Under 18 Division Gets Underway
The Under 18 Division of the Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League gets underway this week with a full set of fixtures involving all ten sides.

Three of the sides kicked-off their competitive season last week with games in the Preliminary Round of the prestigious FA Youth Cup but of the three only New College successfully made it through to the next round, although they will be joined by Chippenham Town whose Western Counties Youth league side also made it safely through to the First Qualifying Round following a 3-0 win over Gloucester City.

New College looked to be coasting in their Preliminary Round tie away at Bishops Cleeve. Jack Rockett put them 1-0 on eight minutes and Connor King made it 2-0 four minutes later. King again found the net on the half hour mark with a shot from distance to put New College 3-0 up at the break and in command. It was a different story after the break though as Bishops Cleeve pulled one back within two minutes of the restart and went in search of more goals. The home side continued to put pressure on the New College defence throughout the half and were finally rewarded with a second goal fifteen minutes from time. As the clock registered less than ten to go Bishops Cleeve then got back on level terms with a headed goal from a corner kick. With the momentum in Bishops Cleeve’s favour it looked like New College might have blown it but they dug in deep and ensured it would be they who went through to the next round with a winner four minutes from time from Tom Rejek to make the final score 4-3 to New College. They will be away to Slimbridge in the First Qualifying Round with the game scheduled for Monday 16th September with a 7.30PM kick-off. Chippenham Town’s Western Counties side will also be away in the next round when they travel to Clanfield 85.

Shrivenham and Pewsey Vale were also in FA Youth Cup action last week, but it was not such a happy ending for the Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League U18 sides. Shrivenham lost 4-0 at home to a very strong Cirencester Town side whilst Pewsey Vale were well beaten, doing down 15-1 away at Brockenhurst in the New Forest. Radstock Town’s scheduled game away at Weston Super Mare did not go ahead with Radstock forfeiting the tie.

This week’s first round of league fixtures start on Wednesday night with Chippenham Town travelling to take on last season’s beaten cup finalists Calne Town, whist two new sides this season meet at Radstock Town, where Royal Wootton Bassett Town are the visitors. On Thursday night last season’s champions Melksham Town open the defence of their title with a home game against new side Shrivenham. Last season’s cup winners New College will look to build on last week’s FA Youth Cup success when they travel to Downton where they won 11-4 last season but will be expecting a much tougher game this time round given how Downton improved during last season. The final fixture of the night sees Pewsey Vale play host to last season’s divisional runners-up FC Chippenham.

Big Win for Chippenham in Opener
The first round of fixtures in the Under 18 Division of the Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League saw Chippenham Town record a big win on their return to the league on Wednesday night away at Calne Town. Dylan Jones set Chippenham on their way with an early goal, scored a second before the break and further goals from Archie Newman, Dan Boswell, Sahr Nanoh and Charlie McCrae gave Chippenham a 6-0 half time lead. Jones completed his hat-trick on 69 minutes and McCrae matched that feat with two second half goals of his own as Chippenham eventually ran out 11-0 winners. The other two Chippenham goals coming from Sahr Nanoh, with his second of the game, and Matt Robinson.

Also on Wednesday night two late goals secured a 3-1 away win for Royal Wootton Bassett Town at Radstock Town. Royal Wootton Bassett Town took the lead just after the half hour mark and that goal was all that separated the two sides at the break. Radstock Town got themselves back on level terms through substitute Josh Singtothong on 55 minutes. Just as it looked like the points would be shared, Bassett regained the lead a minute from time and then ensured all three points when they were awarded a penalty in the second minute of injury time which was safely put away. Goal scorers for Royal Wootton Bassett Town were Thomas Pitt with two and Jed Phillips.

The reigning U18 Division champions Melksham Town won all ten of their league games last season in lifting the title but there will be no repeat of that achievement this coming season as they lost heavily in their opening fixture at the InfiLED against new side to the league, Shrivenham. 4-0 up at the break Shrivenham added three more unanswered goals in the second half to run out 7-0 winners on their league debut. Brad Hirst led the way for the visitors scoring four times, further goals from Liam Hares, Kai Richardson and Kieron Sutton completing the scoring in an impressive win.

Last season New College Swindon had done the double over their hosts Downton, scoring 17 goals over the two league games. However, Downton had certainly improved over the season in Season 2018-19 and that improvement was clearly demonstrated with an excellent 2-2 draw in their opening fixture of the new season against New College. A goal from Tom Rejek gave New College a 1-0 half time lead but Alex Wilkins put Downton back on level terms after the break. Substitute Bradley Waters then put Downton in front but when New College were awarded a penalty, Tom Rejek made no mistake from the spot for his second of the game to ensure a share of the spoils.

The final game in the first round of fixtures saw last season’s runners-up FC Chippenham secure a 5-1 away win at Pewsey Vale. FC Chippenham’s goals came courtesy of a hat-trick from Samuel Archer plus further goals from Ruben Bell and Daniel Leaney.

New College go out of FA Youth Cup

New College Swindon’s interest in the FA Youth Cup came to an end on Monday night when they went down 4-2 away at Slimbridge from the Cheltenham Youth Floodlit League in an entertaining fixture. The opening minutes saw an explosive start to the match as Slimbridge went close within the first few minutes with a one-on-one against the New College keeper. New College then hit the post on four minutes only to see the home side go straight down the other end and take the lead, Romaine Campbell turning and firing into the net. It remained 1-0 at the break but Slimbridge had increased their lead within four minutes of the restart, Leighton Tuodolo getting on the end of a great through ball to slide the ball under the New College keeper. New College pulled one back almost immediately through Jack Rockett with a shot from distance. Just when it looked like New College would get back into the game Slimbridge were awarded what looked a harsh penalty and Tuodolo made no mistake from the spot to restore the two-goal advantage. New College responded well to this set back scoring a second goal within two minutes, Alex Hemmings getting on the end of a cross from the right to make it 3-2. New College went in search of an equaliser but hopes of further progress in this competition were dashed ten minutes from time when Adam Bloomfield lobbed the ball into the net from an acute angle to make it 4-2 to Slimbridge and it is they who will progress to the Second Qualifying Round.

