it was the Ludgershall lads who were celebrating finally ending that winning drought courtesy of a 3-0 win. On target for Ludgershall were Dave King, Lewis Pickernell and Sam Walsh. Trowbridge had a last-minute strike from Natti Morgan to thank for their three points at home to Malmesbury Victoria Development. Trailing 2-0 to Malmesbury goals from Harrison Archer and Brett Gardiner, Tom Caldicott and Dan Sandford got Trowbridge back on level terms before the dramatic intervention from Morgan to secure all three points. Two goals from Christopher Deane were not enough to give Marlborough all three points away at Bremhill as the home side replied through David Fedyk and Ash Alchin to share the points.

Cup Final Report
After a tough season with the weather it is pleasing to report that the showpiece Fountain Trophies Cup Final was played in glorious sunshine at Corsham Town’s Southbank Ground. The game opened with both sides weighing each other up but it was Cricklade who created the early chances. Tom McCulloch showed great strength to get behind the Melksham defence and his shot was on target but cleared by a combination of Melksham keeper Alex Shaftoe and his defence. The ball was fired back in and there were appeals that it had stuck the arm of a Melksham defender, but nothing was given and it rebounded to Jamie Sheppard who fired his shot wide. Moments later Cricklade’s Reece Gilliver found Oliver Sly on the wing and he got in behind the Melksham defence, but his shot was deflected out for a corner. Jamie Sheppard had another chance for Cricklade after being put in following good work from Tom McCulloch but shot just wide.  It was the influential McCulloch who finally broke the deadlock on 12 minutes when a ball over the top and hesitation by Melksham centre-back Dean Flockton allowed McCulloch to connect with the ball and chip the keeper from just inside the box to make it 1-0 to Cricklade.

Melksham responded well to going behind and the pacy Callum Demkiv started to cause problems for Cricklade at the back by running at the defence. One such run saw him brought down and, despite appeals from the Melksham side that it was inside the box, the referee gave a free-kick just outside. The free kick was fired into the Cricklade wall and deflected for a corner. The resulting corner was fired to the far post and headed back by Ethan Cox with the ball striking the hand of Reece Gilliver and the referee pointed to the spot. Luke Ballinger took the penalty, firing it low into the left-hand corner of the net to make it 1-1 on 20 minutes.

Three minutes later Cricklade had the chance to restore the lead when Reece Gilliver fired in a free kick from the edge of the box, but it was well saved by Melksham keeper Shaftoe. Cricklade continued to press and Sam Ockwell headed just wide from a corner on 27 minutes.

At the other end Melksham were also creating chances and a cross in from the right was met by what appeared to be the head of Lee Fielding and just went wide, However, the referee had spotted that Fielding had actually connected with the ball with his hand and booked him for his action. Moments later Cricklade’s Devan Bryan joined him the book when he was harshly shown the yellow card for not retreating 10 yards for a quickly taken free-kick. It was harsh as he was not even looking at the ball at the time and the Melksham player just fired it at him.

Callum Demkiv’s pace continued to cause the Cricklade defence all kinds of problems and it was following good work by him and a pass into Menghini which saw the Melksham number 11 brought down and the referee point to the spot for the second time in the half. The penalty was hotly disputed by the Cricklade defence and two players found their way into the referee’s notebook for their protests. After a short delay Luke Ballinger stepped up for his second penalty of the afternoon and fired it into the same spot to make it 2-1 to Melksham Town Reserves on the stroke of half-time.

Within a minute of the re-start Melksham Town extended their lead as a ball over the top from Lee Fielding put Demkiv clear of the Cricklade defence and he made no mistake firing past Cricklade keeper Max Scholefield.

Whereas Cricklade had dominated the early exchanges in the first period it was Melksham, buoyed by the third goal, who looked to put the game beyond Cricklade. Two goal Luke Ballinger fired just over after cutting inside on 54 minutes. Two minutes later the influential Demkiv set up Menghini who fired his shot wide without troubling Scholefield in the Cricklade goal. Moments later Demkiv weaved past two Cricklade defenders only for his superb effort to strike the bar and go behind for a goal kick.

