Club Notes
A club with the name West Swindon were established in the 1890’s and played in the Swindon & District League, they also operated a second side in Division 2 of the District League during this period. See separate entry for more details of the West Swindon club. That early second team, like their first team, were a successful and it appears they were winners of Division 2 of the Swindon & District League in 1896-97, although it has not been possible to trace the final league table for that season.

West Swindon Reserves were members of the Swindon & District League at the end of the 1960’s when the first team of the club moved up to play in the old Wiltshire League. They continued to be members of the Swindon & District League during the 1970’s and 1980’s, generally spending their time either in the Premier Division or Division 1 of the District league.

When West Swindon’s first team moved up to Senior status for Season 1991-92, playing in Division 2 of the Wiltshire Football League, they moved their reserve side up into the Wiltshire Football League. The team’s first season saw them finish in 9th place in Division 4 having started playing their games at Greendown School before moving to Penhill Recreation Ground part-way through the season.

The following season was set to see the first team again in Division 2 and the Reserves in Division 4 but the pitch issues that seemed to haunt the club reared their ugly head once again and the first team were forced to withdraw from Senior football leaving the Reserves to carry on in Division 4. With a number of players remaining from the first team the club had a good season finishing third in the table behind Dorcan Reserves and Plessey Semics Reserves which meant that the following season the club’s first team would start back in Division 3 for Season 1993-94 as the club ran just one side in the Wiltshire Football League meaning an official reserve side ran for just two seasons in the league playing 50 games in total.