Two sides who had won their opening league games in the Under 18 Division met at Stanley Park on Monday night knowing that one or other would be top of the league by the end of the evening. When Royal Wootton Bassett Town, who had led 2-1 at the break, scored a third to make it 3-1 it looked like that honour would be going to them but three unanswered goals in a ten minute spell in the second half turned things round and it was FC Chippenham who took all three points courtesy of a 4-3 win. On target for last season’s runners up were Harvey Flippance and Jake Small, who both scored twice, whilst for Wootton Bassett the goals came courtesy of  Ben Chin, Michael Gilder and Jed Phillips.

FC Chippenham’s reign at the top of the table was to last two days as on Wednesday night Shrivenham displaced them on goal difference after a hard fought 1-0 win away at Radstock Town to become the second side to win both their first two games. In a tight contest it remained goalless at the break with Shrivenham having the better of things but unable to unlock a resolute Radstock defence. The deadlock was finally broken in the second half when Matt Slevin scored for Shrivenham with what turned out to be the only goal of the game and sent them top of the table. More coverage of this game will be available on the Shrivenham website and Twitter feed.

The other match played on Wednesday night was at Calne Town where Downton were the visitors. Last season Calne had done the double over Downton but Downton had improved as the season went on and had started this season with a useful point against a strong New College side. On Wednesday night it was the visitors Downton who took the lead on 25 minutes when Brad Waters scored his second goal of the season. However, the home side Calne were back on level terms at the half hour mark when Arran Burchell scored. Calne then scored a second just before half time through Ryan Kendrick to lead 2-1 at the break. Shortly after the interval Owen Thornton added a third to give Calne a two-goal cushion but Downton pulled one back almost immediately through Charlie Canty to make it 3-2. Downton pushed for an equaliser and were rewarded close to the final whistle when Tom Beckles fired in to make it 3-3 to secure a second draw and maintain their unbeaten start to the new season. Calne moved up three places in the table as a result of gaining their first point of the season.

New College go out of FA Youth Cup
Two sides who had won their opening two league fixtures got the midweek action under way this week in the Under 18 Division when FC Chippenham entertained Shrivenham on Monday night at Stanley Park. It was the home side who were celebrating at the end of the evening following a 4-0 win, but in reality the game had been a lot closer than the final score line would suggest. Daniel Leaney scored twice for FC Chippenham, with one each for Harvey Flippance and Ruben Bell as they maintained their 100% start to the season.

Another side with a perfect record is the other Chippenham side, Chippenham Town. They had their second emphatic win of the season as they hit nine without reply against Pewsey Vale, making it 20 goals in total in their opening two league fixtures. Louis Wilkins fired a hat-trick, both Dylan Jones and Archie Newman bagged a brace, and goals from Joah Hall and Charlie McCrae completed the scoring. Chippenham moved up into second place on goal difference ahead of Royal Wootton Bassett Town who also moved on to six points with a win on the same night.

Royal Wootton Bassett Town’s win came at the expense of Calne Town as Bassett hit eight unanswered goal to return to winning ways after last week’s narrow defeat at the hands of the league leaders. Sam Singha was another player to hit a hat-trick on the night, Ben Patey and Tom Pitt both scored twice and a goal from Oliver Crosby-Clarke rounded off the scoring for the home side.

New College Swindon travelled to Melksham Town having drawn their opening league game with Downton. They took the lead at the InfiLED through Dean Haddrell but Melksham Town quickly got back on level terms through a Matthew Phelps goal. That was how it remained as the two sides had to settle for a point each and for New College it was their second drawn match of the campaign and for Melksham their first point of the season.

The game between Downton and Radstock Town was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

U18 Division Round-up 4 October 2019
Full Round of Fixtures This Week
Despite the heavy rain in the early part of the week and the rain that came in on Thursday night there was still a full round of fixtures in the U18 Division of the Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League this week.

The action got under way on Wednesday night with the top two both making trips away from home looking to extend their lead at the top of the table. Leaders FC Chippenham made the short trip across to Calne Town and were rewarded with all three points following their biggest win of the season as they hit nine unanswered goals. Finn Lewkowicz led the way firing a hat-trick, Harvey Flippance scored twice taking him to five for the season and top spot in the leading goal scorers chart, and there was one a piece for Joshua Bolwell, Jack Humphreys, Harrison Jacomb and Joshua Archer. That made it four wins from four for the league leaders who are looking to go one better than last season’s runners-up position.

In the other game on Wednesday night, Chippenham Town maintained their own 100% record, but it was a close-run thing against Radstock Town. Archie Newman put Chippenham in front in the first half and it was to remain 1-0 until close to the end of the game, with both sides then scoring late on. Mason Harrison scoring for Radstock Town and Jack Baker with the winning goal for Chippenham Town as they ran out 2-1 winners. In the end disappointment for the young Radstock side who have pushed all of their opponents all the way in their opening three games, all of which have been against sides in the top four, only to see them lose narrowly and invariably to late goals. It does not get any easier next week at they welcome league leaders FC Chippenham to Southfield Recreation Ground as they look to register those first points of the season.