Cricklade responded and got themselves back in the game on 59 minutes when Tom McCulloch smashed the ball into the net after good work down the left-hand side. It was end-to-end stuff now and Ballinger thought he had restored the two goal lead moments later when he fired the ball into the net after he had got behind the Cricklade defence only to see the goal ruled out for off-side by the referee’s assistant. Cricklade continued to press for an equaliser and a Sam Ockwell free kick was headed just over by Terry Dearing on 62 minutes and 10 minutes later Oliver Sly also headed wide from a Kyle Moulden free kick. Cricklade continued to throw players forward in search of the equaliser and Sam Ockwell put Reece Gilliver through but unfortunately for Cricklade he shot just wide, Melksham were reduced to 10 men on 80 minutes when Lee Fielding was dismissed for a second yellow card and the dismissal added to the tension in the closing stages.

With the clock running down substitute Matty Bennett created space for a shot but his effort was deflected for a Cricklade corner. Moments later the same player created space for himself on the edge of the box and fired in what looked like an unstoppable shot only to see it bounce back down off the crossbar and cleared by the Melksham defence. It was all hands to the pump in the Melksham defence now and Cricklade substitute Tom Price saw his shot blocked by Zac Hillier who threw his body in the way to prevent Cricklade getting that elusive equaliser.  With Cricklade unable to find a way through and throwing men forward, deep into added time Melksham broke and substitute Tom Jones got behind the Cricklade defence racing clear to fire in the killer blow to make it 4-2 to Melksham Town. There was just about time for Cricklade to kick-off before the final whistle blew and the Fountain Trophies Cup was Melksham Town Reserves for the third time after an entertaining final.

Week 37 Midweek - Tuesday 8 May 2018
After leading the table for so long Melksham Town Reserves have been displaced in the final week of the season ahead of this Saturday’s finale as Kintbury Rangers secured an excellent 6-2 away win at Purton. On a night when the four games in the Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League averaged six goals, Kintbury scored three times in each half to go two points clear of Melksham at the top of the table with one game to go. Harry Way opened the scoring for the title challengers on 25 minutes, beating the Purton offside trap to put Kintbury in front. Kintbury extended their lead when George Smith won a penalty which he himself converted to make it 2-0. Kintbury were creating numerous chances and went into the break with a 3-0 lead after Harry Way scored his second of the game. In the second half leading scorer Charlie Allsop got in on the act, scoring his 37th of the season, after good set-up play by Way who was having a good evening at the Red House. Alex Smith made it 5-0 with 20 minutes to go and whilst Purton were able to score twice in the closing stages through Gianluca Costabile, Kintbury added one more themselves, again through Alex Smith, to make the final score 6-2. The win took Kintbury on to 75 points with Melksham two back on 73. On the final day of the season Melksham Town Reserves travel to Purton whilst Kintbury Rangers make the trip to Trowbridge Town where, because of a +16 better goal difference, a point should be enough to secure the title in what has been a dramatic and exciting race. If Kintbury go on to win the title they will have done it having had to deal with a massive back-log of fixtures caused by a combination of the weather and their County Cup run.

Cricklade Town bounced back from the disappointment of Saturday’s Cup final defeat with a 5-3 away win at Bremhill. A hat-trick for the league’s leading scorer Devan Bryan saw him move onto 41 league goals and 46 in all competitions and with two games to go has that total of 50 for the season in his sights. Normal goalkeeper Max Scholefield also got in on the scoring act with an appearance as an outfield player with Franco Michienzi completing the scoring. The five goals also meant that Cricklade became the fifth side to score over 100 league goals this season. Bremhill’s goals came from Edidiong Essien, Aaron Witchell and Ethan Gilson-Clarke.

Marlborough Town, in their final outing of the season, continued their recent run of good results against visitors Devizes Town Reserves with a 3-1 home win courtesy of a hat-trick from Aaron Presley, taking his total for the season to 20. Cullen Wylie netted the consolation goal for Devizes. This meant Marlborough completed the double over Devizes for the second season running. The win also lifted Marlborough above Royal Wootton Bassett Town Development in the table to give them a final finish of 9th place.

In the final game of the night there was to be no happy ending to the season for Bassett Bulldogs as they made it 16 games without a win to close out their season, but they did put up a spirited fight at Trowbridge Town, eventually going down 3-1 to two goals from Ben Ryder and one from Saul Johnson. Bulldogs top scorer Jason Hudson rounded off his season scoring another taking his total to nine for the season, half his sides total goals. The win for Trowbridge puts them just three points behind Devizes Town Reserves and Ludgershall Sports with a game in hand.

