Managers Pre-Season Predictions
Division One Managers Come Out On Top

As part of the Season preview for the Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League the managers of the teams in both the Premier Division and Division 1 were asked to predict where they thought teams would finish at the end of the season. Predictions were received from 20 of the 23 team managers. In the Premier Division, given the squads assembled by Trowbridge Town and Devizes Town, and pre-season results, most of the managers predicted those two sides to dominate and it proved to be the case as they led the table from start to finish.

With the season now over it is time to see which of the managers was most accurate with their predicted finishes for the 16 teams in the Premier Division and the seven that started Division One. Just a reminder what the point scoring system that was as notified at the mid-point of the season. Points were awarded as follows:

  • League position correctly predicted (15 points)
  • Team one place either side of predicted position (10 points)
  • Team two places either side of predicted position (5 points)
  • Team more than two places from predicted position (minus points calculated by taking the difference between the predicted position and actual position (maximum negative points for each team would be -15)).

With the two league tables now finalised the managers of the top two teams in Division One proved to be most accurate with their predictions. The overall best score went to Larkhall Athletic Development manager James Riccio, with Kingsdown Lions manager Adie Wilkinson just behind him. Adie was also the best at predicting the finishing positions in the Premier Division, whilst James came out on top with regard to Division One. The Premier Division manager with the best score was Malmesbury Victoria Development's Troy Prentice who came third overall. Just ten of the 20 managers who made those predictions at the start of the season remained in the hot seat come the season end, including all of the top three.

As well as the prestige and honour of of being the most accurate with his predictions, James also wins a couple of training balls for his team and a case of beer.