The weather on Thursday night at kick-off time for the three games taking place that night was very wet and windy, making it difficult for all sides, but it didn’t stop the teams producing an entertaining nights action in all three games. Downton have made a great start to the new season and are now unbeaten in three games after a 4-1 home win over Pewsey Vale. Ed Stagg set them on their way with the opening goal before last season’s top scorer Adam Castle opened his account for the season with a second. Stagg then bagged his second of the game to give the home side a 3-0 lead at the break. After the interval Pewsey Vale pulled one back from the penalty spot through Dylan Young before a Charlie Canty effort restored the three-goal advantage as Downton ran out 4-1 winners to maintain that unbeaten start to the season.

At Melksham Town, Royal Wootton Bassett Town playing down the slight slope and with the wind behind them took an early lead in the first five minutes when Oliver Crosby-Clarke fired in a shot from the edge of the box into the bottom corner of the net past keeper Josh Taylor. Jed Phillips went close to extending the lead after he fired just over on 15 minutes. Melksham’s keeper Josh Taylor then kept his side in the game with a trio of superb saves, the best of the three being a stunning dive to his left that palmed away a powerful Jed Phillips shot. It looked like Royal Wootton Bassett would rue those missed opportunities when, against the run of play, Callum Howard got on the end of a misplaced back pass, outpaced the visitors defence, only to see the keeper Jake Pearce come out and dive at his feet and appear to make the save but the ball fell kindly to Howard who bundled it over the line for the equaliser. The equaliser came just before the half hour mark. Parity was not to last long though as the visitors were awarded a corner and Taida Tendayi got on the end of it. Unfortunately for Melksham Town keeper Josh Taylor’s heroics in keeping out the opponents had resulted in a shoulder injury and he was forced to leave the field of play with Olly Clarke taking over in goal. The visitors hit the bar on 35 minutes but were to go further in front moments later when, following a great drag back, Oliver Crosby-Clarke fired in a shot over the stand-in keeper to make it 3-1. The same player then completed his first half hat-trick with a neat chip over the keeper to make it 4-1 at the break. Royal Wootton Bassett Town started the second half with the same urgency they had finished the first and went close on two occasions only to be denied by two great saves by stand-in keeper Olly Clarke saving with his feet to prevent the visitors from extending their lead. However, after that the visitors took their foot off the gas and Melksham, with the slope and wind in their favour, began to have more of the play and create more of the chances. They were rewarded on the hour mark when the Bassett keeper Pearce failed to hold on to a powerful shot from the edge of the box and Aron Byfield was on hand to slot in the rebound. Melksham continued to push for more goals but without really creating any clear-cut chances. In the closing stages Crosby-Clarke went close to adding to his tally for the visitors, firstly firing powerfully against the crossbar and then being denied by another good save from Olly Clarke as it finished 4-2 to the visitors.

The crowd at Shrivenham certainly got their money’s worth in the other game played on Thursday night as the home side and New College Swindon shared eleven goals between them. In the end it was the visitors New College Swindon who prevailed 6-5 to maintain their unbeaten start to the season in the league. On target for the College side were Max Spackman who scored two, Jack Rockett, Tom Rejek, Connor Harris and Rhys Evans. For Shrivenham, Kieran Sutton bagged a brace, Matthew Slevin, Kai Richardson and Bradley Hirst also scoring, the latter’s goal taking him to joint top of the early goal scorers’ chart (see below) with a total of five for the season so far.

U18 Division Round-up 11 October 2019
Chippenham Town Maintain Unbeaten 100% Winning Record
The continued wet weather resulted in two of the five scheduled fixtures in the Under 18 Division falling victim to waterlogged pitches this week. The three fixtures that did get the go-ahead included Chippenham Town’s trip to New College Swindon as two academy-based sides came head to head. Both went into the game unbeaten, with Chippenham also looking to defend a 100% record. That record remains intact but only just as a 90th minute penalty scored by Dan Boswell, his second goal of the season, secured a narrow 2-1 win for Chippenham. Chippenham had most of the play in the first half but were denied on a number of occasions by the New College goalkeeper and his defensive back line and it remained goalless at the break. The deadlock was finally broken on 57 minutes when, with New College down to 10 men with a player in the sin bin, Edrin Asante scored for the visitors. New College, with their playing numbers restored to eleven,  got themselves back on level terms with an equaliser on 68 minutes through Max Spackman, with his third of the season. Then the drama of that 90th minute penalty which ensured Chippenham move level on points with FC Chippenham at the top of the table.

Also moving level on points with the two Chippenham based sides are Royal Wootton Bassett Town who secured their fourth win of the season against a depleted Downton side who had been hit with illness within their squad. Sam Singha scored twice for Royal Wootton Bassett Town, taking him to five for the season, and there were second goals of the season for both Michael Gilder and Ben Chin. A fifth Bassett goal came courtesy of an own goal as the home side secured a comfortable 5-0 win to join the two Chippenham sides on 12 points at the top of the table.

In the final game played on Thursday night last season’s champions Melksham Town picked up their first win of the season with a 1-0 win away at Pewsey Vale. The all-important goal was scored by Mason Phelps.

The game scheduled for Wednesday night between Radstock Town and FC Chippenham and the Thursday night game between Shrivenham and Calne Town were both postponed due to waterlogged pitches.

U18 Division Round-up 18 October 2019
Match Officials Slip Up
The weather and other factors contrived to see just one U18 game this week go the full distance. The scheduled match on Wednesday night between Calne Town and New College Swindon was postponed when the New College minibus scheduled to transport the side that evening broke down whilst transporting students on an afternoon college trip. This was not be the last of the strange causes of postponements this week. The two games on Thursday that did not start were the subject of more conventional postponements, with waterlogged pitches at both Downton and Melksham Town causing their games against Shrivenham and FC Chippenham respectively to be postponed.