Week 37 Midweek - Thursday 10 May 2018
Three games were played on Thursday night with another three sides completing their fixtures for the season. Ludgershall Sports ended their season on a winning note with a 3-2 away win at Malmesbury Victoria Development. Goal scorers for visitors Ludgershall were Lewis Pickernell and Sam Walsh, Sam Jenner and Danny Cook with the Malmesbury goals. Devizes Town Reserves also ended their season with a win, defeating visitors Cricklade Town 2-1. Goalkeeper Max Scholefield once again played out on the pitch for Cricklade and scored for the second consecutive game, but Devizes won it with goals from Martin Mitchell and Ben Tylee. The final side to finish their fixtures for the season were Bremhill but it was not a happy ending for the youngsters as they went down 2-1 away at Trowbridge Town, Saul Johnson and Ben Ryder doing the damage for Trowbridge.

Kintbury Clinch Title on Final Day
Pictures courtesy of Jacob Price
Well after a long hard season in the Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League it all came down to the final day of the season. Given their better goal difference, a point away at Trowbridge Town would be enough for Kintbury Rangers to pip Melksham Town Reserves to the title in their first season in the league. Melksham Town Reserves were themselves away at Purton knowing that they just had to win to have any chance of taking the title and then hope that Trowbridge Town could do them a massive favour. The odds were clearly in Kintburys favour but their opponents on the final day, Trowbridge Town were in good form, coming into the game on the back of three straight wins.

The first notable event of the afternoon saw Sam English put Purton ahead at the Red House against Melksham. Not sure if the news made its way to Trowbridge but soon after the league leaders went in front thanks to a Liam Thorne effort and it looked very much like the title was heading Kintbury’s way. Things went from bad to worse for Melksham at Purton as the home side extended their league when top scorer Chris Avery fired in his 10th league goal of the season and 11th in all competitions to make it 2-0 to Purton, the goal coming shortly after Purton had had one disallowed. Almost immediately news then came in of a second goal at Axe and Cleaver Lane and once again it had gone to Kintbury, George Smith with his 13th of the season. Just on the stroke of half time news came in of a third Purton goal at the Red House, Chris Avery again the scorer taking him to 12 for the season and making it 3-0 to Purton. There was still time for Melksham to finally get on the score sheet just before the half time break, Shaun Bennison with the goal that gave hope of a possible second half comeback, Purton 3 Melksham Town Reserves 1 at the break. The elation of a goal in the Melksham dressing room would then have been tempered somewhat when news then filtered through from Trowbridge that Kintbury had themselves scored another before half time, top scorer Charlie Allsop firing in goal number 38 in all competitions to make it 3-0 to Kintbury at the interval.

In comparison to the events in those first 45 minutes the second half in both matches in terms of goals was somewhat more sedate with Kintbury adding just one more to make the final score at Trowbridge 4-0 and there being no further goals in the match at Purton. Harry Way, who had scored twice in midweek at Purton, getting the fourth to seal the title.

So congratulations to Kintbury on lifting the Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League in their first ever season in the league. With this season’s bad weather coupled with a good County Cup run the Kintbury side have had to deal with a massive fixture backlog which has seen them forced to play 13 games in the last 5 weeks of the season, a monumental effort in the circumstances to win the title.

Well done also to Melksham Town Reserves who led the title race for so long only to be overtaken by Kintbury in the final fortnight of the season. A valiant effort from the Melksham lads who have the consolation of last week’s cup final victory to compensate for just missing out on the title.  In the end the two defeats at the hands of Kintbury proved to be the difference in the final standings. Purton ended their first season back in the league in sixth place.

Elsewhere Cricklade Town finished their season on a high with a 5-1 home win over Westbury United Reserves. Two more goals for the league’s leading scorer Devan Bryan saw him take his league tally to 43 for the season and his total in all competitions to an impressive 48. The other Cricklade goals came from Craig Shand, Jonny Davoille and Tom McCulloch. Joe Morse with the consolation goal for Westbury. The win ensured that Cricklade finished in 3rd spot in the table.

The final game of the day saw Shrewton United also end their season on a positive note with a 4-1 away win over Malmesbury Victoria Development. It meant Shrewton had finished their season with six straight wins, but it was not enough to dislodge Cricklade from third spot, the two sides finishing on 68 points but Cricklade having the better goal difference. A points deduction suffered by Shrewton when they were unable to raise a side earlier in the season ultimately proving costly in the final analysis.  On target for Shrewton were Jake Watson, Josh Sommerton, Matt Western and Jesse Walters, Sam Jenner scored for Malmesbury who ended the season in 14th place.
