Club Notes
Sundstrand was a company based in Swindon that had started life as Plessey Hydraulics Ltd before becoming Sundstrand Hydratec Ltd and then Sauer-Sundstrand. The team bearing the company name started out in the Swindon & District League and the two seasons prior to joining the Wiltshire League saw them playing in Division 1 of the District League, finishing in 5th place in Season 1992-93 and then in 7th place the following season.

Initially based at Penhill Recreation Ground, Sundstrand had an excellent first season in Division 4 of the league. Whilst the title looked like being Shrewton United Reserves from early in the season, Sundstrand battled it out with Chiseldon, Royal Mail and Bradford Town Reserves for second spot. In the end Sundstrand secured that runners-up position finishing six points ahead of Chiseldon but 15 points behind champions Shrewton. Leading the way was John Angliss who hit 21 goals to finish joint top scorer in the division as Sundstrand were promoted to Division 3 in their first season in the league.

Sundstrand were to remain in the league for three more seasons, all of which were spent in the very competitive Division 3. Sundstrand’s first season at the higher level saw them finish just below half-way. The second season in Division 3 saw an improvement in results with Sundstrand winning as many games as they lost and also scoring as many goals as they conceded to finish in an impressive fifth place, although they never really challenged for honours. Their third season in the league was not so successful as they slipped to 9th place in a smaller division of just 11 teams. Having changed their name to Sauer Sundstrand to align with the new company name they had intended to continue in the league in Season 1998-99. However, a defection of a large number of their players to new Intermediate club Wanborough United on the eve of the season forced Sundstrand to withdraw from the league.

They subsequently re-grouped and continued for a short period in the Swindon & District League but had folded by the end of Season 2000-2001.