This left two games that kicked-off on Thursday. The big match at the top was between league leaders Chippenham Town, who were looking to maintain their 100% record, and Royal Wootton Bassett Town who started the game level on points with the leaders having played one more game. On a pitch that drains well, despite the heavy rain earlier in the week, there was no issues with waterlogging at the Gerard Buxton Ground.  As expected it was a tight affair with chances at both ends in the first half but the game remained without a goal after the first 45 minutes. The second half started in a similar vein with both sides again creating chances. However, as the temperatures fell, as is normal in the UK around this time of year, dew formed on the playing surface causing a few issues for those with short studs, in particular the match officials.  With 65 minutes gone and after one of the assistant referees had slipped over for a second time the referee consulted the said official and then to the surprise of both sides and the spectators abandoned the game. Both sides who non-plussed with the decision as both felt the conditions were perfectly playable but the referee is the sole arbitrator of such matters and the game was abandoned. The game will now have to be replayed at a later date.

The Chippenham Town match report on this game can be found at:

The one game that did go the full duration was at the other end of the table where both home side Pewsey Vale and visitors Radstock Town were looking for that first points of the season. In an entertaining game both teams will have been happy to have got their seasons up and running as the sides shared six goals and the points. On target for Pewsey Vale were Ollie England, Harry Womersley and Will Garrett, the latter scoring from the penalty spot. For Radstock Town, George Rowe scored in the first half and there were two goals in the last fifteen minutes from Lewis Wells and Johan Selmer as the two sides moved level on points with Calne Town.

It is pleasing to report this week that the wet weather relented a bit allowing all but one of the scheduled five fixtures to go ahead in the Under 18 Division of the Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League.

The big match of the week was the Chippenham derby where the two sides in the division who went into the week with 100% records came head to head at Stanley Park. Both FC Chippenham and Chippenham Town went into the game still with the chance of emulating last season’s champions Melksham Town who won all of their league fixtures in taking the U18 title. After Thursday night’s encounter it is just FC Chippenham who now have the chance of matching Melksham’s record as they defeated their illustrious neighbours. Two goals to the good at the break, both sides scored one each in the second period to leave FC Chippenham 3-1 winners on the night. Harvey Flippance bagged his sixth goal of the season to remain joint top scorer in the division, Charlie Morgan and Jake Small were also on target with the other FC Chippenham goals, Will Fowler with the Chippenham Town goal. Having finished as runners-up last season, this latest win sent a message to the rest of the division that FC Chippenham mean to go one better this season.

Royal Wootton Bassett Town moved up above Chippenham Town in the table, joining FC Chippenham on 15 points with a win away at New College. It was a tight affair in the first half as the visitors led 2-1 at the break but they stepped it up second half to eventually run out 5-2 winners. There were two more goals for Oliver Crosby-Clarke for Royal Wootton Bassett Town, including a penalty, the two goals taking him also onto six for the season and joint leadership of the goal scoring table. Both Ben Evans and Michael Guilder scored for the visitors with shots from outside the box, Ned Ventham with the other Bassett goal. Sam Crame and Jack Hulbert, both scoring their first goals of the season, were on target for New College.

Last season’s champions Melksham Town are starting to find their form again after an indifferent start to the new season. Their game against Downton on Thursday night was played on the main pitch at the InfiLED Stadium and Melksham went in front of 15 minutes when Callum Howard scored following a corner. Melksham went close to extending their lead on a couple of occasions but were denied by some smart saves by the visiting keeper. Unfortunately, just after the half hour mark Melksham’s Josh Flynn suffered a serious injury, with a dislocated knee, which required a paramedic to be called and a delay in proceedings. When play resumed there were to be no more first half goals and Melksham led 1-0 at the break. The second half saw Downton step their game up and push for an equaliser, but they just couldn’t find the killer pass to open up the resolute Melksham defence. At the other end Melksham also created a number of chances but there was to be no further scoring as Melksham ran out 1-0 winners to make it two wins on the bounce. As a result of the win Melksham moved up above Downton into fifth spot in the table. It is also pleasing to report that Melksham manager Colby Cain has confirmed today that following an x-ray at the hospital their injured player Josh is feeling ok but wearing a splint and has an appointment next week to discuss recovery time, so hopefully it will not be long before he is back in action for Melksham.

The other game played on Thursday night was at Pewsey where the home side were looking to build on the previous week’s draw with Radstock Town, whilst visitors Shrivenham were looking to bounce back from their narrow defeat at the hands of New College in their last outing. In the night’s highest scoring game, Shrivenham secured all three points courtesy of a 5-3 win. On target for Shrivenham were Beyazit Durdu with two, Bradley Hirst with his sixth of season, joining Flippance and Crosby-Clarke at the top of the goal scoring chart, with Jack Macklin and Matthew Slevin netting the other two. The Pewsey goals were scored by Archie Tooth, Dylan Young and Harry Wormersley, the latter notching his third of the season.
The only game to fall victim to the weather was the scheduled game on Wednesday night between Radstock Town and Calne Town.

U18 Division Round-up 31 October 2019
FC Chippenham March On
Action in the Under 18 Division commenced on Wednesday evening when Radstock Town hosted New College Swindon. Whilst Radstock Town went into the game still in search of that first win of the season they had gone close in their four opening fixtures, drawing once and narrowly going down in the other three. Meanwhile, with visitors New College coming into the game on the back of two consecutive defeats Radstock were hopeful of finally getting off the mark. However, few would have predicted the final 7-1 score line ahead of the game but an impressive performance from Radstock blew New College away on the night. Mason Harrison led the way scoring four times, George Rowe bagged a brace and there was one for substitute Oliver Brook. Sam Crame replied for New College with his second goal of the season.

Two of the three scheduled games on Thursday went ahead with leaders FC Chippenham looking to maintain their 100% record against visitors Melksham Town. Last season it had been Melksham that had gone through their league fixtures winning them all and this season FC Chippenham appear in the mood to emulate that achievement as they made it six straight wins with a 3-0 victory. Melksham made them work hard for the points though and Melksham remained well in the game after the first hour of the match thanks to some resolute defending to keep their opponents out. In the end though the player who made the difference was FC Chippenham’s Harvey Flippance, as he fired in a hat-trick taking him to nine for the season and the outright top scorer in the division. FC Chippenham having now beaten all of their four nearest rivals are going to take some stopping this season as they look to go one better than last season’s runner-up spot.

The other game at the top end of the table saw Chippenham Town on their travels for the sixth consecutive match when they travelled to Shrivenham to take on the young royals. In a tight first half of limited chances the deadlock was finally broken on the stroke of half time when Chippenham captain Fred Porter was fouled in the box and Chippenham were awarded a penalty. Porter himself took the spot kick, slotting the ball low into the bottom left hand corner of the net to make it 1-0. Shrivenham got themselves back into the game twelve minutes after the restart through Zac Skinner when the ball rebounded to him in the box and he fired in to make it 1-1. Louis Wilkins then fired the visitors back in front five minutes later when he seized on a poorly hit back pass to score Chippenham’s second of the game. The lead did not last long though as two minutes later Brad Hirst equalised for Shrivenham with his seventh goal of the season. The rush of goals continued as a minute later Shrivenham went in front for the first time in the game, Zac Skinner chipping over the Chippenham keeper for his second of the game to make it 3-2 to the home side. Just as it looked like Chippenham would fall to consecutive defeats they were awarded a second penalty in the last minute of the game. Luca Robinson made no mistake from the spot to ensure that the points were shared, 3-3 the final score.

The scheduled game at the Gerard Buxton Ground between Royal Wootton Bassett Town and Pewsey Vale was postponed by the visitors.

Goals Galore For Away Sides
There were three games this week in the Under 18 Division of the Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League and they all turned out to be one-sided affairs for the away side in each game. On Wednesday night Radstock Town travelled to Calne Town in their best form of the season. After opening with three defeats they had picked up four points out of the six available in their previous two games and that form certainly continued Wednesday night at Calne as they smashed twelve unanswered goals past their opponents. Mason Harrison led the way with a hat-trick as he took his tally for the season to eight,  both Joshua Singtothong and Johan Selmer bagged a brace and there was one goal from each of Max Pollock, Alfie Williams, Oliver Brook, Steven Johnson and Lucca North. The win lifted Radstock a couple of places in the table to sixth spot. For Calne, who suffered their biggest defeat of the season, they will hope that they can put this defeat behind them quickly when they entertain Pewsey Vale at Bremhill View next week in the battle of the two sides who have yet to win this season.

Pewsey also suffered a heavy defeat this week at the hands of New College, who bounced back from three consecutive defeats to record their biggest win of the season. Sam Crame continued his recent scoring form, netting for the third consecutive game as he hit two goals for New College. There were further goals from Tom Rejek, Alex Hemmings, Rhys Evans, Jack Hulbert, Max Spackman and Dean Haddrell as New College ran out 8-1 winners on the night. Matthew Milne with the Pewsey Vale goal. New College were another side to climb two places in the table on the back of their win as they moved up to fifth place in the table. For Pewsey Vale they will look to pick themselves up next week with that game against Calne Town.

The last time Chippenham Town were in the Under 18 Division their main rivals for the title were Melksham Town who were also last season’s champions. This season Melksham are in a bit of a re-build phase and on Thursday night found Chippenham, who have secured quite a lot of the young talent in the county in their academy, had a little too much quality on display. Chippenham went ahead on eleven minutes with a little help from the home side as Harry Purnell’s cross following a corner took a deflection off a Melksham defender to put the visitors in front. Chippenham pushed for a second and created a number of chances but thanks to stoic defending and a couple of excellent saves from the Melksham keeper kept it to just one until two minutes from the break when Jack Baker fired in after being set up by Fabian Stanislas to make it 2-0 to Chippenham. The second period continued with Chippenham very much on top and they had a goal disallowed for offside on 51 minutes. They were not to be denied for long though as Charlie McCrae headed in Fabian Stanislas’ cross to make it 3-0 to the visitors. Chippenham continued to press forward, but the goals dried up until a three-minute spell as the game moved into the closing 15 minutes. First Charlie McCrae scored a second headed goal from a cross from the right before Fred Culley side-footed in two minutes later to make it 5-0. A minute later McCrae netted again for a hat-trick on the night. Unfortunately for Melksham their keeper was injured in trying to prevent the goal and had to be substituted, the second time this has happened this season. The win saw Chippenham move up to second spot in the table, two points behind leaders FC Chippenham but having played a game more.

Downton Rise to the Occasion
Just the one Under 18 fixture survived this week and Downton were rewarded for getting their game played with their best result since joining the Under 18 Division with an impressive 1-0 win over the Chippenham Town side based out of their strong academy.

Chippenham went into the game knowing that a win would take them top of the table, but they came up against a disciplined and well drilled Downton outfit on the night. The only goal of the game came in the first half when Edward Stagg broke the deadlock in the 37th minute. Chippenham pushed hard for the equaliser, but the whole Downton team rose to the occasion and kept the normally prolific Chippenham strike force at bay. The last time that Chippenham, who are the division’s leading scorers, had drawn a blank in an Under 18 Division fixture in the Wiltshire Senior League was back in August 2014, when they lost their first ever fixture in the league against Pewsey Vale. Despite the latest defeat Chippenham remain amongst the favourites to challenge their near neighbours FC Chippenham for the title, especially as they have so far played all eight of their fixtures to date away from home. However, credit to Downton for pulling off the clean sheet against the league’s leading scorers and their win, a victory that saw them climb four places in the table into fifth spot.
All the other scheduled games this week were postponed.

Wilts FA Youth Cup 3rd Round Draw
The draw for the Third Round of the Wiltshire County FA Youth Cup was made today and two of the four remaining sides from the Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League U18 Division will meet each other when Royal Wootton Bassett Town host Chippenham Town in a repeat of last season's final.  That final saw Chippenham win on penalties after neither side could find the net after 120 minutes of football. The two sides were again drawing 0-0 when their recent league encounter was abandoned just after the hour mark, so another close game can be expected when the sides meet again in the county cup.

Current league leaders FC Chippenham will travel to take on Salisbury FC Under 17 from the Hampshire County Youth League whilst New College Swindon will be home to North Wilts Youth League side Castle Combe Colts.

The games are scheduled to take place on Sunday 8th December 2019. The full draw is as follows:

Wins for Shrivenham, Radstock & Pewsey Vale
Picture courtesy of Mike Wray from Shrivenham's 4-2 win over Wootton Bassett
After a tough week for the club, which has seen them pull their Senior side out of the Sydenhams Wessex League, there was something to celebrate at Pewsey Vale last night as their Under 18 team picked up their first win of the season against a Downton side who only seven days ago had beaten Chippenham Town in the U18 Division. It had started well for visitors Downton, who looked like they would carry on from where they left off the previous week, with Dylan Davis scoring an early goal and it remained 1-0 to Downton at the break. However, a storming second half from the young Pewsey side saw them score three unanswered goals to take the three points for the first time this season. On target for Pewsey were Finley Pollock and Edward Golder, with their first goals of the season, and Harry Womersley who netted for the fourth time this season in their 3-1 win.

At the top end of the table FC Chippenham Youth travelled to Radstock Town looking to maintain their 100% record and with the possibility of emulating Melksham Town’s achievement of going the whole season without dropping a point. That possibility is now over as they left the Southfield Recreation Ground empty handed as Radstock secured their best result of the season with a fine 2-1 win on the back of an excellent second half performance. The winner came very late, Sonny Burbidge firing in a free kick from near the halfway line. This after George Rowe had scored from the penalty spot to equalise after FC Chippenham had gone in front courtesy of an own goal. For once the normally prolific FC Chippenham strike force were kept quiet as Radstock secured three points which lifted them into fifth place in the table.

With FC Chippenham losing, Royal Wootton Bassett Town could have gone level on points with the leaders at the top of the table, but they also had an off night going down 4-2 to a Shrivenham side who were much the better side on the night and moved to within two points of their opponents. On target for Royal Wootton Bassett Town were Osa Ilvobe and Jed Phillips, with goals from Luke Ash, Tyger Hall, Dylan Boulton and a fourth of the season for Kieron Sutton securing the points for an in-form Shrivenham side who are now unbeaten in three. Based on the results this week the title race this season looks to be gearing up to be an exciting one.

The game between Melksham Town and Calne Town at the InfiLED was postponed by the visitors.

Hopefully the weather will relent next week allowing the U18 games to get the go ahead.

Royal Wootton Bassett Defeat Chippenham Town
Two games were played in the Under 18 Division this week with the big game at the top end of the table taking place at the Gerard Buxton Sports Ground where Chippenham Town were Royal Wootton Bassett Town’s visitors. When the two sides had met at the same venue a few weeks back the game had been abandoned by the match official for being too slippery on the hour mark with the game neatly poised at 0-0. In the re-arranged game on Thursday night, an added twist was that the two sides are scheduled to meet again this coming Sunday in the Wiltshire Youth Cup, the final of which the two sides had contested last season. It was the home side who scored an early goal to settle any nerves, Ben Chin heading in powerfully from a corner to give Royal Wootton Bassett Town the lead on six minutes. They extended their lead ten minutes later when Tom Pitt fired in a free kick to make it 2-0 to Royal Wootton Bassett. Chippenham nearly replied almost immediately, Charlie McCrae seeing his initial shot saved by the Bassett keeper and then his follow up cleared by a defender on the line. Chippenham were pushing hard to get back into the game and moments later Dylan Jones then fired a shot against the Bassett post. In a sustained period of Chippenham pressure Jackson Brown then saw his header come back off the crossbar and when the ball was then put in the net the goal was ruled out for offside.  It remained 2-0 to the home side at the break.

Chippenham continued to push to get themselves back in the game and went close to scoring five minutes after the restart, Dylan Jones seeing his shot blocked and Charlie McCrae firing the rebound just wide of the post. It wasn’t one way traffic though as both sides continued to create chances and it was the home side who extended their lead just before the hour mark, Ollie Crosby Clarke firing in a free kick for his seventh of the season to make it 3-0. Chippenham continued to try and get a foothold in the game and were rewarded when Dan Warre, who had come through the youth section at Royal Wootton Bassett Town and been part of their Under 16 County Cup winning squad, scored against his former team mates to make it 3-1. With the game entering the closing minutes it looked like the home side had done their job to take the points but a Fred Porter goal for Chippenham five minutes from time, firing into the bottom right corner of the net, meant a few anxious closing minutes for the home side. With a minute to go Warre went close to getting his second of the game against his former team mates when his from just inside the box went narrowly wide of the post but there was to be no more goals as Royal Wootton Bassett Town held out to secure a vital 3-2 at the top of the table. The win lifted Royal Wootton Bassett Town above Chippenham Town in the table, level on points with FC Chippenham Youth at the top, as well as sending a message ahead of that County Youth Cup showdown on Sunday.

In the other game played on Thursday night Melksham Town climbed a couple of places in the league table to go level on points with Radstock Town in fifth spot courtesy of a 3-0 home win over Pewsey Vale. Pewsey have improved of late and went into the game on the back of their first win of the season in their previous outing. They certainly made it very difficult for Melksham to get a hold on the game in the first half and the sides turned around goal less at the interval. Second half saw Melksham up their game and start to take control and they were rewarded with goals from Billy Hawkins and Isaac Wain to go 2-0 in front. Then, in the final minute, the ball was played to Melksham substitute Ollie Clarke who controlled it with his first touch of the game and then fired the ball into the net with his second touch to complete a 3-0 win for the home side.

Wilts FA Youth Cup Third Round
The meeting between last season’s two finalists Chippenham Town and Royal Wootton Bassett Town turned out to be something of a one-sided affair on Sunday. A first half hat-trick from Will Fowler plus one for Landon Golding against his former team gave Chippenham a comfortable 4-0 lead at the break. Fowler notched his fourth of the game after the break with Jack Baker scoring twice as Chippenham completed an impressive 7-1 win over the side who had narrowly beaten them in midweek in the Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League U18 Division. Oliver Crosby-Clarke with the consolation goal for Royal Wootton Bassett Town. Chippenham will no doubt be the side that most teams will want to avoid in the next round as they look to defend the cup they won last season.

The other two sides from the Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League both made it safely through to the last eight. Two goals from Max Spackman and one from Josh Lewis ensured New College made it through to the next round in a 3-1 over North Wilts Youth League side Castle Combe Colts. FC Chippenham Youth are the third side through after a comfortable win away at Salisbury U17’s. There were hat-tricks for both Harvey Flippance and Joshua Bolwell, Joshua Archer bagged a brace and a goal from Ruben Bell completed the scoring in the 9-0 win.

Wins for Radstock, Melksham & Shrivenham
With the big Chippenham derby game on Monday night postponed due to a frozen pitch, it meant that on Thursday night Royal Wootton Bassett Town could take over at the top of the Under 18 Division table with a point against Melksham Town. Royal Wootton Bassett had won the reverse fixture at Melksham 4-2 on a wet and windy night at the beginning of October but a lack lustre performance on Thursday night saw them fail to take the opportunity to head the table. A goal from Ben Evans for Royal Wootton Bassett and an equaliser for Melksham from Tommy Smith saw the game level at 1-1 as it moved into its final minutes. Just as it seemed like Royal Wootton Bassett Town would have the point they needed, a second goal from Tommy Smith in the 89th minute secured an excellent win for Colby Cain’s improving Melksham Town side and denied the home side that top spot. Both sides remained where they were in the table but Melksham in sixth spot on 13 points closed the gap to Chippenham Town and Shrivenham in third spot to just three points in what is turning out to be quite an open Under 18 Division this season.

Another improving side moving on to 13 points on the night were Radstock Town. Radstock went behind to a Pewsey Vale goal scored by Fraser Taylor against the run of play but after that dominated the match scoring four goals but also hitting the frame of the goal on six occasions as they ran out 4-1 winners on the night. On target for Radstock in their win were George Rowe, Joshua Singtothong, Alfie Williams and Max Pollock. After starting the season with three straight defeats, Radstock then drew their fourth game before starting a winning run that has now stretched to four consecutive games.

Calne Town have strengthened their side over the Christmas break but still found an in-form Shrivenham side too strong for them as Tyger Hall and Bradley Hirst both bagged a brace, with Beyazit Durdu and Kieran Sutton also on target in a 6-2 win. The win extended Shrivenham’s unbeaten run to four games as they moved level on points with Chippenham Town in third place. On target for the young Calne Town side were Harrison Jordan and Jude Rides.
After the dust had settled on Thursday night’s action, just five points separate the top six sides in what is looking to be the most competitive Under 18 Division since the league took over the competition from the Wiltshire FA.

Chippenham  Town & New College into Semi-Final
There will be two representatives from the Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League Under 18 Division in the semi-finals of the Wiltshire County Youth Cup. Holders Chippenham Town cruised into the last four with an emphatic 11-0 home win over Ashton Keynes. There were hat-tricks for Sahr Nanoh and Will Fowler, Jack Baker bagged a brace and further goals from Freddie Porter, Dan Boswell and Luca Robinson completed the scoring for Chippenham.

In the match between two representatives from the league, it is New College Swindon who will continue to fly the flag for the Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League as they made it through to the next round as a result of a narrow 2-1 win over the Under 18 Division league leaders FC Chippenham. On target for New College were Max Spackman and Aaron Alexander.

Elsewhere Corsham Town from the Western Counties Floodlit League made it through to the semi-final with a 3-0 home win over Swindon based Croft Juniors, all three goals coming in the second half. Highworth Town from the North Wilts League are the final semi-finalist following a 5-0 away win over Bromham. The full quarter final results are shown below:

Shrivenham Move Second in Table
Shrivenham were 2-0 home winners over Melksham Town to move 2nd in the table (picture courtesy of Mike Wray).
The two games in the Under 18 Division that went ahead this week both featured sides at the top end of the table. Shrivenham hit form at the end of the last calendar year and that form has continued into the new year. Going into their match with Melksham Town on Thursday night they were unbeaten in four, the only points that they had dropped in that run were in a 3-3 draw with Chippenham Town. Visitors Melksham Town were also in good form having won their previous two games. It was to be Shrivenham who maintained their winning run as goals in each half from Tyger Hall and Alfie Griggs completed a 2-0 victory over their visitors. The win saw them above both Chippenham Town and Royal Wootton Bassett Town into second spot in the table.

Shrivenham would have gone top but for the fact that FC Chippenham were also winners on the night. Having lost in the Wiltshire FA’s County Youth Cup at the weekend to New College Swindon, they quickly avenged that defeat with a hard fought 3-0 away win at New College on Thursday night to retain top spot in the Under 18 Division table with their seventh win in eight league games. Jack Humphreys bagged a brace, taking him onto three for the season, and there was a first of the season for Ralf Stone.

The other two scheduled games at Calne Town and Royal Wootton Bassett Town were both postponed.
U18 Division Round-up 7 February 2020
Wins for the Top Three
Shrivenham went top of the Under 18 Division on Wednesday night after a 7-1 away win over Calne Town. Tyger Hall helped himself to a hat-trick, Jack Lewis bagged a brace and the other goals came courtesy of Matt Slevin and Kieron Sutton. Jordan Newton replied for Calne. That is now four straight wins for Shrivenham who, along with Royal Wootton Bassett Town, are looking likely to be FC Chippenham’s main rivals for the title.

Shrivenham’s stay at the top only lasted 24 hours as FC Chippenham returned to the summit the following night after a hard fought 3-2 win away at Melksham Town. Jake Small, Sebastian Soudo and Josh Archer with the goals for FC Chippenham, Ben Hawkins and Josh Shepherd for an improving Melksham side who pushed FC Chippenham all the way.

The same night third placed Royal Wootton Bassett Town consolidated their position with a comprehensive win over visitors Pewsey Vale. Oliver Crosby-Clarke led the way firing a hat-trick, including two from the penalty spot, to take over as the leading scorer in the Division. Both Ned Ventham and Ben Evans scored twice, the remaining five goals being shared around the side as Taida Tendayi, Ben Patey, Nathaniel Bell, Sam Singha and Kester Dadzie all found the back of the net. Pewsey’s consolation goal was scored by Ben Jeal.

FC Chippenham in Pole Position
Shrivenham v FC Chippenham in the big U18 Division clash (picture courtesy of Mike Wray)
One game was played in the Under 18 Division this week and it was an important match in the race for the title involving the top two sides in the table, Shrivenham and FC Chippenham. When the two sides had met at Chippenham earlier in the season Chippenham had won convincingly by four goals to nil but Shrivenham have improved as the season has progressed and came into the match on the back of five straight wins. It was a tight affair in the first half with neither side being able to find the net as the sides turned around with the score still nil-nil. However, it was a different story after the break as FC Chippenham stepped up a gear and once again put four goals past Shrivenham, the home side replying with just the one through a Jack Lewis free-kick. On target for FC Chippenham were Harvey Flippance, who took his total goals in the U18 Division into double figures as a result, Ruben Bell, Rafferty Stone and Jack Humphreys. The impressive away win against their nearest rivals took FC Chippenham back above Shrivenham to the top of the table. FC Chippenham are clearly now in the driving seat in the title race but they still have some tough looking fixtures against the likes of Chippenham Town, Radstock Town and Royal Wootton Bassett Town so the title race is far from over but the win last night certainly means they are in pole position as they look to go one better than last season’s runners-up position.

Chippenham Town Through to County Cup Final
Landon Golding who scored the goal for Chippenham Town that sent their County Cup tie into extra time (picture courtesy of Steve Green)
All games in the Under 18 Division were postponed this week due to the weather.

In the Under 18 County Youth Cup this weekend, Chippenham Town were involved in a bizarre semi-final encounter with Highworth Town. With Highworth Town leading 1-0 and the game deep into injury time Landon Golding headed in an equaliser from a Joe Costentino free kick to send the match into extra time. The equalising goal coming after both sides had a player sent off fifteen minutes from time. Having snatched that last grasp equaliser Chippenham totally dominated extra time as a clearly demoralised Highworth Town, having had victory snatched from their grasp, conceded four times in the first period of added time. Will and Ash Fowler both scored along with Devante Halladey and Dan Warre, the latter scoring from the penalty after he had been brought down. It continued to be one-way traffic in the second period of extra time as Halladey completed his hat-trick with two further goals, Ash Fowler notched a second and their were further goals for Fred Porter and Luca Robinson to complete a remarkable 10-1 score line. Defending cup holders Chippenham will now meet either New College Swindon from the Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League Under 18 Division or Corsham Town in the final.

Radstock Town Make it 5 Straight Wins
The one game in the Under 18 Division this week saw Radstock Town make it five straight wins with a narrow 3-2 victory over visiting Melksham Town. Three first half goals did the damage for Radstock. George Rowe opened the scoring in the eighth minute with his sixth of the season before Luca North added a second with just over twenty minutes gone. Billy Hawkins pulled one back for Melksham shortly after, but Cory Maggs restored Radstock’s two goal advantage on the half hour mark. Josh Shepherd pulled one back for Melksham midway through the second half but despite Melksham having chances in the closing stages that was to be the end of the scoring as Radstock moved level on points with Chippenham Town as a result of the win.

The second semi-final in the Wiltshire County Youth Cup between New College Swindon and Corsham Town is scheduled to go ahead this coming Sunday, with the winner set to meet Chippenham Town in the final.
